Dudley Bin Collection 2026: Quick Answer
Dudley’s new household waste service started on 6 April 2026. For most standard houses, black rubbish and blue-bin/blue-bag recycling are collected on alternate fortnightly weeks.
Food waste is collected every week. Normal household collection hours are 6am–2pm, so put the correct containers out by 6am.

The April 2026 Dudley Bin Changes You Need to Know
Any Dudley guide built around the old green recycling bag and black-box system is now misleading for most standard houses.
1. New blue bin
A 240-litre blue wheelie bin now handles Dudley’s main mixed container recycling.
2. Paper stays separate
The existing blue bag remains the paper-and-card container.
3. Weekly food waste
Separate food collection now runs every week for standard households on the new service.
What happened to the black recycling box and green bag?
For standard properties switched to the new blue-bin system, the old black box and green recycling bag are no longer the normal mixed-recycling containers.
Dudley says residents can repurpose the black box. The old green recycling bag can still be retained for extra paper and cardboard.
Collection pattern
Week A: black general-waste bin + weekly food caddy.
Week B: blue recycling bin + blue paper bag + weekly food caddy.
A subscribed garden bin follows its own fortnightly schedule.
Your weekday may also have changed in April 2026. Do not rely on a pre-April collection calendar even if you understand the new alternating pattern.

Normal collection hours are Monday to Friday, 6am–2pm.
Put the correct bins, bag and food caddy out by 6am.
Do not put bins out too early
Dudley says household bins should not normally be placed out before 7:30pm on the evening before collection.
Where should containers go?
The normal Council instruction is to place waste at the back of the pavement / normal presentation point so crews can access it without creating an unnecessary obstruction.
After emptying
Take bins and containers back in as soon as reasonably possible.
Dudley can issue a written notice where containers are repeatedly presented too early. Continued non-compliance can escalate to enforcement.
Extreme heat or bad weather
Temporary Council notices can override the normal 6am start. If Dudley announces an earlier round for worker safety, follow that live notice instead of this standard rule.
Dudley Black Bin: Fortnightly Non-Recyclable Rubbish
The existing black wheelie bin is now normally emptied every other week.

Dudley Blue Bin: The New 240-Litre Mixed-Recycling Bin
The new standard blue recycling bin is 240 litres.

Put everything in loose
Do not put recycling into plastic bags inside the blue bin. Dudley says plastic bags contaminate this recycling stream and can result in the bin not being taken.

No. Dudley deliberately keeps paper and cardboard separate in the blue bag.
Toothpaste and cosmetic squeeze tubes
Current Dudley guidance says laminated squeeze tubes such as toothpaste, cream and cosmetic tubes are not accepted through normal kerbside recycling.
Put them into general waste unless you have a specialist retailer recycling route.
Can I have a smaller blue bin?
Dudley’s current service does not offer a smaller version of the standard blue recycling wheelie bin.
Can I decline it?
If the Council has assessed the property as suitable for the wheeled-bin service, the assigned collection system should be used rather than choosing one of the older recycling-container systems.

Dudley Flats, Communal Bins and HMOs
Do not apply the standard house-based blue-bin system automatically to a flat using communal bins.
Existing shared-bin properties
Dudley says communal/shared-bin arrangements continue as they are for now.
Each flatted development is being considered for an appropriate future recycling arrangement, and residents should be contacted before a change takes effect.
Food waste at flats
Where introduced, a block may use communal food-waste capacity instead of each flat having a standard individual 23-litre kerbside container.
Houses in Multiple Occupation
Where an HMO shares a kitchen or bathroom, the current guidance normally provides:
- One recycling bin per dwelling; and
- One set of food caddies per dwelling.
The landlord is responsible for requesting extra containers where additional provision is required.
Dudley Missed Bin: The 4pm Deadline Explained
Standard rubbish, recycling and food-waste misses can be reported from 4pm on collection day until 4pm on the next working day.
Why wait until 4pm?
Although normal published rounds run to 2pm, Dudley’s online missed-collection reporting window begins at 4pm.
Assisted collection missed?
Missed assisted general-waste, recycling or food-waste collections can be reported from 4pm on collection day until 4pm two working days later.
Garden waste missed?
A qualifying subscribed garden-waste miss should be reported after 4pm on collection day or on the following working day.
Dudley says it aims to collect a valid reported garden miss within seven working days.

Dudley’s garden-service terms specifically say there is no return collection for bins that cannot be emptied because waste is compacted, frozen, too heavy or contaminated.

The move to fortnightly black-bin collection can be difficult for households producing significant nappy waste.
Qualifying households can receive a roll of extra refuse sacks for each eligible child.

- A child older than 30 months with SEND and/or a medical condition who continues to use nappies.

A commercial-type vehicle or car towing a trailer needs Dudley’s permit. The free scheme allows up to 12 visits in a 12-month period, subject to its conditions.
