The council accepts a partial or full road name. “High” can return High Street and other matching roads.

Check the spelling carefully. Do not select another similarly named street just because it appears first.
Click “Find out which bin will be collected when”
This is the important step. It connects the street to the correct collection pattern.
Save three pieces of information
Write down bin colour + date + collection pattern/calendar. A note such as “Blue — Friday 4 September” is more useful than saving only “Friday”.

What to do before the collection truck arrives
Compare it with the street calendar rather than putting both bins out.
Do not leave it deep inside the garden unless you have an agreed assisted collection.
This helps crews position the container safely for lifting.
Do not hide it behind parked cars or place it where the crew cannot safely see it.
Place the container without creating an obstruction for pedestrians.
Overfilled bins can be rejected.
Do not compact material so tightly that it remains in the bin when lifted.
After collection: Coventry asks residents to return bins from the highway to the property as soon as possible, with a maximum of 24 hours.
Best household routine: check calendar in evening → present bin before bed → final visibility check before 7am.

Never put in the blue recycling bin: plastic bags/film, wallpaper, lightbulbs, broken glass, textiles, polystyrene, Pyrex, nappies, black bags, black plastic or food waste.
Confusing object? Use Coventry’s A–Z rather than guessing. Items such as batteries, paint, rubble, electricals, gas cylinders and NOS canisters need specific routes.
Rule of thumb: if an item is dangerous, electrical, construction-related or pressurised, do not hide it in a normal wheelie bin.
Your new Coventry food bin has arrived — what do you do next?
Before the first collection
- Open the new food-waste container.
- Keep the council information sheet inside until you note the collection day.
- Write your house number on the container or add a sticker.
- Choose whether to use a compostable liner, newspaper or paper bag.
- Put the collection day in your household calendar.
From launch week
- Add cooked and uncooked food only.
- Keep packaging, liquids and oil out.
- Push the handle down over the front to lock the bin.
- Place it where you normally present your other bins.
- Have it ready by 7am every week.
Do I need a liner?
No. A liner is optional. If you use one, Coventry says it should be compostable. Newspaper or a paper bag can also be used.
Can mouldy food go in?
Yes. Remove the packaging first.
What about meat and bones?
Raw and cooked meat, fish and bones are accepted.
What stays out?
Packaging, liquids, oils/liquid fat, non-food items, flowers, garden waste and pet waste.
Smell control: keep the lid closed and locked. Coventry also recommends a quick rinse every few weeks.
Brown-bin change: once the separate weekly food service starts, food waste should no longer be placed in the brown garden-waste bin.
Flats: put food into the kitchen caddy → empty it into your communal food-waste bin as often as required → the communal bin is emptied weekly.
Bin still full? Do not report it until you know why
Confirm against the street calendar.
If not, it may have been presented after the vehicle passed.
Check parked cars and pedestrian obstructions.
The tag normally tells you why the crew did not empty it.
Contamination can stop the whole bin being collected.
Reduce the load before the next scheduled collection.
Material can remain after the bin is lifted if it is heavily compacted or frozen.

Confirm that the container really was scheduled.
Look for the physical reason
Tag, open lid, contamination, weight, visibility and jammed waste are the key checks.
If everything was correct, wait until 5pm
Crews can still be completing the round earlier in the day.

Do not leave reporting too late
Coventry’s service standard asks residents to report missed collections promptly, within its current 48-hour reporting standard.
Tagged bin? If the crew rejected it because it was too heavy or contained the wrong items, Coventry says it will normally not return before your next scheduled collection. Remove the problem and use the tip for genuine excess waste if needed.
Fast decision: no tag + correct contents + out by 7am + still full after 5pm = use the missed-bin report.

Wait for the permit
Coventry says the sticker normally arrives within 5–10 working days.
Stick it in the correct place
Put the permit on the back of the bin under the handles where the crew can clearly see it.
Do not expect collection before the sticker is displayed
The council checks both its subscribed-property records and the physical permit on the bin.
Check your fortnightly schedule
The brown garden bin is normally collected every two weeks, with the usual Christmas pause.
Same annual price even if you join part-way through the service year.
Coventry currently states there are no concessions for the garden-waste subscription.
Every brown bin you want emptied needs its own subscription permit.
The bin must be presented outside the property number used for the subscription.
Too much garden waste? Do not place extra bags beside the brown bin. Keep it for the next collection, compost it or book the tip.
Missed subscribed garden bin: report it promptly. Coventry’s terms use a 48-hour reporting window; its permit FAQ also tells residents to report within two working days.
Permit checklist: paid → sticker received → sticker under handles → correct date → correct garden contents → bin out by 7am.
Which Coventry bin request should you make?

Request a repair or replacement. Current council guidance warns that delivery of a new blue bin can take 8–10 weeks.

Needs eligibility check
Normally considered for six or more residents, children in nappies or qualifying medical-waste needs.
Extra green-bin approval: Coventry expects the household to be making reasonable efforts to recycle and compost. Approved additional green bins are small 140-litre bins.
Waiting for a blue replacement? Coventry’s current page tells residents to use the green rubbish bin for recycling while waiting. This is a temporary council instruction for this specific replacement situation, not the normal recycling rule.
Use the right form: damaged/stolen = repair or replacement; not enough capacity = additional-bin assessment.

Builders’ rubble, asbestos, gas cylinders, garden waste, trampolines, tyres, fence panels and fitted bathroom/kitchen materials are excluded.

The day depends on your Coventry ward. Collections run on weekdays between 8am and 5pm.
Put items at the front at ground level
Staff must be able to reach them without entering the house or garden.

Do not drive to Coventry tip until these four things are ready
No pre-booking means no entry.

Do not put these problem items into the normal bins
Nitrous oxide / NOS canister
Never put it in the recycling or residual rubbish bin. Coventry directs these canisters to the Household Recycling and Disposal Centre.
Paint / chemicals / asbestos
Use the specialist council disposal guidance. These are not ordinary bulky-waste items.
Electrical item
Check the A–Z, tip or bulky route depending on the size and type.
Tyres / building rubble
Do not place them in a wheelie bin. The tip has separate material rules and quantity limits.
Safety rule: pressurised, hazardous, electrical or construction waste should always be checked in the A–Z before disposal.
