How to Check Your Wokingham Bin Collection Day

Wokingham’s live finder is address-based. That matters because some properties use a standard black wheelie bin, some use council blue rubbish sacks, some have communal containers, and garden-waste dates only apply where the paid service is active.

1. Open the council’s collection-day finder.
   Start with the live service instead of calculating the date from a neighbouring street.
2. Enter your postcode.
   Select the exact residential property receiving the collection.
3. Read rubbish and recycling separately.
   Most homes alternate black-bin and green-bag weeks, but the address result is the final check.
4. Remember food waste is weekly.
   Food waste is collected every week on the normal collection day.
5. Recheck after service changes or holidays.
   Do not keep using an old recurring calendar if the council has changed the route.

Wokingham Waste Collection Changes From 1 June 2026

Wokingham Borough Council began a new waste collection contract with Biffa on 1 June 2026. Route changes meant some residents received a new collection day, although the majority of households were not affected.

Food waste remained weekly. Some garden-waste collection days also changed, and council garden-waste sack collections introduced an advance-booking requirement.

Wokingham Black Bin: What It Is For

Most properties receive a 180-litre black wheeled bin for non-recyclable household rubbish. It is normally emptied fortnightly.

Wokingham Green Recycling Bags: What Goes In Them?

Wokingham uses green sealable waterproof bags for normal kerbside recycling. The bags are normally collected fortnightly on the alternate week to the black rubbish bin.

There is no normal numerical limit on how many correctly filled green bags you can present, but each bag should be closed so paper and card remain dry.

Large cardboard

Cut down or fold cardboard so it fits inside a closed green recycling bag. Wokingham says loose cardboard left beside the recycling bags is not collected through the normal kerbside round.

Glass in 2026

Glass bottles and jars do not currently belong in the green bags. Use a suitable bottle bank or a re3 household recycling centre. Wokingham says it is planning kerbside glass changes for 2027.

Replacement and additional recycling bags are available free from council collection hubs around the borough. Check availability before making a special trip because local stock can vary.

Wokingham Food Waste Is Collected Every Week

Food waste runs weekly even though normal rubbish and recycling alternate fortnightly. Houses normally use a small indoor kitchen caddy and a larger lockable black outdoor food-waste container.

Flats with communal waste arrangements can use larger red food-waste bins in the shared bin store.

1. Collect scraps in the indoor caddy.
   Use the caddy for everyday food waste instead of putting food into the black general-waste bin.
2. Transfer it to the outdoor food bin.
   Packaging should be removed before the food goes into the collection container.
3. Present it every week.
   Have the outdoor container ready by 6:30am on the normal collection day.

Some Wokingham Homes Use Blue Rubbish Bags Instead of a Black Bin

Blue rubbish sacks are a special arrangement for properties that cannot store a 180-litre black wheelie bin or where the normal refuse vehicle cannot access the road. They are not Wokingham’s normal recycling bag.

If the annual supply is not enough, Wokingham currently sells rolls of 10 additional blue bags for £20, with a maximum of two additional purchases per year.

Wokingham Missed Bin: Report It Before the Deadline

Wokingham uses a short missed-collection reporting window. If your waste was genuinely missed, report it by the end of the next working day after the scheduled collection.

1. Confirm it was due.
   Check your exact property in the live collection finder.
2. Check the presentation time.
   Normal waste must be available by 6:30am, or by 5:30am on a bank holiday.
3. Check where it was left.
   Containers should be at the kerbside or agreed collection point without blocking access.
4. Check contents and weight.
   The council can leave contaminated, overloaded, excessively heavy or incorrectly presented containers.
5. Check garden-waste payment.
   A brown garden bin will not be emptied without an active paid subscription.
6. Report by the end of the next working day.
   Leave the qualifying missed waste available after submitting the report.

Wokingham Garden Waste 2026/27: £99 Annual Service

Wokingham’s brown garden-waste service is optional and paid. The current annual subscription is £99 per registered garden-waste bin for the service year running from 1 April 2026 to 31 March 2027.

What goes in the brown garden bin?

Frozen garden waste

During cold weather, damp garden material can freeze against the inside of the bin. Avoid compacting it and loosen frozen material before presenting the bin because crews cannot safely dig material out by hand.

Broken or missing brown bin

Current garden-waste subscribers can request a replacement. Wokingham currently charges £44 for a replacement garden-waste bin where the council is not responsible for the damage or loss.

The council says a replacement is normally delivered within 10 working days. A damaged bin being exchanged should be empty, visible and left at the edge of the property.

Wokingham Brown Garden-Waste Sacks: £2 Each

Residents who do not want a full garden-waste bin subscription can buy authorised compostable brown sacks for smaller amounts of garden waste.

After booking, wait for the confirmation that gives the approved collection day. If you already have an active garden-waste bin subscription, the council says you do not need to make a separate booking for official sacks placed beside the subscribed bin.

Black Bin Always Full? Check Extra-Capacity Support

If your household regularly produces more residual waste than the black bin can hold, first remove recyclable material and use the weekly food-waste service. Wokingham can then consider extra capacity based on individual circumstances.

The council says most additional-capacity applications are processed within four weeks. The solution offered depends on the household circumstances rather than automatically providing another standard bin.

Need Help Moving Your Wokingham Bins?

Wokingham offers assisted collections for residents in houses who cannot move waste containers because of illness, disability or frailty and do not have another person in the household who can help.

All three conditions should apply

• The resident is elderly, disabled or has a permanent or long-term condition preventing normal presentation.
• No other adult in the household is able to put out the waste.
• The property layout allows the collection crew to access an agreed safe collection point.

If approved, crews can collect from the doorstep or another agreed position at the front of the property and return the containers after emptying.

Residents using communal bin stores in flats should normally contact their landlord or managing agent rather than apply for the standard household assisted service.

Wokingham Flats and Communal Bin Stores

Flats with shared storage use communal containers sized to the number of homes. The system can include shared residual-waste bins, mixed-recycling bins and larger communal food-waste containers.

The landlord or management company is normally responsible for maintaining communal containers and the bin store, including access arrangements.

Wokingham Bulky Waste Collection: £72 for Up to 3 Large Items

Wokingham currently charges £72 for a bulky collection covering up to three large household items. The same booking can also include up to three qualifying small electrical or battery-powered items.

Presentation rules

• Leave booked items outside at the front of the property.
• Place them as close to the public highway as safely possible.
• Do not block pedestrians or traffic.
• Present items the night before or by 6:30am on collection day.
• The council says booked items should be collected by 4pm.
• Crews do not collect from inside homes, rear gardens, garages or behind gates.

Items should be empty, clean and safe to handle. Builders’ rubble, garden waste, hazardous waste and some construction or DIY materials are excluded from the normal bulky service.

Changing or cancelling a booking

Amendments can currently be made up to two working days before collection. Cancellations can be made up to 3pm on the day before collection; later cancellation is not refundable.

Wokingham Household Recycling Centres: Longshot Lane and Smallmead

Wokingham Borough residents use two nearby household recycling centres operated through the re3 partnership. The council directs residents to book a visit before taking household material to these sites.

Clothes, Shoes and Small Electricals: Reuse Before Disposal

Wokingham currently promotes a separate free doorstep reuse collection operated by Anglo Doorstep Collections for suitable clothing, shoes, small electrical items, towels, toys and other reusable household goods.

This is separate from the council’s normal waste round and from the paid bulky-waste service. A booking is required before items are collected.

Bank Holidays, Christmas and Collection Disruptions

On ordinary bank holidays, Wokingham asks residents to have waste ready by 5:30am, one hour earlier than the usual 6:30am presentation time.
