South Staff Bin Collection: Calendar, Schedule & Missed

South Staff Bin Collection: Calendar, Schedule & Missed Bin Help

South Staffordshire District Council uses an address-based waste calendar, so there is no single collection date for every village or postcode. Enter your postcode, select your exact address and use the dates shown for your property.

General waste and main recycling collections alternate between weeks. The separate food-waste service now runs weekly on your normal collection day, while subscribed green garden-waste bins are normally collected every two weeks.

South Staffordshire Bin Collection: Quick Answer

Use South Staffordshire District Council’s live collection calendar. Enter a South Staffordshire postcode, choose the exact property from the address list and check the collection dates shown there.

General waste and recycling are collected on alternating weeks. Food waste is collected every week. Subscribed garden-waste bins are collected fortnightly. Put bins, bags and caddies at the edge of the property before 7am with wheelie-bin lids closed.

How to Check Your South Staff Bin Collection Day

The collection calendar is property-specific. Two households elsewhere in South Staffordshire should not assume they share the same collection date simply because they use the same bin system.

  1. Open the official collection calendar.
Use South Staffordshire District Council’s online property search.
  2. Enter your postcode.
Use a South Staffordshire postcode in the search field and run the address lookup.
  3. Select the exact address.
Scroll through the address list if necessary and choose your property.
  4. Check each collection date.
Note which bin, bag or caddy is due rather than remembering only the weekday.
  5. Recheck around holidays or service disruption.
The online calendar includes collection information that should take priority over an old screenshot or printed reminder.
Postcode not recognised? South Staffordshire Council advises residents who cannot find their postcode in the calendar to contact its Community Services team.

Grey Bin, Blue Bin, Blue Bag and Green Bin

Grey bin

General household waste

The grey bin is for household waste that cannot be recycled through the council’s separate collection services.

Examples listed by the council include nappies, bagged pet waste, polystyrene, dark-coloured food trays, plastic film, wrappers and some hard plastics.

Blue bin

Glass, cans and plastics

The blue recycling bin accepts items such as glass bottles and jars, tins, cans, empty aerosols, suitable plastic bottles, tubs and light-coloured food trays.

Rinse recycling where appropriate and keep food, liquids, paper, card, electrical items and unsuitable plastics out.

Blue bag

Paper, card and cardboard

South Staffordshire keeps paper and cardboard separate from the blue recycling bin. Use the blue bag and keep its Velcro lid closed so the material stays dry.

Oversized cardboard or other side waste should not be left next to the blue bag.

Green bin

Subscribed garden waste

Green bins are for eligible garden waste such as grass cuttings, leaves, small twigs, hedge clippings, cut flowers and small branches.

Food waste, soil, rubble, invasive plants, wood and ordinary household rubbish must stay out.

Batteries, electrical items and vapes: do not put them loose inside household bins. South Staffordshire provides a separate kerbside option for eligible small electrical items and household batteries.

Weekly Food Waste Collection

South Staffordshire introduced its separate food-waste service in summer 2026, with collections beginning in the week commencing 8 June 2026.

Indoor caddy

Use the smaller indoor caddy and supplied liners while preparing meals and clearing plates.

Outdoor caddy

Move tied food-waste liners into the larger outdoor caddy and present that container on your normal collection day.

No subscription fee

The household food-waste collection service and the initial caddies and liners are provided without a separate collection charge.

Apartment or communal property? the arrangement can differ. Some communal properties receive shared outdoor food-waste containers rather than an individual kerbside caddy setup.

South Staffordshire Collection-Day Rules

Before 7am

Have the correct council-issued bin or bag at the edge of the property before 7am on collection day.

Close the lid

Wheelie-bin lids should be fully closed. Blue-bag lids should also be closed so paper and card remain dry.

Keep access clear

Position containers so crews can reach them without creating unnecessary obstruction for pedestrians.

Remove contamination

If a bin or bag contains unacceptable material, the crew can leave it behind and will not return as though it were a normal missed collection.

Collection vehicles can arrive later than usual. Standard bin and bag rounds can continue until 6pm, so do not report a missed collection while the day’s route is still operating.

South Staff Missed Bin: Reporting Deadline & Checks

South Staffordshire gives residents a specific reporting window. Online missed-bin reports can be made until midnight on the day after the scheduled collection. Telephone reports should be made by 5pm on the next working day.

  1. Check the calendar.
Confirm that the bin or bag was actually due at your exact property.
  2. Wait until the collection round has finished.
Crews can collect up to 6pm on the scheduled day.
  3. Check presentation.
Make sure it was outside before 7am, the lid was closed and the correct council container was used.
  4. Check the contents.
Look for contamination, excessive weight, wet paper or a crew tag explaining why the item was left.
  5. Report within the deadline.
Use the online missed-collection route by midnight the following day.

After the council’s checks, an eligible return collection should normally be made within three working days.

Contaminated bin? remove the incorrect material and wait for the next scheduled collection. The council does not treat a contamination refusal as an eligible missed collection.

South Staffordshire Garden Waste 2026/27

Garden waste is a paid opt-in service. The current 2026/27 subscription year runs from 29 June 2026 to 30 June 2027.

£49 per green bin

The current annual subscription is £49 for each green garden-waste bin, regardless of when during the scheme year you join.

Every two weeks

A subscribed green bin is normally emptied fortnightly throughout the subscription year.

7–14 day setup

The council advises that it can take around 7 to 14 days after sign-up for a green bin to be added to the collection schedule.

There is no concession or instalment option under the current scheme. Residents can subscribe to more than one green bin, with a valid subscription required for each container.

The council sends a permit sticker for the subscribed bin. The sticker should be attached where collection crews can see it, although the subscription is also recorded electronically.

Sharing with a neighbour: the council allows a garden-waste bin to be shared, but service communication is sent to the property that bought the subscription.

What to Do With Extra Household Waste or Recycling

Extra grey-bin waste

Ordinary side waste is not accepted beside the grey bin. Additional capacity may be considered where there is a qualifying medical need or a large family.

Extra recycling

Use a Staffordshire Recycling Centre for additional recycling. If paper and card regularly exceed one blue bag, contact the council about a second bag.

Extra garden waste

Buy an additional garden-waste subscription for another green bin or take suitable household garden waste to a recycling centre.

Small Electrical Items and Household Batteries

South Staffordshire provides a kerbside option for eligible small electrical items and household batteries. Put them in a carrier bag—not a black sack—and place the bag next to your grey bin on collection day.

Eligible electrical items must be smaller than about 35cm × 40cm. Examples include kettles, toasters, irons and hairdryers.

Do not place electrical items or batteries inside the bin. Fluorescent tubes, light bulbs and car or industrial batteries should instead go through an appropriate recycling-centre route.

Need Help Moving Your Bin or Bag?

South Staffordshire can provide an assisted collection service for residents who have difficulty moving their wheeled bin or bag to the normal collection point.

If you already have an assisted collection arrangement for ordinary wheeled bins, the council’s current garden-waste terms state that the arrangement also applies to subscribed green bins using the same agreed collection point.

South Staffordshire Bulky Waste Collection

South Staffordshire District Council offers a paid collection service for eligible large household items such as furniture and appliances.

First item: £45

The current charge begins at £45 for the first eligible bulky item.

Extra item: £10

Each additional eligible item costs £10, with a maximum of nine items in one collection.

Book ahead

The booking system normally offers several available dates and can allow booking up to around three weeks ahead.

  • Put booked items outside before 7am.
  • Leave them at the front of the property where crews can reach them.
  • Only booked items will be collected.
  • Crews do not enter houses, garages or outbuildings.
  • Maximum standard item dimensions are 1.83m × 1.23m.
  • Items must be manageable by two people.
A bulky-waste collection day can be different from your ordinary bin day. The council cannot provide an exact collection timeslot.

Recycling Centres Serving South Staffordshire

Household recycling centres are operated by Staffordshire County Council rather than South Staffordshire District Council. Use the county council’s live centre pages before travelling because opening days, access restrictions and accepted materials can change.

Bilbrook Recycling Centre

Address:
Pendeford Mill Lane
Codsall
South Staffordshire
WV8 1RR

For the 29 March to 24 October 2026 period, the published hours are 9am–6pm Monday to Friday and 9am–5pm Saturday and Sunday.

Cars do not require the van/trailer permit. A permit is required for qualifying vans, pick-ups and larger trailers.

Check Bilbrook before travelling

Wombourne Recycling Centre

Address:
Botterham Lane
Wombourne
South Staffordshire
DY3 4RA

Wombourne is currently operating a restricted service while refurbishment work continues. Access is limited and only selected waste streams are being accepted.

Staffordshire County Council announced in September 2026 that it expects the centre to return to full service around the end of 2026 or early 2027, with the exact reopening date still to be confirmed.

Check current Wombourne restrictions
Do not assume Wombourne accepts the same materials as Bilbrook right now. Its current partial-service restrictions mean residents should check the live site page before loading the vehicle.

Flats and Communal Bin Collections

Flats and communal developments can use different containers or collection arrangements from standard houses. Do not assume the normal grey-bin and blue-bin setup applies unchanged to your building.

If you have a problem with communal waste or recycling, contact South Staffordshire District Council with the property details so the council can identify the correct arrangement.

Communal properties can also have a different food-waste setup, including shared outdoor food-waste bins.

Bank Holidays and Collection Changes

South Staffordshire’s online waste calendar includes Bank Holiday collection information. Check the live property calendar rather than assuming that every collection automatically moves by one day after a Bank Holiday.

Before the holiday

Search your address and check which container and date are shown for the affected week.

During disruption

Check the council’s service updates if snow, severe weather or another operational issue affects collections.

Best Next Step: Search Your Exact South Staffordshire Address

Use the council’s live postcode calendar first. It tells you which container is due and avoids relying on a generic timetable that may not match your street.

Put the correct bin, bag or food caddy at the property edge before 7am. If it remains uncollected after the route has finished, check presentation and contamination before reporting it within the council’s deadline.
