Household rubbish is processed through Allerton Waste Recovery Park, where organic material is separated and treated using anaerobic digestion to produce biogas and renewable electricity.
Soft plastic changes from 1 April 2027
Carrier bags, wrappers, cling film and other flexible plastic should not be placed in normal North Yorkshire recycling during 2026.
Councils are due to add plastic bags and wrapping to recycling from 1 April 2027. Wait for North Yorkshire’s household instructions before changing what goes in your container.
What should I do with soft plastic now?

New Build, Moving House or Address Not Showing?
Existing property with no bins
Use the new/replacement-bin route where an existing Council Tax property has no containers.
Brand-new or converted property
For newly built or newly converted properties, the developer is responsible for the initial bin process or should be contacted before a resident submits the ordinary replacement-bin request.
Housing developments
For developments with street naming and numbering approved after 29 October 2025, developers must follow North Yorkshire’s current bin-order and payment process before delivery.
Communal development
Shared-container requests should normally be managed through the landlord, managing agent or developer.

Do not select a neighbour’s property to generate dates. Report/check the address instead so the correct collection service can be attached.
