North Warwickshire Bin Collection: Days, Calendar & Schedule

North Warwickshire Bin Collection: Find Your Day, Calendar & Bin Schedule

North Warwickshire Borough Council changed its collection rounds in February 2026 and introduced weekly food-waste collections in July. If you are still following an older printed timetable, your collection day or the bin due may have changed.

Use the council’s property search for the next black, red-lidded and green-bin dates. This guide also covers food caddies, missed bins, recycling rules, garden permits and Lower House Farm Recycling Centre.

Quick Answer: When Is My North Warwickshire Bin Collected?

Black rubbish bins and red-lidded recycling bins are collected fortnightly on alternating weeks. Eligible subscribed green garden bins are also emptied fortnightly, excluding the Christmas and New Year service break. Food waste is collected weekly on the same weekday as the household’s usual collection.

Put wheelie bins at the edge of your property by 6:30am. The exact day depends on your address, so check North Warwickshire Borough Council’s live bin collection calendar rather than relying on an old week-one or week-two timetable.

How to Check Your North Warwickshire Bin Collection Calendar

The council’s collection search is the correct starting point for households in Atherstone, Coleshill, Polesworth, Dordon, Hartshill, Kingsbury, Water Orton and other communities within the borough.

Your postcode alone may cover several properties. Select the correct address to identify the collection day and scheduled waste stream.

  1. Open the council collection page. Visit the official North Warwickshire bin collection dates service.
  2. Search your address. Enter your full postcode, including its space, or search by street, house or building name where supported.
  3. Choose your property. Check that you have selected your actual house or flat.
  4. Read the next collection dates. Identify whether the coming collection is black rubbish, red-lidded recycling or subscribed garden waste.
  5. Keep the updated dates. Bookmark the result or use the council app for reminders and future checks.
Check the new schedule: the February 2026 round redesign affected around 80% of borough households. That makes old printed calendars particularly unreliable for some addresses.

What Changed in North Warwickshire’s 2026 Bin Collection Schedule?

From Monday 23 February 2026, North Warwickshire Borough Council reorganised waste collection rounds across the borough. The council announced that approximately 80% of households would have a different day, a different waste stream scheduled, or both.

Week one

The redesigned collection cycle groups black residual rubbish collections into the first week of the two-week rotation.

Week two

Red-lidded dry recycling collections follow during the alternate week of the rotation.

Garden waste changes

Some residents with paid green-bin subscriptions also had their garden collection day moved.

The council sent letters explaining revised rounds and the next scheduled collections. Residents can also use the website, council app or dedicated Waste Services team to confirm their dates.

Useful distinction: “week one” and “week two” describe the council’s collection rotation. They do not mean the first or second calendar week of a month. Always identify the actual dated collection for your address.

North Warwickshire Bin Colours: What Goes in Each Bin?

Black bin

General rubbish

For non-recyclable household materials such as:

  • Nappies and sanitary waste
  • Polystyrene
  • Dog waste and cat litter
  • Vacuum cleaner contents
  • Cold ash, safely bagged

Do not put food waste, garden waste, electricals, rubble, soil or hazardous items in this bin.

Red-lidded bin

Dry mixed recycling

For the council’s accepted dry recycling, including suitable:

  • Clean paper and cardboard
  • Plastic packaging
  • Metal cans and tins
  • Glass containers
  • Clean soft plastic wrapping

Keep incorrect items, food scraps and hazardous materials out.

Green bin

Subscribed garden waste

  • Grass cuttings
  • Leaves and flowers
  • Weeds
  • Twigs and small branches
  • Suitable compostable bags
  • Herbivore bedding made of hay, straw or wood shavings

Food waste has been excluded from the garden service since 6 July 2026.

Do not confuse the containers. North Warwickshire uses a red-lidded recycling bin rather than the purple-lidded or blue-paper-bag arrangements found in some other councils.

North Warwickshire Weekly Food Waste Collection: Started July 2026

North Warwickshire Borough Council introduced weekly separate household food waste collections on 6 July 2026. Food waste is collected on the same weekday as your other scheduled waste service, but a dedicated food-waste vehicle empties it.

Start date6 July 2026
FrequencyWeekly
Indoor caddy5 litres
Outdoor caddy23 litres

What food can be collected?

  • Fruit and vegetable peelings
  • Plate leftovers
  • Meat, fish and bones
  • Bread, rice and pasta
  • Tea bags and coffee grounds
  • Other accepted cooked or uncooked food scraps

Using your caddies

Collect food scraps in the small indoor caddy using appropriate liners. Transfer them to the larger outdoor caddy and present it on your scheduled collection day.

Keep food packaging, ordinary plastics, household rubbish and garden material out of the food-waste stream.

The council supplied an indoor caddy, outdoor caddy, a starter roll of liners and an information pack to households as part of the launch.

Flats and communal properties: these are being served through a phased rollout. The council provides building-specific information before collections begin, so some communal properties may have a different start date.

If your caddy is missing or damaged, use the council’s food waste service request or contact its dedicated waste line on 01827 719389.

Can Plastic Bags and Wrapping Go in the Red-Lidded Bin?

Yes. North Warwickshire expanded its mixed recycling service from 28 July 2025 to accept a range of flexible plastics through the normal red-lidded recycling bin.

Examples of accepted soft plastics

  • Clean plastic wrapping and film
  • Confectionery wrappers
  • Outer packaging from multipacks
  • Bubble wrap
  • Fruit and vegetable net bags
  • Clean food wrapping

Preparation matters

Empty packaging and remove food residue before recycling. Heavily contaminated or unsuitable items should not be mixed with the recycling stream.

Never put batteries, electrical appliances or food waste in the red-lidded bin.

Check North Warwickshire’s current red-bin recycling guidance.

Collection-Day Rules: Why 6:30am Matters

Present by 6:30am

Black, red-lidded and green bins should be ready at the edge of the property by 6:30am on their scheduled collection day.

Use the correct bin

The collection crew may refuse waste presented in the wrong bin or containing the wrong materials.

Do not overload

An excessively heavy bin can be unsafe to move or lift and may not be emptied.

Check the garden sticker

A paid green bin must display a valid collection permit beneath the handles at the back.

Keep access clear

Parked vehicles, roadworks, snow or blocked access may prevent crews from reaching your bin.

No normal side waste

Extra bags left beside a bin are not normally taken. A specific exception applies after a genuine reported missed collection.

North Warwickshire Missed Bin: Reporting and Return Rules

If your scheduled black, red-lidded or green bin was not emptied, do not assume the council will return automatically. North Warwickshire’s published missed-bin procedure is different from councils that promise a collection within a day or two.

  1. Confirm the collection day. Check the current property calendar, especially if your route changed in February 2026.
  2. Check the presentation deadline. Your bin should have been ready by 6:30am.
  3. Inspect for a notice. Contaminated, overfilled or excessively heavy bins may be rejected.
  4. Check for local disruption. Snow, ice, roadworks, blocked access or a vehicle breakdown can affect collections.
  5. Report a genuine miss. Use the council’s official missed-bin form even though it does not normally arrange a separate return visit.
  6. Prepare for the next scheduled date. Follow the specific extra-waste allowance described below.
Important: no routine revisit. North Warwickshire Borough Council says it will not return solely to empty a missed bin. Once the genuine miss has been reported, the bin will be emptied on the next scheduled collection day, along with up to three bags of additional waste.

That side-waste exception only applies when you have informed the council that the bin was genuinely missed. For recycling or garden and food waste, the council asks for the additional material in an untied bag or suitable container.

If your bin was presented incorrectly or contained prohibited materials, the normal missed-bin allowance should not be assumed to apply.

North Warwickshire Green Bin Subscription 2026/27

The council offers a chargeable garden waste collection service. For the subscription year 1 April 2026 to 31 March 2027, the published cost is £45 per green bin.

Annual fee£45 per bin
Collection cycleFortnightly
Permit deliveryWithin 10 working days
Subscription ends31 March

How to subscribe

  1. Open the official green-bin subscription service.
  2. Provide your address and required household information.
  3. Pay the annual charge for each green bin you wish to subscribe.
  4. Complete the return to the council form after payment and retain the GBC reference number.
  5. Wait for the permit sticker, normally issued within ten working days.
  6. Place the valid sticker on the back of the green bin, immediately below the handles.

The council does not offer part-year reductions or discounts for multiple bins, infrequent use or benefit recipients. A subscription purchased partway through the year still expires on 31 March.

If payment seems to have gone through but no confirmation appears, check whether the amount has been taken before submitting a second payment. Contact 01827 715341 if you need assistance.

What if the sticker is missing? The council will not empty a green bin without a valid permit displayed, even if payment has been made. Contact the council about a missing or replacement sticker before your collection.
Seasonal exclusion: fortnightly garden collections do not operate over the usual Christmas and New Year service break. Check the property calendar for the last collection and resumption date.

Free Weekly Battery and Small Electrical Collection

North Warwickshire started a free household battery and small electrical collection service on 6 July 2026. These items are taken separately from the normal bins because batteries can cause fires when damaged during waste collection.

Household batteries

Put used household batteries in a separate securely tied bag and present the bag alongside the collection bin or food-waste caddy.

Examples include AA, AAA, button and rechargeable batteries. Specialist vehicle batteries are not included.

Small electrical items

Put accepted electricals in a different bag from batteries. Examples include phones, cables, chargers, hairdryers, kettles, headphones and small household electronic devices.

Items must be smaller than a four-slice toaster and suitable for collection in a carrier bag.

Never mix batteries with electricals in one bag. Do not put batteries, vapes or electrical items inside any household wheelie bin. Larger electrical equipment should go through the appropriate recycling-centre route.

The council says no registration or special permit is needed. Remove personal data and SIM cards from old devices wherever possible before recycling.

Bin Collections for Flats and Communal Properties

Residents in flats with communal bin stores generally do not need to wheel shared black or red-lidded containers to the pavement. North Warwickshire’s collection guidance says crews empty them from the communal storage arrangement.

Separate food waste collections are being introduced to flats and communal properties in phases. Residents should receive information and their indoor food caddies before their building’s service begins.

Shared rubbish and recycling

Use the correct communal bins and keep the storage area accessible. Do not leave household furniture or large items blocking crew access.

Communal food-waste rollout

Check the council’s published rollout information for your building instead of assuming every flat started on 6 July 2026.

Replacement Bins, Assisted Collections and Collection Problems

Missing or damaged bin

The council provides a request route for bin repairs, replacement containers and the removal of spare bins. Charges may apply depending on the service requested.

Assisted collection

Residents who genuinely cannot move their bins and have no one else in the household able to help may qualify for an assisted collection arrangement.

Additional waste capacity

Where household needs exceed the standard container arrangement, ask the council about eligibility and evidence required for extra capacity.

Calendar or app problems

If you cannot find a new collection date, use the council’s Waste Services helpline on 01827 719389 or email [email protected].

The council’s mobile app also displays future bin collections and provides reminder notifications.

Bulky Waste Collection: Sofas, Mattresses and Furniture

North Warwickshire Borough Council offers a chargeable household bulky-waste collection service in partnership with Emmaus Coventry and Warwickshire. Items that can be reused may be directed into charitable reuse.

Typical accepted items include household furniture, mattresses, bed bases, sofas, chairs, certain white goods, bicycles and other suitable large household items.

How to arrange collection

  1. Check that your household item is accepted.
  2. Contact the council’s Customer Services team.
  3. Confirm the current fee and available collection slot.
  4. List every item when booking.
  5. Place only the booked items at the property edge by 7am on collection day.

What to know

The service is for households, not businesses or landlords. Booking availability varies and charges apply.

Because the published bulky-waste page contains older financial-year wording, confirm the current fee with the council rather than relying on a historical price.

Check bulky-waste collection arrangements.

Lower House Farm Household Recycling Centre, Baddesley Ensor

Lower House Farm is the local household recycling centre serving North Warwickshire residents. It is managed by Warwickshire County Council, rather than the borough council that empties domestic bins.

Location

Lower House Farm Recycling Centre
Lower House Lane
Baddesley Ensor
Atherstone
CV9 2QA

The site is just off the A5 at the Dordon roundabout, using the Wood End exit.

Weekend booking change

From 25 July 2026, weekend visits require a booking under Warwickshire’s hybrid recycling-centre booking arrangements.

Book a Saturday or Sunday slot before travelling. Check current weekday access rules, vehicle restrictions and accepted materials too.

Lower House Farm also has an Age UK reuse shop for suitable unwanted goods. Check the shop’s own opening arrangements separately from the recycling centre.

Before travelling: recycling-centre opening hours can vary seasonally. The council identifies later Wednesday opening during the summer period, so check the latest timetable before setting off.

Christmas, Bank Holidays and Severe Weather Collection Changes

A bank holiday does not by itself prove that your collection has moved. Use the council’s current collection calendar and published disruption notices for the week concerned.

Snow, ice, blocked access and vehicle breakdowns can prevent bins being emptied. When a genuine missed collection occurs, the council’s normal reporting and next-scheduled-collection procedure applies unless it publishes different disruption instructions.

Bank holiday

Check the actual property date rather than assuming the collection moves to the following day.

Christmas and New Year

Check black and red-lidded collection dates separately from the seasonal green-bin break.

Ice or snow

Look for current service notices and keep access safe. Avoid creating further hazards with containers.
