White tag on the recycling bin?
A white tag means the crew deliberately did not empty it because of incorrect contents, access or presentation.
- Read the white tag.
- Remove the incorrect material or correct access.
- Remove the tag.
- Present the bin again on its next scheduled recycling date.
Do not report a white-tagged recycling bin as a missed collection. Ealing says the crew will not return when the tag explains why it was left.
Ealing Black Rubbish Bin: What to Do With Non-Recyclable Waste
The black wheelie bin is for household rubbish that cannot use Ealing’s recycling, food, garden, textile, battery, electrical or other specialist routes.
Bag rubbish inside the bin
All ordinary rubbish should be bagged and placed inside the black wheelie bin with the lid shut.
No side waste
Extra rubbish on top of or beside the black bin will not be collected.
Do not leave furniture beside it
Sofas, mattresses, wardrobes and other large household items need an authorised bulky collection, reuse option or recycling-centre route.
White tag on the black bin?
Correct the problem written on the tag, remove it and present the black bin at the property boundary by 7am on the next scheduled rubbish date.
A tagged black bin is not treated as a normal missed collection.

Batteries, Textiles and Electricals: Do Not Hide Them Inside the Blue Bin
Household batteries
Never put batteries loose inside the rubbish or recycling bin. They can start fires when crushed in a collection vehicle or waste facility.
For Ealing’s household recycling collection, batteries should be bagged separately and are preferably placed on top of the blue bin.
Textiles
Reusable clothes should be donated or reused where possible.
For Ealing’s kerbside textile route, place suitable textiles in a clear or white bag on top of or next to the blue bin on collection day.
Tie shoes together in pairs.
Small electrical items
An item with a plug, battery or cable should not be placed inside an ordinary rubbish or recycling bin.
Examples include phones, tablets, laptops, kettles, hairdryers, electronic toys, radios and small power tools.
Free electrical home collection
Ealing’s partnership with the West London Waste Authority and TRAID provides free home collection of small electricals when the booking also includes at least one bag of unwanted clothes, shoes or textiles.

Ealing Garden Waste 2026/27: Current Prices and Winter Pause
Garden waste is an optional paid fortnightly service.
The 2026/27 service has a lower annual price, new part-year joining prices and an eight-week winter pause.

Who can get the concessionary rate?
Ealing currently offers concessionary pricing to households receiving qualifying means-tested benefits or where the relevant resident is over 65.
Complete the concession section before paying. Ealing says the reduced rate will not be applied retrospectively after payment.
Second subscription
The reduced-price column also applies to a second garden-waste subscription.
Winter pause
The 2026/27 service has an eight-week winter pause.
Collections pause during December 2026 and restart during February 2027. Use your own calendar for the exact last and first collection.
Which week is garden waste?
For most subscribers it is collected on the blue recycling-bin week, but some subscribers have their garden collection on the black rubbish-bin week.
Use the garden calendar rather than assuming.
Container choices
The current service offers:
- 1 × 240L green garden-waste wheelie bin
- 3 × 90L reusable garden sacks
- 25 or 75 compostable sacks, subject to availability
The subscription price includes the relevant service container/bags.
Sticker or bag tags
A subscribed wheelie bin needs its current calendar sticker attached to the lid. Reusable sacks require the subscription tag attached to a handle.
Crews will only collect garden wheelie bins displaying the current sticker and subscribed reusable sacks displaying the current tag.

Allow approximately 5–10 working days.
How long do containers take?
If a new bin or bags are needed, Ealing says delivery is normally within 10 working days after payment.

Moving outside the borough
Tell Ealing so it can arrange return of its containers. The current service also allows a possible pro-rata refund when moving out of the borough, subject to its terms.
Cancellation
A full refund can be requested within seven working days after payment, but the cancellation right ends once the containers have been delivered.
Missed garden collection
Report it no later than 1pm the following day.
New, Missing, Replacement, Extra and Larger Ealing Bins
Standard rubbish-bin size
Most wheelie-bin households use a 180-litre black rubbish bin, which Ealing says holds roughly four rubbish bags.
Larger rubbish bin
The larger household rubbish container is 360 litres, with capacity for roughly seven bags.
Who may qualify for larger capacity?
Ealing may consider an additional or larger rubbish bin for:
- A large household
- A qualifying medical need
- Another genuine reason for additional residual-waste capacity
Before approval, Ealing checks that the household is making reasonable use of its recycling services.
Unauthorised extra rubbish bin
Do not simply buy or present a second black bin. Ealing records the authorised number at each property and says an unapproved extra rubbish bin will not be emptied.
Extra recycling and food containers
Ealing currently says extra recycling wheelie bins and extra food-waste bins can be ordered without a container charge.

Where a larger rubbish bin is approved and purchased, Ealing removes the previous rubbish bin after delivering the new one.
Delivery target
Bins or sacks are normally targeted for delivery within 10 working days. An order needing additional checks may take longer.

For a shared-bin order, the form may require managing-agent or landlord details.
Ealing Flats, Communal Bins and Clear Recycling Sacks
A flat should not automatically follow the wheelie-bin instructions for a house. Use the waste arrangement assigned to the building.

Depending on the property, recycling can be provided through shared wheelie bins, larger communal containers, green boxes or mixed clear sacks.
Communal collection frequency
Ealing’s collection-day information says residents using communal bins or living in a flat above a shop have weekly collections.
Clear-sack service
Clear sacks are provided where wheelie bins cannot be used, including eligible flats above shops, red-route properties and certain medium-sized blocks.
Eligible clear-sack households receive 20 sacks three times a year: February, June and October.
The clear recycling sacks are collected weekly from the designated collection point.
Using clear sacks correctly
- Fill with accepted dry mixed recycling.
- Tie the sack securely.
- Present before 7am on collection day only unless a timed schedule applies.

Where does the crew collect from?
An approved household has the collection taken from the front doorstep rather than the normal front boundary. The container is returned after emptying.
Flats
Ealing does not offer this assisted-bin service to flats. Residents in flats who require practical help should contact their landlord or building-management arrangement.
Approval is not permanent
Residents remain on the assisted register for two years and must then reapply.
Service can stop earlier
If somebody able to move the bins is found to be living at the property, the assisted arrangement can be stopped.

Ealing Clinical Waste and Sharps Collection
Ealing’s resident clinical-waste collection service is free.
Clinical sacks
Council clinical sacks can be used for appropriate waste such as:

How soon does the service start?
Ealing says clinical-sack collections normally start within two weeks and then run weekly.
Sharps boxes
Use a proper sharps box for:

Ealing does not supply the sharps box itself; it is normally provided when the medication is issued.
Sharps collection timing
The council aims to collect a requested sharps box within 14 working days. The day is allocated according to postcode.
Put the sharps box outside the front door on the collection day. The contractor only collects boxes that are presented outside.
One-off request
A sharps-box collection is not automatically recurring. Submit another request each time a further sharps collection is required.

- Medicines and pharmaceutical products — return to a pharmacy or clinic.

Ealing’s current standard household bulky charge is £30 for up to six eligible items.

- Keep them within the front property boundary.
- Make them visible.
- Keep them easy for two-person crews to access.

The crew will not enter your house, back garden, garage or another internal location to retrieve items.

Residents on a red route should use the alternative bulky-waste route identified by Ealing rather than booking a collection the council cannot complete.

Advance booking is compulsory. Residents arriving at Greenford Road without a booking are not allowed entry.

Higher vehicles and vehicles carrying DIY/building or commercial material use the weighbridge. Vehicles over 3.5 tonnes gross are not accepted under the published site rules.

For a hire vehicle carrying the resident’s own domestic waste, take:

Ealing Bank Holidays and Christmas 2026
Do not assume a one-day delay
There is no safe universal rule that every Ealing Bank Holiday collection simply moves to the following day.
Check the exact property calendar and current council announcement around the holiday.
August Bank Holiday 2026
The August Bank Holiday falls on Monday 31 August 2026.
At this 20 August review, I would not hard-code a revised Ealing household collection date without a specific current council timetable for the affected address.
Christmas 2026 and New Year 2027
Do not reuse Ealing’s Christmas 2025 / January 2026 table.
The previous festive programme shifted collections across multiple weeks and normal rounds did not resume until 19 January 2026. That demonstrates why an old Christmas table is unsafe for December 2026.

Garden service is different
The garden-waste service already has a known winter pause: collections stop during December 2026 and resume during February 2027 according to the subscriber’s calendar.
Live road delays
Vehicle breakdowns, staffing issues and knock-on route delays can affect individual streets outside Bank Holiday periods too.
