AVDC Bin Collection: Dates, Bin Colours, Calendars & Missed Reports

Looking for the old AVDC bin calendar? Aylesbury Vale District Council no longer operates the waste service. Buckinghamshire Council now handles household rubbish, recycling, food waste, garden-waste subscriptions and missed collections across the former Aylesbury Vale area.

Start with your full postcode and exact property. The live council checker shows the dates for the collection streams serving your address, rather than a guessed timetable for all of Aylesbury Vale.

AVDC Bin Collection: Quick Answer

Use Buckinghamshire Council’s postcode-based bin-day checker. Enter your postcode, select your address and read your upcoming general waste, recycling, food-waste and subscribed garden-waste dates. A printable calendar for October 2026 to March 2027 is available through the address checker.

For standard former Aylesbury Vale houses, general waste and mixed recycling are normally collected on alternating fortnightly rounds, food waste weekly, and subscribed garden waste fortnightly outside the winter suspension. Put bins out at the designated collection point by 6:30am.

What Happened to AVDC Bin Collections?

AVDC stands for Aylesbury Vale District Council. It was replaced as part of the creation of the single Buckinghamshire Council on 1 April 2020. Residents may still search for “AVDC bin collection”, “AVDC recycling calendar” or “Aylesbury Vale missed bin” because the older name remains familiar.

The former Aylesbury Vale area includes Aylesbury, Buckingham, Winslow and surrounding towns and villages. However, an address in or around these places should still be checked through the current council system rather than an archived AVDC web address.

Important local difference: Buckinghamshire Council’s waste collection policy refers to the former Aylesbury Vale area as its North service area. Some containers and recycling rules differ from the council’s South area, so do not copy sorting instructions from a different part of Buckinghamshire.

How to Check Your AVDC Bin Collection Dates by Postcode

The collection-day checker is the primary official service for getting the next actual date. It distinguishes collection streams, and it also provides the route to a downloadable household calendar.

  1. Open Buckinghamshire Council’s bin-day service. Use the current council website rather than an old AVDC calendar or third-party timetable.
  2. Enter your full postcode. Postcodes may cover several houses or flats, so do not stop after finding the street.
  3. Select your exact address. Confirm the house number or property name to avoid viewing another household’s round.
  4. Read the individual collection dates. Check general rubbish, recycling, food waste and garden waste where applicable.
  5. Download a printable calendar. After selecting your property, use the “Download collection calendar (PDF)” option when available.
  6. Check again after a change. Revisit the live calendar after a bank holiday, new waste-service arrangement or a permanent move.
October 2026 update: Buckinghamshire Council says printable calendars covering October 2026 to March 2027 became available from 1 October 2026. The correct PDF is assigned through the address lookup, not through a single AVDC-wide download.

AVDC Bin Collection Calendar and Normal Frequency

For a standard house in the former Aylesbury Vale area, the waste streams are arranged around fortnightly general rubbish and mixed recycling, weekly food waste and an optional fortnightly garden-waste service.

Waste streamNormal frequencyStandard AVDC-area container
General rubbishEvery 2 weeksGreen 140-litre wheelie bin
Mixed recyclingEvery 2 weeksGreen 240-litre wheelie bin with blue lid
Food wasteEvery weekGreen 23-litre outdoor caddy
Garden wasteEvery 2 weeks when operating and subscribedBrown 240-litre wheelie bin

These are standard service patterns, not confirmed dates for a specific household. Communal buildings, narrow-access roads, assisted collections and some other property arrangements can use different containers.

What does “recycling week” mean?

On the scheduled mixed-recycling round, put out the green wheelie bin with the blue lid. In former Aylesbury Vale, paper and cardboard can go in that mixed recycling bin alongside accepted plastic, metal, glass and cartons. You do not normally need the separate black paper box used elsewhere in Buckinghamshire.

Keep using the address calendar to identify the relevant week, particularly following bank holidays.

AVDC Bin Collection on Bank Holidays and at Christmas

Collection days can move when Buckinghamshire Council operates revised public-holiday rounds. A change affecting one week should not automatically be carried forward to every later week.

Bank holiday weeks

Check the postcode calendar before the holiday. The council may move collection rounds to later weekdays or Saturdays when a scheduled round falls on a holiday.

Christmas and New Year

Collection adjustments can be more extensive over the festive period. Recheck the live household calendar nearer December 2026 rather than assuming last year’s changes apply.

For context, Buckinghamshire Council confirmed that its Easter 2026 arrangements moved Good Friday collections to Saturday 4 April and shifted the week beginning Easter Monday 6 April by one day. That historical example is not a published Christmas timetable.

Do not guess festive collection dates. An individual Christmas 2026 collection timetable for every former AVDC property was not established from the official sources reviewed. Use the live address checker for the actual date.

AVDC Bin Colours: What Goes in Each Container?

The former Aylesbury Vale household system uses green bodies for both general waste and mixed recycling. The lid colour helps distinguish the recycling bin from ordinary general rubbish.

Green bin: general rubbish

Use the standard green general-waste bin for household items that cannot be recycled locally.

  • Non-recyclable household waste
  • Used wipes and sanitary waste
  • Dirty, non-recyclable packaging
  • Other accepted residual waste

Do not place batteries, electrical appliances, hot ashes or hazardous items in this bin.

Green bin with blue lid: mixed recycling

Accepted examples in the former Aylesbury Vale area include:

  • Paper and flattened cardboard
  • Plastic bottles, pots, tubs and trays
  • Steel and aluminium food or drink cans
  • Glass bottles and jars
  • Clean foil and foil trays
  • Food and drink cartons

Empty containers first. Keep out plastic bags, cling film, electricals and general rubbish.

Green caddy: food waste

For raw or cooked household food waste, including:

  • Fruit and vegetable peelings
  • Leftovers
  • Meat, fish and bones
  • Bread, pasta and rice
  • Tea and coffee grounds

A silver kitchen caddy is generally provided for indoor collection before transferring waste to the outdoor caddy.

Brown bin: subscribed garden waste

Accepted examples include:

  • Grass cuttings and leaves
  • Hedge and shrub trimmings
  • Small branches up to 10cm diameter
  • Dead plants and flowers
  • Fallen fruit

Do not include soil, rubble, food waste, animal bedding, plastic liners or invasive plants such as Japanese knotweed.

Paper recycling exception: the former Aylesbury Vale/North area can put paper and cardboard in the blue-lidded mixed-recycling wheelie bin. Other Buckinghamshire areas may require paper to be separated.

AVDC Bin Presentation: 6:30am and Boundary Rules

Buckinghamshire Council’s 2026 household waste policy requires containers to be at the designated collection point by 6:30am. Collection crews do not have to return for bins presented after the round has passed.

Out by 6:30am

Have all scheduled containers ready in the correct place before the collection round starts.

Not before 5pm

Do not place containers out earlier than 5pm on the evening before collection.

Close the lids

Overfilled, overweight or contaminated bins may not be collected.

Keep pavements and access routes clear. Where a property has an assisted or communal arrangement, follow the agreed collection point rather than assuming the kerbside position used by standard houses.

How to Report a Missed AVDC Bin Collection

The correct service is Buckinghamshire Council’s missed-bin reporting form. Before submitting a report, check whether your road is on the council’s list of known incomplete or delayed collections.

Current missed-bin reporting window

Report between 6pm on collection day and midnight the following day. For a Friday collection, the online reporting window extends through Monday.

For an eligible missed collection reported in time, the council aims to return within two working days. Keep the bin available after reporting.

  1. Confirm the correct date. Recheck the collection calendar for the exact property, including any bank holiday adjustment.
  2. Check known delays. If the street is already listed as an incomplete or blocked round, follow that notice instead of creating another report.
  3. Check the bin’s condition. Confirm that it was out by 6:30am, in the correct position, with the lid closed and suitable contents.
  4. Wait until the reporting window opens. Submit an eligible missed collection from 6pm on the scheduled day.
  5. Submit the official form. Give the property and relevant bin information through Buckinghamshire Council’s service.
  6. Leave the bin available. If it is a genuine missed collection, allow access for the return visit.
A non-collection is not always a missed round. Incorrect sorting, excessive weight, blocked access, late presentation or an unregistered garden-waste subscription may mean the council does not arrange a return visit.

AVDC Garden Waste Collection: Cost, Calendar and Winter Break

The brown garden-waste bin is an optional paid service operated by Buckinghamshire Council. An active subscription costs £65 per year per bin; each additional subscribed bin also costs £65 per year.

Annual subscription£65

RenewalAnnual

Published 2026–27 winter suspension

The garden-waste service will be suspended from 14 December 2026 to 22 January 2027, with normal scheduled collections resuming from Monday 25 January 2027. During the suspension, a full brown bin is not automatically an eligible missed collection.

Subscription and sticker requirements

  • Create or use a My Buckinghamshire account to subscribe or renew.
  • The annual subscription runs for one year from your joining date.
  • A valid subscription sticker must be displayed on the brown bin.
  • The council normally expects to provide a new bin and sticker within 10 working days after an eligible first subscription.
  • The bin must weigh less than 50kg and contain accepted garden waste.
  • If you move within Buckinghamshire, use the subscription transfer route rather than taking the council’s bin away.
Subscription check: if the brown bin has not been emptied, first check the winter suspension, sticker, payment status, scheduled day, weight and contents before reporting a missed collection.
Manage Garden Waste Subscription

Weekly Food Waste in the Former AVDC Area

Standard Aylesbury Vale homes normally have a 23-litre green outdoor food caddy and a smaller silver indoor kitchen caddy. Food waste is collected separately from the fortnightly general-waste and mixed-recycling rounds.

Suitable for the food caddy

Cooked and uncooked food, leftover meals, meat, fish, dairy products, bones, peelings, bread and similar household food material.

Keep separate

Packaging, plastic containers, non-food household waste, cat litter, animal bedding and garden waste should not be put in the food caddy.

Some communal developments use a different food-waste container or may not have the same individual caddy arrangement. Check the actual service at your property if you live in a flat.

Extra Recycling and Overflowing Bins

Buckinghamshire Council does not normally collect extra general rubbish placed next to a full wheelie bin. However, the former Aylesbury Vale area has a specific rule allowing a reasonable amount of additional recycling when it is presented correctly.

Extra recycling that may be accepted

Place suitable additional recycling in a cardboard box or clear plastic bag beside the correct recycling bin. Flatten and break down cardboard so it is less than one metre in height and width.

Extra general rubbish

Rubbish outside the green general-waste bin is not accepted through the ordinary collection. Keep it for a suitable disposal route rather than leaving bags on the pavement.

North/South difference: Buckinghamshire’s current household collection policy specifically allows a cardboard box or clear plastic bag for extra recycling in the Aylesbury Vale area. Other council web guidance may describe reusable containers for the South area.

Flats, Narrow Roads and Assisted AVDC Bin Collections

Not every property receives the standard set of green wheelie bins. Shared developments, properties with restricted collection-vehicle access and households needing assistance can have different arrangements.

Communal buildings

Use the bins assigned to the building. Access to bin stores and gates must remain available for collection crews.

Narrow-access roads

Some households use council-provided purple general-waste sacks and blue recycling sacks instead of conventional wheelie bins. Follow the allocation and collection limits for that property.

Assisted collection

Eligible residents can have bins collected from an agreed position and returned after emptying.

Who may qualify for an assisted collection?

Buckinghamshire Council lists residents aged 75 or over, residents with a certified medical condition, and registered disabled residents among those who may qualify. There must also be no household member aged 16 or over who can help.

The free application may require photo identification, proof of address and, where relevant, supporting medical or disability evidence. The council says qualifying applicants are normally added within 10 working days.

Broken, Missing or Incorrect AVDC Bins

If a container is damaged, missing or unsuitable, Buckinghamshire Council has separate services for requesting bins, ordering replacements, changing capacity and reporting problems with a bin order.

Wrong bin delivered?

If a delivery contains the wrong container type or size, use the council’s bin-order problem service rather than reporting a missed collection.

Order not delivered?

The council has a reporting route for bins not delivered within the expected 10 working days. It aims to respond within 10 working days to explain the next step.

New-build homes and recently converted flats may have additional container-allocation requirements, so confirm the address is registered for the correct service.

Bulky Waste: Furniture, Appliances and Large Household Items

A mattress, sofa, washing machine or other bulky item should not be left beside household bins. Buckinghamshire Council operates a separate bulky-item collection service and also identifies items it will not accept.

  1. Identify the item. Check the council’s accepted and excluded bulky-waste categories.
  2. Compare disposal routes. A reuse charity, retailer take-back or household recycling centre may be suitable for the item.
  3. Use the booking system. Confirm the current charge, availability and item details before paying.
  4. Prepare for collection. Put accepted items at the normal bin collection point by 6am on the booked day.
  5. Allow the full service day. Bulky items may be collected as late as 6pm. Wait until the following day before reporting an item as missed.

Do not assume the ordinary missed-bin reporting deadlines apply to bulky-item bookings. These are separate services.
