Wychavon Bin Collection: Find Your Date, Calendar & Correct Bin

Wychavon households normally alternate between a black general-waste bin and a green recycling bin. Each is collected fortnightly, so in a standard wheeled-bin household one colour is usually collected one week and the other colour the following week.

Your exact weekday still depends on your property. Use Wychavon District Council’s postcode lookup for the live collection date rather than copying another road or relying on an old printed calendar.

Wychavon Bin Collection: Quick Answer

Black and green bins normally alternate every week. The standard black rubbish bin is collected fortnightly and the green recycling bin is collected fortnightly on the alternate week.

Put the scheduled container at the boundary of your property nearest the public highway by 7am. Keep the lid closed and make sure the correct material is inside. Use the official postcode-and-address lookup for the actual date attached to your home.

How to Check Your Wychavon Bin Collection Date

The official Bin Round Lookup is the safest place to check your Wychavon bin collection. It asks for your postcode and then the exact address, allowing the collection information to be matched to the property rather than guessed from a district-wide timetable.

  1. Open Wychavon’s Bin Round Lookup.
Use the council service rather than an old screenshot, parish calendar or neighbouring property.
  2. Enter your full postcode.
Check the postcode carefully before selecting the address search.
  3. Select your exact address.
Do not assume every property in a postcode has identical collection details.
  4. Check which container is due.
Record both the collection date and whether it is the black, green or another registered service.
  5. Save the result.
Wychavon’s Bin Hub also provides options for reminders, calendar syncing and printable collection information.
Lookup unavailable? The council’s self-service system can occasionally be temporarily unavailable. If that happens, retry later or use Wychavon Client Services rather than guessing the next collection.

How the Wychavon Bin Calendar Works

For most households using wheelie bins, Wychavon operates two main alternating waste streams. The black bin is collected every two weeks and the green recycling bin is collected every two weeks, normally on the opposite week.

Week A Black general-waste bin.
Week B Green mixed-recycling bin.
Week A Black bin returns.
Week B Green bin returns.
This is the normal cycle, not a date calculator. Your collection weekday and any property-specific variation should still be confirmed through the official address lookup.

Residents can also use the Wychavon Bin Hub to view a collection calendar, print it, sync collection information to a device calendar or request reminders. Service alerts can be used for disruptions such as extreme weather, roadworks or other unexpected problems.

Wychavon Bin Colours: Black, Green and Brown

BLACK

General household waste

The standard black wheelie bin is used for household rubbish that cannot go into the green recycling stream. Under the current household setup, ordinary food waste also goes through the residual-waste system.

Standard size: 180 litres.

Normal frequency: every two weeks.

GREEN

Mixed recycling

The green wheelie bin is Wychavon’s main mixed-recycling container. Accepted recycling should be clean and placed loose in the bin rather than inside black sacks or carrier bags.

Standard size: 240 litres.

Normal frequency: every two weeks.

BROWN

Garden waste subscription

The optional brown wheelie bin is part of Wychavon’s chargeable garden-waste service. It is separate from the normal black-and-green household collection.

Size: 240 litres.

Normal frequency: fortnightly.

What Goes in the Green Recycling Bin?

Wychavon’s 2026 service continues to use one green bin for mixed dry recycling. From 31 March 2026, clean aluminium foil and accepted plastic tubes were added to the household recycling stream.

Common accepted recycling

  • Aerosols when empty
  • Clean aluminium foil
  • Accepted aluminium and plastic tubes
  • Food and drink cans
  • Cartons such as Tetra Paks
  • Glass bottles and jars
  • Paper and cardboard
  • Plastic bottles
  • Plastic pots, tubs and trays

Keep these out

  • Food waste
  • Garden waste
  • Nappies
  • Black plastic packaging
  • Carrier bags
  • Polystyrene
  • Electrical items
  • Batteries
  • Textiles placed inside the bin
Extra recycling: if your green bin is full, Wychavon allows additional accepted recycling to be presented in a clear sack next to the recycling bin. Residents producing a lot of recycling can also request an additional green bin through the council’s waste-services form.
Do not bag the recycling inside the green bin. Wychavon requires mixed recycling to be clean and loose. A contaminated recycling bin may be left unemptied.

Wychavon Black-Bin Rules

The normal black bin is a 180-litre container for non-recyclable household rubbish. It is collected fortnightly, alternating with the green recycling bin.

Waste must fit inside

The lid should close. Wychavon does not normally collect extra general rubbish left beside or on top of the black bin.

Cooled ash only

Hot ash and hot barbecue waste must never be placed in a collection bin. If cooled ash is disposed of through the residual bin, the council says it should be bagged first.

Keep hazardous material out

Batteries, electrical items, construction waste, paint, chemicals, oil, asbestos and sharps need an appropriate specialist or recycling route rather than being placed inside the black bin.

Use the council container

Wychavon states that normal collections use bins supplied or specified by the council. Containers remain council property.

Batteries, Small Electrical Items and Textiles

Some useful recycling is collected on the same day as the black bin, but these items should be kept separate rather than placed inside either normal wheelie bin.

Special kerbside presentation on black-bin collection day
Item How to present it Important point
Batteries Place in a small plastic bag on top of the black bin. Do not put loose batteries inside either wheelie bin.
Small electrical items Present separately on top of or alongside the black bin. Items must meet the council’s small-electrical collection rules.
Clean, dry textiles Place in a secure plastic bag to protect them from rain. Do not put textiles loose inside the recycling bin.
Battery-fire risk: batteries and electrical equipment should never be hidden inside normal household waste or recycling. Damaged batteries can create fires in collection vehicles and waste facilities.

Is Wychavon Collecting Food Waste Separately in 2026?

No separate weekly household food-waste collection has started across Wychavon. The council says the planned service has been delayed and is now expected to begin from April 2028 under future waste-service arrangements.

Until a new service is formally introduced for your property, ordinary household food waste continues through the existing residual-waste arrangement. Do not buy or use an unofficial food-waste container because a national rule suggests another council may already have changed its service.

2026 recycling change: Wychavon kept the existing black-and-green container system when the newer Simpler Recycling requirements took effect. Clean aluminium foil and accepted plastic tubes are now included in the green recycling stream, while separate household food-waste collection remains delayed.

Wychavon Collection-Day Rules: Avoid an Unnecessary Miss

Ready by 7am

Put the correct bin at the collection point by 7am on the scheduled day.

Use the property boundary

Present the container at the boundary nearest the public highway unless the council has agreed a different arrangement.

Close the lid

An overfilled bin with a lid that will not close may be left behind.

Remove contamination

A green recycling bin containing incorrect material may not be collected.

No ordinary side waste

Extra general rubbish beside the black bin is not normally collected.

Bring bins back in

Wychavon’s collection conditions say wheeled bins should be returned inside the property boundary after collection rather than being stored on the public highway.

Wychavon Bin Not Collected? Check These Things First

If your bin remains full, first establish whether it was genuinely missed. An incorrect collection day, late presentation, wrong bin, contamination or a rejection sticker can explain why a collection did not happen.

  1. Check that the bin was actually due.
Use Wychavon’s Bin Round Lookup and select the correct property.
  2. Confirm it was out by 7am.
The container should have been at the required boundary collection point.
  3. Check that the correct bin was presented.
Black and green collections normally alternate.
  4. Look for a sticker or obvious contamination.
If the crew identified a problem, correct it before expecting another normal collection.
  5. Report a genuine missed collection.
Use Wychavon’s Waste and Recycling self-service form and select the missed-collection option.
  6. Leave the reported bin available.
Wychavon says a successfully reported missed bin is normally revisited the same working day or the next working day. The bin needs to remain available for that return.
Useful detail: after a valid missed-bin report, Wychavon says the crew will normally return the same working day or the next working day. If there is a specific reason the bin was not emptied, the service team may contact you.

Homes Using Wychavon Sack Collections

Some properties cannot use normal wheelie bins because collection-vehicle access is unsuitable. Those homes can operate on council-issued black general-waste sacks and clear recycling sacks instead.

Black sacks

Eligible sack properties receive black sacks for general rubbish and food waste. Wychavon states that these are collected weekly and normally limits presentation to two council-issued black sacks per week.

Clear recycling sacks

Clear recycling sacks are collected fortnightly. On the recycling week, eligible properties can present additional clear recycling sacks as allowed by the council.

Wychavon currently states that annual sack deliveries provide 52 black general-waste sacks and 40 clear recycling sacks. Additional clear recycling sacks can be obtained through specified Community Contact Centres.

Glass exception: glass bottles and jars must not be placed in black or clear sacks because of collection-safety risks. Sack-service households should use an appropriate recycling bank or Household Recycling Centre for glass.

Extra, Smaller, Larger or Replacement Bins

Extra green recycling bin

Households creating substantial amounts of accepted recycling can ask the council for an additional green recycling bin through the waste-services form.

Different black-bin size

The standard black bin is 180 litres. Smaller bins can be considered where less capacity is needed or access is difficult. A larger 240-litre black bin is restricted to households meeting the council’s criteria.

Lost or damaged bin

Request a replacement through the same waste-services portal. Wychavon warns that a charge may apply to a lost, stolen or damaged container.

Help Putting Your Bin Out

Residents who cannot move bins or sacks to the normal collection point because of age or disability can ask Wychavon about an assisted collection.

If approved, collection staff retrieve the container from an agreed location. That point needs to be accessible and should not require crews to negotiate steps, steep slopes, deep gravel or other obstructions. An officer may visit the property to discuss the practical arrangement.

Wychavon Garden Waste Collection

Wychavon operates a separate paid garden-waste service using a 240-litre brown wheelie bin. The current service is collected every fortnight throughout the year.

Moving home? Existing garden-waste customers moving within Wychavon should contact the council so the subscription and brown-bin arrangements can be updated. Different rules apply when leaving the district.

Wychavon Bulky Waste Collection

Wychavon provides a paid household bulky-item collection across the district. Current charges effective from 1 April 2026 include £25 for a collection of two standard items. Certain larger or specialist items can be charged separately at £50 each.

Put items outside

Items must be outside the property and as close as reasonably possible to the highway. Crews do not normally collect from inside the home.

Ready by 7am

Booked items should be available from 7am. The council states that collection can take place between 7am and 5pm.

Fridge/freezer pause

Wychavon currently says fridges, freezers and other cooling appliances are temporarily unavailable through its bulky-waste collection service because of national processing difficulties.

Upholstered seating such as sofas and armchairs may need to be collected separately from other booked items because of rules applying to Persistent Organic Pollutants. Items should also be accessible and capable of being lifted safely by two people.

Bank Holidays, Christmas and Collection Disruptions

Wychavon says normal bin collections continue on most bank holidays. Christmas Day and the New Year period can involve changes, so festive collection dates should be checked against the current council calendar rather than copied from a previous year.

Most bank holidays

Normal collections generally continue.

Christmas / New Year

Check the Address Before Putting the Bin Out

The easiest Wychavon routine is simple: check the property calendar, identify whether black or green is due, make sure the contents are correct and have the container at the required boundary by 7am.

If a scheduled bin remains unemptied, check for contamination, presentation problems or a crew sticker before submitting a missed-collection report.
