Slough Bin Collection Calendar: Find Your Exact Day & Correct Bin
Slough does not use one collection date for the whole borough. Grey rubbish, red recycling and subscribed green garden bins are normally collected every two weeks, while food waste is collected weekly. Your road determines the exact weekday and Week A or Week B pattern.
The fastest route is to search Slough Borough Council’s official bin-day directory using your road name, open the correct road result and then select the grey, red or green calendar that applies to your property.
Slough Bin Collection: Answer First
Search by road name rather than trying to calculate your collection from the town, postcode district or a neighbour’s routine. Slough Borough Council tells residents to enter a keyword from the road name, without a house number or house name. The result identifies the road and links to the relevant grey, red and green collection calendars.
Grey general rubbish and red recycling are normally fortnightly. Green garden waste is also fortnightly but only for subscribed households. Food waste is collected every week on the same normal collection day as the property’s red or grey service.

How to Find Your Slough Bin Collection Day
Slough’s directory works differently from a simple postcode-only checker. Start with the road name, find the correct road entry and then open the calendar link for the waste stream you need.
-
Open Slough Borough Council’s bin-day directory.
Use the council page rather than relying on a generic repeating phone reminder. -
Type the main keyword from your road name.
For example, the council uses “Bath” as the search term for Bath Road. -
Do not enter the house number or house name.
Also remove any accidental trailing space after the road keyword if the search is not working. -
Select the correct road or address group.
Similar road names can appear, so read the result rather than selecting the first match. -
Open the relevant grey, red or green calendar.
The linked page gives the actual dates associated with that collection pattern. -
Save the colour and date together.
Record “red recycling — Tuesday 29 September”, rather than only saving “Tuesday”.
How the Slough Bin Collection Calendar Works
Slough has many collection schedules. The council publishes Week A and Week B date pages for different weekdays, which is why a single borough-wide list cannot safely tell every resident what to put out next.
Grey rubbish calendar
Your road result links to the correct grey-bin weekday and Week A or Week B schedule.
Red recycling calendar
The red-bin calendar is separate. Do not infer its dates by simply adding 14 days to an old grey-bin collection.
Green garden calendar
The green-bin dates apply only where the household has an active garden-waste subscription.
Slough Bin Colours: Grey, Red, Green and Food Caddy
General rubbish
For non-recyclable household rubbish after recycling and food have been separated.
Mixed recycling
For accepted clean, dry and loose paper, card, glass, cans and suitable plastic containers.
Garden waste
For accepted garden material when the household has paid for the annual subscription.
Food waste
Collected every week from houses and flats using the appropriate individual or communal food container.
| Container | Use it for | Typical frequency | Important warning |
|---|---|---|---|
| Grey bin | General non-recyclable household rubbish. | Every 2 weeks. | Food waste now has a separate weekly service. |
| Red bin | Accepted clean, dry and loose household recycling. | Every 2 weeks. | Do not bag the recycling. |
| Food caddy | Raw and cooked food waste. | Weekly. | Keep food packaging out. |
| Green bin | Accepted garden waste. | 25 fortnightly collections per annual subscription. | Collection requires an active paid subscription. |
What Goes in the Slough Red Recycling Bin?
Slough requires red-bin recycling to be clean, dry and loose. Putting recycling inside a sack or contaminating the bin can cause the whole container to be rejected.
Yes — red bin
- Drink cans and metal food tins
- Glass jars and bottles with lids
- Flattened cardboard boxes and packaging
- Plastic bottles
- Paper, newspapers, magazines and catalogues
- Clean plastic pots, tubs and trays
- Clean plant pots
- Toilet and kitchen-roll cardboard tubes
No — keep these out
- Plastic bags, film and cling film
- Batteries
- Food or garden waste
- Nappies
- Polystyrene
- Shredded or tissue paper
- Food-stained pizza boxes
- Takeaway drink cups
- Tetrapak-style milk, soup and juice cartons
Slough Food Waste Is Now Collected Weekly
Weekly food-waste recycling is now available across Slough. Houses normally use an indoor caddy plus a larger outdoor caddy. Flats can use an indoor caddy with either an individual outdoor caddy or a shared communal food-waste bin, depending on the building.
Collection frequency
Food waste is collected every week on the same normal collection day as the property’s red or grey bin.
Any ordinary bag can line it
The council says special compostable liners are not required. An ordinary suitable bag can be used inside the kitchen caddy.
Put it out the night before
Food waste is collected by a separate crew, so its arrival time may differ from the wheelie-bin vehicle.
| Food caddy | Examples |
|---|---|
| Yes | Meat, fish, bones, fruit, vegetables, peelings, bread, cake, cheese, yoghurt, eggshells, tea bags, coffee grounds and leftovers. |
| No | Food packaging, flowers, garden waste and pet waste. |
Collection Morning: The 6am Rule
If your bin is scheduled for collection, have it correctly presented by 6am. Slough’s missed-bin guidance says the container should be visible and accessible by the pavement without obstructing pedestrians or vehicles.
By 6am
Do not wait for the vehicle’s usual arrival time. Routes can change.
Lid fully closed
An overflowing container with an open lid can be rejected.
Accessible position
Keep the collection point visible and free from avoidable obstruction.
No side waste
Extra bags, boxes or rubbish placed beside or on top of the bin are not collected.

Slough Bin Not Collected? Check These Before Reporting It
A bin can be left because the service was genuinely missed or because it was rejected. The distinction matters because contamination, late presentation, excess weight or an open lid normally needs to be corrected rather than reported as a council-side miss.
-
Confirm the bin was due.
Check the road directory and the exact grey, red, green or food-waste calendar. -
Check the 6am presentation rule.
The container should have been ready and accessible before the collection round. -
Check the lid and weight.
The lid must close. Bins above the council’s 30kg limit can be rejected. -
Look for a contamination flyer.
A notice on the bin handle normally means incorrect material was found. -
Check for extra rubbish.
Side waste or rubbish balanced on top of the container is not part of the standard collection. -
Report a genuine miss after 7pm.
Missed communal, grey, red, green and food-waste collections should be reported after 7pm on collection day and within two working days.
Green Garden Waste Bin: Current Slough Subscription
Green-bin collection is optional and subscription-based. Slough Borough Council currently charges £55 per year, covering 25 fortnightly collections. There is no green-bin collection during the two-week Christmas suspension.
Annual subscription
Covers 25 garden-waste collections, normally every two weeks.
Green bin if needed
If the property does not already have a council-issued green bin, the council currently lists a £52 charge for one.
Pension Credit condition
The council lists a 50% subscription discount where the sole occupiers of the property receive Pension Credit.
Accepted garden waste
- Grass cuttings
- Leaves
- Small plants and weeds
- Hedge and shrub trimmings
- Twigs and small branches
- Bark and cut flowers
Keep these out
- Food waste
- Pet waste
- Plastic bags and liners
- General rubbish
- Stone, concrete and construction waste
- Large logs, branches and stumps
Flats and Communal Food-Waste Collections
Flats are included in Slough’s food-waste service, but the container setup can differ from a house. Smaller blocks can have individual outdoor food caddies, while larger developments can use communal 140-litre food-waste bins.
Inside the flat
Use the indoor caddy to collect food scraps. Tie the liner or bag before transferring the waste outside.
Outside the building
Use the designated individual or communal food-waste container. Do not leave food waste on the ground beside the communal bins.
Overflowing Bin or Extra Bags Beside It?
Slough Borough Council does not collect ordinary excess rubbish left beside or on top of the wheelie bin. The bin lid should close completely.
Grey bin full
Remove food waste and accepted red-bin recycling first. Store suitable non-perishable rubbish safely until the next collection if necessary.
Cardboard overflowing
Flatten accepted cardboard so the material fits inside the red bin without preventing the lid from closing.
Too much household waste
Use an appropriate household recycling centre or bulky-waste service rather than leaving additional bags at the kerb.
Sofa, Mattress or Large Item? Use the Bulky-Waste Route
Large household items should not be left beside a normal wheelie bin. Slough currently applies a minimum bulky-waste collection charge of £54. For ordinary bulky items, the listed rate is £19 per item with a maximum of five items per collection, subject to the minimum charge.
1 item
The £54 minimum charge currently applies even where the individual item rate would be lower.
Up to 5 ordinary items
Count items carefully. A mattress and bed base, for example, count separately.
Fridge/freezer notice
The council currently displays a temporary suspension notice affecting fridge/freezer collection or acceptance. Check the live page before paying or travelling.

Best Next Step: Find the Road Before Counting Fortnights
Slough’s collection system is simple once the correct road schedule has been identified: grey rubbish and red recycling are normally fortnightly, food waste is weekly, and green garden waste is fortnightly for subscribed properties.
Open the council directory, search the road, select the correct calendar and save the bin colour with the date. On collection day, make sure the container is ready by 6am.
Independent guide: BinCollectionGuide.org is not Slough Borough Council. Exact collection records, payments, missed-bin reports, temporary disruptions and recycling-centre availability are controlled by the council and should be confirmed through the relevant official service before acting.
