Check Your Redbridge Bin Day
Most Redbridge homes have weekly rubbish and recycling, but food waste is still being rolled out and some roads use a different recycling schedule. Check your exact address before putting containers out.
Redbridge collection essentials
Use Redbridge Council’s official Recycling and Rubbish checker, enter your street or postcode and choose the exact property. That property record is safer than relying on a borough-wide timetable because food-waste eligibility, garden dates and some recycling arrangements vary.
How to check your Redbridge collection date
Redbridge does not have one safe bin-day answer for every home in a postcode. Use the official property record before deciding which container or caddy to present.
Open the council checker
Use Redbridge’s official Recycling and Rubbish lookup rather than a previous screenshot or a third-party timetable.
Enter the full postcode or street
The search identifies available Redbridge property records.
Select the exact property
Choose the correct house or flat rather than assuming every property in the postcode shares the same service.
Check each waste stream
Confirm rubbish, recycling and garden waste. Food waste appears only where the property has joined the rollout.
Recheck holiday periods
Temporary bank-holiday and festive arrangements can override the normal weekday.
Redbridge household collection schedule
| Service | Typical frequency | Presentation | Important exception |
|---|---|---|---|
| Domestic rubbish | Weekly | Council wheelie bin, lid closed, ready by 6am | Sack-service and above-shop homes can follow different rules. |
| Kerbside recycling | Weekly for most | Two recycling boxes or approved alternative containers | Eastern Avenue and Woodford Avenue use fortnightly recycling wheelie bins. |
| Food waste | Weekly when active | Outdoor caddy at boundary by 6am | The rollout is still property-specific. |
| Garden waste | Fortnightly in season | Up to five open sacks at boundary by 6am | Property eligibility applies. |
| Bulky waste | Booked service | Only pre-booked items at the agreed location | One free booking per rolling 12 months. |
Food waste is still being rolled out
Redbridge began Phase 1 of separate food-waste collection on 24 November 2025 with around 10,000 houses. From 14 September 2026, another 3,000 properties were added.
Phase 1 began
Around 10,000 houses entered the first weekly food-waste collection area.
New equipment distribution
Letters and food-waste equipment started reaching properties joining the expanded phase.
3,000 more homes
Collections began for the additional properties.
Further information due
The council says households outside Phase 1 will receive information about their future service.
When your property joins
Food waste is collected weekly. Put the outdoor caddy at the property boundary by 6am.
Equipment
Eligible households receive a kitchen caddy, introductory liners, an outdoor caddy and instructions.
Accepted food
Fruit, vegetables, bread, meat, bones, fish, dairy, eggshells, rice, pasta, tea bags and coffee grounds can be included.
Keep out
Do not add liquid fats, oils, garden waste, animal bedding, packaging or liquids such as milk.
Eastern and Woodford Avenue recycling
Suitable houses on Eastern Avenue and Woodford Avenue use a different recycling arrangement from the standard two-box weekly system.
Recycling wheelie bin
Recycling is normally collected every two weeks on Monday, subject to temporary holiday changes.
Domestic rubbish
Normal household rubbish remains weekly.
No old-box overflow
Recycling must fit inside the supplied wheelie bin with the lid closed.
Was your Redbridge collection genuinely missed?
A full container does not always mean the crew missed it. Check the date, service, container and presentation conditions first.
Likely genuine miss
The correct waste stream was due and properly presented, accessible and compliant, but remained uncollected.
Possible rejection
Wrong day, late presentation, contamination, side waste, an unsuitable container or access problems can prevent collection.
Check each Redbridge bank holiday separately
Do not assume that every bank holiday moves every collection exactly one day later. Redbridge publishes specific temporary schedules.
| Normal date | Revised collection |
|---|---|
| Monday 31 August | Tuesday 1 September |
| Tuesday 1 September | Wednesday 2 September |
| Wednesday 2 September | Thursday 3 September |
| Thursday 3 September | Friday 4 September |
| Friday 4 September | Saturday 5 September |
Redbridge recycling boxes in 2026
Most standard kerbside households still use two recycling boxes. A wider recycling-wheelie-bin rollout is planned from 2027, so do not switch containers unless your property has been moved to the new service.
Box 1 — containers
- Food tins and drinks cans
- Glass bottles and jars
- Plastic bottles
- Clean plastic pots, tubs and trays
- Empty aerosols
- Clean foil and trays
- Cartons and Tetra Paks
- Accepted clean plastic tubes
Box 2 — paper and card
- Paper
- Envelopes
- Thin card
- Thicker card cut or folded to fit
- Large cardboard flattened and presented neatly
Alternative presentation
Clear sacks, cardboard boxes or similar-sized storage boxes can be used for recycling. Black bags are not accepted.
Avoid unsuitable containers
Do not use a dustbin, moving crate or privately selected wheelie bin for the normal recycling-box service.
Redbridge garden waste in 2026
Eligible residential properties with their own gardens can use Redbridge’s free seasonal garden-waste service.
No annual subscription fee for the standard eligible service.
Collections run on a two-week cycle during the season.
Up to five visible open sacks per collection.
Put garden waste at the property boundary before collection.
| Round | Start | Published end |
|---|---|---|
| Week 1 | Monday 2 March 2026 | Friday 13 November 2026 |
| Week 2 | Monday 9 March 2026 | Friday 20 November 2026 |
Ordinary open sacks can be used
Open black refuse sacks are accepted. Large builders’ sacks are not suitable for this service.
Official green sacks
Redbridge green sacks are sold through libraries while stocks last. Proof of residency and purchase limits apply.
Flats, communal bins and above-shop homes
Normal house-and-wheelie-bin rules do not safely describe every Redbridge flat or communal property.
Communal developments
Use the labelled shared rubbish and recycling facilities assigned to your development.
Flats above shops
These properties use official red rubbish sacks instead of a normal household wheelie bin.
Above-shop recycling
Current council guidance directs affected residents to suitable on-street recycling facilities where kerbside recycling is not provided.
Replacement and larger Redbridge bins
| Container | Current charge | Key detail |
|---|---|---|
| Replacement wheelie bin | £20 | Lost, stolen or damaged household bin; delivery included. |
| Recycling box | £7.45 | Soft lid and delivery included. |
| Soft recycling-box lid | £1 | Available separately. |
| Rigid recycling-box lid | £3 | Optional separate lid. |
| Approved 240L larger bin | £20 | Eligibility and approval required. |
Standard bin
The normal Redbridge household wheelie bin is 180 litres.
Smaller bin
A 140-litre container can be requested where appropriate.
Larger bin
The 240-litre option requires council approval rather than simply purchasing extra capacity.
The council aims to deliver an approved replacement or different-sized bin within its published service timeframe, although eligibility checks can extend the process.
Assisted collections in Redbridge
Residents who cannot safely present rubbish or recycling without help may be able to use an assisted collection after assessment.
Possible circumstances
- Older age
- Ill health or infirmity
- Registered disability
- Short- or long-term illness
- Temporary post-surgery support
- Pregnancy where nobody can help
- Visual impairment
Household circumstances matter
The council can consider whether anyone else living at the address is able to present the containers.
Allow time for the council to assess an application before assuming assistance has started.
Redbridge bulky-waste collection
One eligible booking
One free bulky collection is available in each rolling 12-month period.
Items
The free booking covers up to three eligible items.
Additional item
Further chargeable collections are priced per item under the current service.
DIY waste is different
Building and DIY waste does not belong in the standard domestic bulky collection.
Some upholstered furniture needs separate handling
Certain sofas and upholstered furniture may require different handling because of persistent organic pollutant rules.
Batteries, electricals, sharps and offensive waste
Batteries and electricals
Do not place batteries or small electrical items in ordinary household rubbish or standard recycling.
Offensive household waste
Redbridge provides a separate domestic service for specified non-infectious healthcare waste.
Yellow-lid sharps boxes
Use the council’s designated route for eligible yellow-lid sharps containers.

Simpler Recycling changes in Redbridge
From 31 March 2026, Redbridge expanded accepted household recycling materials in line with England’s Simpler Recycling requirements. Food-waste collection is being introduced through a phased local rollout rather than appearing at every property at once.
2026 material changes
Accepted streams include paper and card, glass, metals, specified plastics and cartons under the current local system.
2027 recycling-bin rollout
Redbridge plans wider recycling wheelie-bin changes from 2027. Continue using the containers assigned to your property until the council tells you otherwise.
