Biffa’s new waste and street-cleansing contract began on 1 June 2026 with redesigned routes, new vehicles and new technology.
Collection day stayed the same
Wokingham says the majority of residents were not given a new collection day.

Affected households were contacted directly about their revised route or collection day.
Narrow-lane service changed
Some homes moved from weekly blue general-waste bags to the standard alternating black-bin/green-recycling pattern.
Garden routes changed
Some garden-waste subscribers were also given revised collection days.

An old schedule can still have the correct weekday but the wrong alternating waste stream. Re-run the address checker.

Older official calendars cover August 2025 to May 2026 and therefore cannot answer October 2026.

The post-June address checker is the correct route for October dates.
The June route change means counting forward from a May PDF can give the wrong result even when the usual weekday appears unchanged.
Wokingham Bin Collection 2026 Times: When to Put Waste Out
By 6:30am
Put rubbish, recycling and food waste at the correct collection point before crews arrive.
By 5:30am
Bank-holiday collections start one hour earlier.
Do not rely on yesterday’s time
The service standards allow collections between 5:30am and 4pm and say collection times are not guaranteed.
Remove containers within 24 hours
The published service standards ask residents not to leave containers permanently at the collection point.
Where exactly should containers go?

- Normally at the front of the home.
- Clearly visible to the crew.
- Without blocking pedestrians, wheelchairs or pushchairs.

Wokingham Bin Collection Bank Holiday Rules in 2026
Wokingham normally keeps ordinary bank-holiday collections on the scheduled day but starts at 5:30am. Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day are exceptions and use festive arrangements.

Wokingham Bin Collection Missed: Exact Current Process
A container left behind is not automatically a missed collection. First rule out incorrect presentation, contamination, weight, access and subscription problems.
Confirm the address and date
Re-run the collection checker if your route may have changed after 1 June 2026.
Check the presentation time
Normal day: 6:30am. Bank holiday: 5:30am.
Check the container and contents
It must be a council-approved container, not too heavy, with the lid closed and correct material inside.
Check garden subscription status
An unpaid garden-waste container is not treated as a normal missed subscribed collection.
Report by the end of the next working day
This is the current missed-collection reporting deadline on Wokingham’s live page.
Leave the waste out after a valid report
If no valid reason is found, the current council page says the crew will return by the end of the next working day after your report.
The older service-standard document allowed a two-working-day return target. The current 1 June 2026 missed-bin page says a valid missed collection will be removed by the end of the next working day after reporting.
Correct the problem and wait until the next scheduled collection unless the council specifically tells you otherwise.
Why Was My Wokingham Bin Not Collected?
Wokingham Black Bin: Fortnightly General Waste
Most properties use a 180-litre black wheeled bin, normally collected every two weeks.
About two full rubbish bags
The standard black bin is intended for household waste that cannot be reused, recycled or composted.
Everything must fit inside
Rubbish beside or on top of the bin is not normally collected unless it is in a specifically authorised WBC bag.

Heavy or overflowing containers can be left for safety reasons.

Glass is not currently accepted in green bags. Wokingham says kerbside glass is planned for 2027.

Wokingham Blue Bag Collection: Who Still Uses It?
Some properties still use weekly blue general-waste bags where there is not enough storage for a wheeled bin or the standard refuse vehicle cannot access the road.

Eligible properties receive 54 council-issued 90-litre blue bags.

The council recommends using around one blue bag per week.

Do not automatically leave extra bags beside the bin. Wokingham asks residents to use recycling and food-waste capacity first, then apply for extra capacity if the household consistently needs it.

- Subscription must be active.
- Bin or sacks must be clearly visible.
- Present by 6:30am normally.

- Keep the lid closed.
- Do not use plastic bags inside the garden bin.
- Use the agreed collection point.
Report by the end of the next working day after the scheduled collection. The garden PDF says a genuine missed garden collection should be completed within two working days of the report.
Do not compact material. Loosen it before collection and shelter the bin where possible. If contents remain frozen, the crew may be unable to empty the bin safely.

Only official compostable Wokingham brown sacks are accepted.

Approved bins can be collected from the doorstep or another safe agreed point at the front.
Maximum distance
The agreed collection point cannot be more than 25 metres from the kerbside.

The current replacement charge is £38.50. Wokingham says replacements are delivered within ten working days. A damaged old container must be left empty, visible and at the collection point when the replacement arrives.
Put the house name or number on the bin to reduce the chance of it being moved to another property.
Private Roads, Rural Lanes and Collection Access
The household service standards explain why a rural or private road may use a different collection point when a full-size vehicle cannot safely travel along it.
Vehicle access matters
The road must have adequate unobstructed width for the collection vehicle.
Overhead clearance
Low branches, cables and other obstructions can make a route unsafe.
Dead ends need turning space
The collection vehicle must be able to turn without unsafe reversing.
Potholes can affect service
An unsafe road surface can lead to a collection point being moved to a public highway.
The policy says the council will, where possible, give at least ten working days’ notice when it changes a private-road collection location.
Wokingham Bulky Waste Collection: Current 2026 Rules
The current service costs £72 for up to three large household items and up to three small electrical or battery-operated items.
