Find the right bin by decoding Day + Round A/B + Week
Thurrock bin collection is not solved by knowing only your weekday. For the standard wheeled-bin service, you also need to know whether your street is Round A or Round B.
This page shows exactly what to open, what to write down, how to read the A/B weekly table and what to do when a collection, container, garden permit or disposal trip goes wrong.

Do these in order. You should know exactly what to put out before opening any report or payment form.

After opening the Thurrock collection page, do this
Open “Your household waste and recycling collection services”
For the normal wheeled-bin service, Thurrock provides an alphabetical street list. The council also provides property schedule lookup routes for relevant residential services.
If using the street list, choose the first letter
Do not search by town alone. Choose the first letter of the street name, then find the exact street and town combination.
Write down the weekday
This tells you when the vehicle normally visits the street.
Write down Round A or Round B
This is just as important as the weekday. Without the round, you still do not know which main bin is due.
Open “Household bin collection weeks”
Find the week containing your collection date and look across to the A or B column.
Add the weekly food collection
Food waste is collected every week, so it does not wait for either the blue or green/grey fortnight.
Balfour Road, Grays
The council street list currently identifies this as Thursday • Round A. A resident must still open the week table to see which Round A bin is due.
Balmoral Avenue
The council lists Balmoral Avenue in Corringham and Stanford-le-Hope with different rounds. Matching only the street name can give you the wrong answer.
Save the useful information: instead of “bins Thursday”, save something like “Thursday • Round A”. Then check only the current A/B week when you need the colour.
Bag-only or communal property? Stop before applying the normal street A/B schedule. Those services can use a separate collection arrangement. Use the sections further down this guide.

You found “Round A” or “Round B” — what does it mean?
Round A this week
If the live table says Blue and Brown, put out blue recycling and a permitted brown garden bin.
If it says Green / Grey, put out general waste.
Round B this week
Round B receives the opposite main-bin stream to Round A.
The streams switch again the following week.
Blue week
Blue recycling goes out. If your household pays for garden waste, the valid-permit brown bin goes out on the same collection day.
Green / grey week
The general non-recyclable household waste bin goes out.
Every single week
Food waste is collected weekly on the normal collection day.

Thurrock accepts household bottles and jars in blue recycling.
These are not part of the normal blue-bin accepted list.
Do not treat these as recyclable bottle glass.
Use the food-waste container where the household has received one.
Thurrock currently directs residents to put food waste into the green/grey bin, wrapped in newspaper or kitchen paper towel, until the food bin arrives.
Food-bin detail people often miss: place food in a food-caddy liner, tie the liner and then put it in the outdoor food bin. Thurrock says not to put loose food waste directly into the food bin.
What to do with a doubtful item: search the item in Thurrock’s A–Z before putting it into a full recycling bin.
What extra waste can go beside the bin?
Put most extra accepted recycling into clear or white plastic bags beside the blue bin.
Flatten it and place it beside the blue bin.
Keep it safely inside the blue wheeled bin rather than an extra side bag.
Green/grey side waste is not covered by the extra-recycling allowance.
Garden side waste is not collected as part of the normal brown-bin service.

Bin still full? Do not report it until these checks pass
Recheck your weekday, Round A/B and the current weekly table.
A late container can be treated as not correctly presented.
Contaminated bins can be deliberately left rather than genuinely missed.
Where the closed-lid rule applies, excess waste can prevent collection.
The tag explains why the crew did not empty it. Remove the problem and wait for the next scheduled collection unless other council instructions apply.
Bad parking, traffic, tipping-site delays, snow, ice, flooding or vehicle failure can interrupt a round.
Missed-bin reporting deadline by normal weekday
These examples assume there is no intervening public holiday. Thurrock counts working days Monday to Friday.
Public holiday? Do not use the examples above blindly. Thurrock says public-holiday changes can alter the normal working-day calculation.
Check Day + Round + week
Make sure the correct waste type was scheduled.
Confirm presentation
Correct container, approved collection point and before 6am.
Inspect the container
Check wrong contents, excess waste, lid position and any tag or sticker.
Allow the normal collection day to run
Different waste streams can arrive at different times.
Submit the official report
Do this before midnight on the second working day after the due date.
What happens next: Thurrock says it will return within two working days after receiving a valid missed-collection report.
Decision: correct schedule + correct presentation + no rejection reason + within deadline = report it.
What happens after you decide to join the garden service?
Full annual 2026/27 subscription charge.
Additional annual fortnightly collection.
Current council delivery target for the sticker and instructions.
No seasonal pause
The council says the service continues through Christmas and New Year this subscription year.

Use the 2026/27 subscription link rather than a generic waste form.
Choose how many brown bins need collection
The first subscribed bin is £80; each additional subscribed brown bin is £50.
Pay the full amount online
The annual amount is paid upfront by debit or credit card.
Wait for the property-specific permit
The sticker and instructions should normally arrive within 10 working days.
Attach the permit exactly as instructed
The permit is unique to the property. Thurrock only collects subscribed brown bins displaying a valid permit.
Put brown out on blue-bin week
Use your normal day and the Round A/B schedule. Brown follows blue.
Joining late does not reduce the subscription: Thurrock states the start/end dates remain the same and the full annual amount is payable even if you subscribe midway through the year.
Brown-bin collection missed across your street? Thurrock says it will return on the next working day. For a normal Friday collection, that is generally Monday.
Moving within Thurrock?
The subscription-management route includes information for transferring a garden subscription to another property within the borough.
Permit lost?
Use the garden-subscription management route to deal with replacement-permit requests.
Do not want the service?
Home compost, take garden waste to Linford, keep the old brown bin for storage, or request removal where applicable.
Lost or damaged bin? Pick the correct request reason
Current standard charge where the occupier must replace it.
Current reduced charge.
Proof of entitlement is required.
For additional recycling capacity.
Thurrock says bins damaged or lost because of collection operations are replaced without charge.
The property occupier is normally responsible for replacement.
One new food caddy is currently free per eligible household.

Do not pay for a standard wheelie bin if the actual need is a free food container or second blue recycling bin.

Thurrock says it will contact you to take payment where a charge applies.
Delivery note: Thurrock currently warns that requests for additional recycling bins are taking around 4–6 weeks.

Where can the crew collect?
Suitable locations at the front of the property, such as the front garden or outside the front door.
Where will they not collect?
Back gardens, garages and sheds are excluded from the assisted wheeled-bin collection route.

The council says eligibility is normally checked within 10 working days.
How long does it last?
An accepted assisted arrangement can run for up to two years before renewal is needed.

Use the assisted-bin application rather than a missed-bin form.
Confirm both eligibility conditions
You cannot present the bins because of disability or illness, and nobody aged 16+ in the household can physically do it.
Explain the front collection location
The council needs a practical location the crew can safely use.
Wait for the eligibility decision
Allow up to 10 working days under the council’s current guidance.
Best use: if getting the bin to the kerb is the recurring problem, solve that problem instead of repeatedly filing missed-bin reports.
Do not use the normal A/B wheelie-bin schedule if your property is bag-only
No. Thurrock decides which properties need this service for operational and safety reasons.
Residents cannot simply request a switch between the bag-only and standard wheeled-bin services.
Recycling and non-recycling bag collections take place on opposite weeks.
Food waste remains weekly.
Bagged waste must still be at the approved point from 6am on its scheduled day.

Do not put items out days early. Collection can take place between 6am and 3pm.
Communal bin area? Label the bulky items clearly with “Bulky Waste” and the number or name of your property.
Loose rubble or foliage? It must be securely bagged. Thurrock does not accept tonne or Hippo-style bags through this service.
Cancellation: cancel at least 14 calendar days in advance for a refund. Fewer than 14 days currently means no refund.
Decision: reusable → donate/reuse. Can transport it safely → Linford may be free. Need doorstep removal → use the paid bulky collection.
Linford tip: what to check before you load the car
Monday to Sunday except listed closures and special holiday hours.
Gates close 15 minutes before site closing.
Turn up during opening hours after checking the site rules.
Proof required
Take a recent Council Tax bill, utility bill or other accepted proof/permit showing a Thurrock address.
Car visit checklist
Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, Boxing Day, New Year’s Day, Good Friday and Easter Sunday are listed closures; New Year’s Eve has shorter hours.
Confirm the site accepts the exact waste type and check quantity limits where relevant.
Access is for Thurrock residents disposing of household waste.
Enter travelling north on Buckingham Hill Road from Linford. Thurrock says there is no right turn for vehicles travelling south from the A13 direction.
Stop at the sign, wait until staff direct you, park facing forwards and follow walkway controls.
Van or trailer? Stop and check this first
No advance booking is required under the current rules.
Eligible smaller vans require a valid household waste permit.
A permit is required, and trailers are only allowed to enter on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
These vehicle types are listed as prohibited from normal resident access.
Thurrock does not allow vehicles above this weight limit onto the site.
Permit planning: eligible small-van/trailer permits currently allow up to six visits in a 12-month period. Thurrock says to allow 14 working days for processing and delivery.
Trade waste is prohibited. Do not park a van outside the site and try to carry the waste in; the council specifically warns this can lead to refusal and reporting.
Do not start the journey until you have: opening check + accepted material + proof of address + correct vehicle/permit.
