Address not shown? Mansfield says the collection information is likely to be the same as neighbouring properties, but asks residents to email mdc@mansfield.gov.uk with the missing address so it can investigate. Treat a neighbour’s result as a temporary clue—not your permanent calendar.
Best reminder format: “Blue recycling — Thursday 3 September — put out Wednesday night.” Colour + date is safer than saving only a weekday.

Common error: glass must not be placed in Mansfield’s blue mixed-recycling bin. Thin plastic film, crisp packets, pet-food pouches, nappies, food waste, batteries, vapes and electrical items also need another route.
Fast material decision: accepted rigid packaging → blue; glass bottle/jar → teal; garden material → subscribed brown; genuine residual rubbish → green.
Six checks that prevent an avoidable failed collection
1. Confirm the date
Check the exact property and exact waste stream.
2. Present by 6am
Mansfield begins collections from 6am.
3. Put it on the pavement
Standard green and blue bins should be kerbside on the pavement and clearly visible, not hidden on a driveway or boundary.
4. Label the container
Put the house number or property name clearly on the bin.
5. Check the contents
Contaminated recycling can be rejected rather than treated as a missed collection.
6. Check the weight and lid
Do not overload or compact waste so tightly that the container cannot empty.
After collection: ordinary containers should be removed from the kerbside within 24 hours. Mansfield’s glass guidance specifically says the glass bin should be removed by 12 noon the following day.

Choose the correct return route
If Mansfield missed an eligible bin in error it says it will return free of charge. If presentation, contamination or loading caused the problem, a £13 return fee can apply after the issue is corrected.
Contact the council within 48 hours
Contact Mansfield District Council within 48 hours unless the live council page says the problem is already known, such as the current glass collection issue.
Moved into a home with the previous resident’s full green bin? Mansfield says the £13 fee applies if you want it emptied before its next scheduled collection.
Simple outcome: council/access problem → leave out/free return; presentation/content problem → fix it and choose £13 return or wait for the next scheduled round.
Teal-lidded glass bin: what residents often miss
The glass collection day can be different from your green and blue collection day.
Most properties use a black wheeled bin with a teal lid.
Accepted glass
Empty and clean bottles and jars, including suitable food, drink and toiletry containers.
Keep these out
Pyrex, mirrors, drinking glasses, vases, window glass, spectacles and light bulbs.
Current as of 28 August 2026: Mansfield says there is an ongoing issue with glass collections. Leave the bin out and the council will collect as soon as possible. It says residents do not need to report that known issue separately.
Do not move delayed glass into blue recycling. Keep using the separate glass container.
Mansfield garden waste 2026: price and late-sign-up decision
The contracted service year runs April to March.
Customers can currently have up to three additional garden bins.
New customers joining late still pay the full year’s charge.
Joining near the deadline?
You receive only the collections remaining before spring 2027. Mansfield currently recommends considering the 2027 window if better value matters.

Keep it clean
Food, mixed recycling and domestic household rubbish can cause the paid garden bin not to be collected.
Adding bins: Mansfield currently requires existing subscribers to pay for additional garden bins online by card. Quantity reductions do not receive refunds.
Before paying late: check how many collections remain and whether waiting for the next service year is better value.
Which extra-bin option matches your household?
Additional blue bins can be requested. Larger or additional blue bins are only supplied where the property does not have a contamination history.
Additional glass-recycling bins can be requested.
Households with six or more residents may qualify for an additional general-waste bin.
Extra garden bins are paid additions to the brown-bin subscription.
Need a different size rather than a second bin? Mansfield has an exchange form for green and blue bins. Its largest current green bin is 180L. Approved exchanges normally take up to 10 working days and replacement/exchange containers may be refurbished used bins.

Locked gate?
If the bin is stored behind a locked gate, leave the gate open from 6am. Mansfield says it cannot return where an assisted collection failed because the gate was locked.
Recurring mobility problem? Assisted collection deals with the presentation problem directly rather than creating repeated missed-bin situations.
Mansfield bulky waste: choose the correct category before booking
Up to 10 items in total.
Upholstered seating has a separate booking route.
Current electrical-waste status checked 28 August 2026: Mansfield’s bulky WEEE collection service has been temporarily suspended since 10 August 2026 because of treatment-facility backlogs. The council currently asks residents to store appliances such as fridges and freezers safely until the service resumes, or use an appropriately licensed private waste carrier if disposal cannot wait.
