Lincoln Bin Collection Days: Calendar, Bin Types & Schedule
For the correct Lincoln bin collection date, start with the City of Lincoln Council address checker. Enter your street name or postcode and use the schedule returned for your property rather than relying on a citywide calendar or a neighbour’s bin.
Lincoln households now also have a separate weekly food-waste service. This guide explains the black household-waste bin, brown recycling bin, green subscribed garden bin, food-waste caddies, presentation rules, missed collections and current 2026 service changes.
Lincoln Bin Collection: Quick Answer
Use City of Lincoln Council’s live bin-day service for your actual dates. The checker covers black household-waste bins or purple sacks, brown recycling bins or black boxes, subscribed green garden-waste bins and food-waste caddies.
Food waste is now collected weekly. For normal wheelie-bin collections, have the correct container ready by 6:30am. Do not predict a future date from an old screenshot, previous year’s calendar or another street.

How to Check Your Lincoln Bin Collection Day
The official City of Lincoln Council collection checker is the correct starting point for searches such as “Lincoln bin collection calendar”, “what bin is it this week?” or “Lincoln bin collection postcode”.
-
Open the official bin collection day service.
Use the council service rather than a saved social-media post or an old household calendar. -
Enter your street name or postcode.
Use the address where the bins are actually collected. -
Select the correct property.
This matters for flats, communal properties, sack collections and homes with subscribed garden waste. -
Read the date and container together.
Record both pieces of information, such as “brown recycling — Tuesday”, rather than remembering only the weekday. -
Check again around service changes or holidays.
Live collection information is safer than reusing a previous year’s dates.
Lincoln Bin Collection Schedule 2026
Lincoln’s collection system now combines the established household-waste and recycling rounds with a separate weekly food-waste collection. Garden waste is a paid opt-in service. The exact dates shown for the property should always take priority over a simplified citywide pattern.
| Container | Main purpose | Schedule guidance | Important check |
|---|---|---|---|
| Black bin / purple sack | General household rubbish | Use the address-specific council calendar | Keep food waste out now that the weekly caddy service is available. |
| Brown bin / black box | Clean, dry recycling | Use the address-specific council calendar | Incorrect items can contaminate the collection. |
| Food-waste caddy | Cooked and uncooked food waste | Weekly | For kerbside homes it is collected on the usual bin day, although the food vehicle may arrive at a different time. |
| Green garden bin | Subscribed garden waste | Every two weeks | A valid subscription sticker must be displayed correctly. |
Lincoln Bin Types: What Goes in Each Container?

Use the black wheelie bin, or purple sacks where that collection method applies, for non-recyclable household rubbish.
- Non-recyclable everyday rubbish
- Nappies and sanitary products
- Crisp and sweet wrappers
- Polystyrene
Mixed Recycling
The brown bin or black recycling box is for accepted clean and dry household recycling.
- Paper and card
- Glass bottles and jars
- Food and drink cans
- Plastic bottles and accepted containers
- Empty aerosol cans
Garden Waste
The green wheelie bin is part of Lincoln’s paid garden-waste service.
- Grass cuttings
- Leaves
- Hedge trimmings
- Flowers and weeds
- Small sticks within council limits

Use the indoor kitchen caddy and then transfer food waste to the outdoor black caddy with the orange lid.
- Meat and fish
- Fruit and vegetables
- Bread, rice and pasta
- Dairy products
- Plate scrapings
- Tea bags and coffee grounds
Lincoln Weekly Food-Waste Collection: What Changed in 2026?
Separate household food-waste collections started across the City of Lincoln in the week beginning 30 March 2026. The service is weekly and does not require a paid subscription.
5-litre kitchen caddy
This smaller container is used indoors to collect food scraps before they are transferred outside.
23-litre outdoor caddy
Most kerbside households use a black outdoor caddy with an orange lid for presentation on collection day.
Weekly collection
The outdoor caddy is collected every week on the usual bin collection day, but may be emptied by a different vehicle and at a different time.
Flats and communal properties
Properties using communal refuse and recycling systems may have a larger communal food-waste bin instead of an individual outdoor caddy. Communal food-waste collections are weekly, but they are not necessarily made on the same day as the other communal bins.
What can go in the food caddy?
Accepted food
- Raw or cooked meat and fish
- Bones and shells
- Fruit and vegetable peelings
- Bread and pastries
- Rice, pasta and beans
- Cheese and yoghurt
- Plate scrapings and leftovers
- Tea bags and coffee grounds
Keep packaging out
Food should be separated from packaging before it goes into the caddy. Do not use the outdoor caddy for ordinary rubbish.
Small amounts of cooking oil can be absorbed into solid food, but liquids should not simply be poured into the caddy.
Lincoln Bin Collection Time: Have Bins Ready by 6:30am
City of Lincoln Council advises residents to present bins by 6:30am on collection day. Collection vehicle times can move because of traffic, roadworks and route conditions, so the usual arrival time on your street is not a reliable deadline.
Close the lid
A bin with an open lid can be rejected because it may be unsafe for the lifting equipment and collection crew.
Do not overload it
A wheelie bin that is too heavy for the lifting equipment may be left until the excess weight is removed.
Use the right container
Contaminated recycling or garden waste can be rejected even when it was put out on the correct date.
Lincoln Brown Bin Recycling Rules
The brown wheelie bin, or black recycling box where boxes are used, is for clean and dry recyclable materials accepted through Lincoln’s household recycling system.
Common accepted recycling
- Clean paper and card
- Glass bottles and jars
- Metal food and drink cans
- Plastic bottles
- Accepted clear or light-coloured plastic containers
- Empty aerosol cans
Common items to keep out
- Clothing and bedding
- Soft toys
- Polystyrene
- Wood
- Food waste
- Electrical items and batteries
Lincoln Garden Waste Collection 2026/27
Green garden-waste bins are collected every two weeks throughout the year for subscribed households. The 2026/27 service runs to 30 June 2027.
| 2026/27 garden service | Current charge | Important detail |
|---|---|---|
| First subscribed green bin | £41 | Annual service charge. |
| Additional subscribed bin | £16 | Up to four bins per property under the current service. |
| New green bin delivery | £16 | Applies when a new garden-waste bin needs to be supplied. |
Garden-waste sticker rule
The subscription sticker is linked to the collection address and should be placed under the bin handles in the position instructed by the council. A green bin without the correct visible sticker may not be emptied.
Lincoln Bin Not Collected? Check These Points First
A bin can remain full for reasons other than a missed council round. Before reporting the collection, check the scheduled date and the common rejection reasons.
-
Confirm that the bin was actually due.
Reopen the official address checker and verify the container and date. -
Confirm it was presented by 6:30am.
A late bin may already have been passed by the crew. -
Check the lid and weight.
An overfilled or excessively heavy bin may be rejected. -
Look for contamination.
Incorrect material in a recycling, garden or food container can stop it being emptied. -
Check the collection point and access.
Make sure the container was available to the crew and not blocked. -
Report a genuine missed collection.
The council’s online form requires the address and postcode.
Why Lincoln Council May Leave a Bin Unemptied
Wrong material
Contamination can cause the crew to leave the container and mark or tag it.
Too heavy
The collection equipment must be able to lift the bin safely.
Lid not closed
An open lid can create risks for the bin, loading machinery and people nearby.
Presented late
The council does not have to return for a bin that was not available at the required time.
Assisted Bin Collections in Lincoln
An assisted collection can help a resident who cannot move bins to the normal collection point because of age, disability or illness and does not have another household member able to do it.
Approved assisted collections allow crews to collect the containers from their normal storage point and return them after emptying. The weekly food-waste caddy can also be included.
Information needed for an application
- Name, address and postcode of the person needing assistance
- Contact telephone number
- Reason assistance is required
- Where the bins are normally stored
- Details of steps or access difficulties
- Applicant details if applying for somebody else
Missing, Damaged or Additional Lincoln Bin
City of Lincoln Council provides an online request route for new, additional or replacement household containers. Have the property address, postcode, required bin type and reason for the request ready.
Black household-waste bin
Use the council request service for a new, additional or replacement black wheelie bin.
Brown recycling bin
Brown recycling containers can also be requested through the household bin service.
Lincoln Bulky Waste: Sofas, Furniture and Large Items
City of Lincoln Council provides a paid bulky-waste collection for residents who cannot take large household items to a Household Waste Recycling Centre. Some eligible residents can instead qualify for an assisted bulky collection.
Paid collection
The current minimum charge is £35.50 for items totalling up to six points.
Extra points
Additional points beyond the included six are currently charged at £4.65 per point.
Presentation
Paid bulky collections normally require items to be at the edge of the property by 7am on the booked collection day.
Electrical equipment and upholstered items may need to be carried separately because of WEEE and persistent-organic-pollutant handling rules.
Lincoln Household Waste Recycling Centre and the 2026 Booking Change

What will change when booking starts?
- Every household-waste visit will need an advance booking.
- Bookings will be free.
- Lincolnshire Council Tax households will still be able to use any Lincolnshire HWRC.
- Same-day slots are expected where capacity permits.
- Telephone booking will be available for people unable to book online.
Information expected for a booking
- Vehicle registration
- Postcode
- Email address or telephone number
- Permit details where required
Bank Holidays, Christmas and Changed Lincoln Bin Days
Do not assume that every Bank Holiday moves the collection by exactly one day. Christmas, New Year and operational disruptions can produce special arrangements, while other periods may follow the normal route.
Check your property
The address lookup is the first place to check for the date actually assigned to your home.
Recheck near Christmas
Do not reuse a December 2025 or January 2026 screenshot to predict the 2026/27 festive timetable.
Check council notices
Severe weather, road conditions or temporary service changes may affect individual rounds.

Lincoln Bin Collection FAQs
How do I check my Lincoln bin collection day?
Use City of Lincoln Council’s bin collection day service. Enter your street name or postcode, select the correct property and check which container is shown for the next collection.
What time should bins be out in Lincoln?
Bins should be presented by 6:30am on collection day. Do not rely on the vehicle arriving at the same time every week because routes can change.
What colour is the recycling bin in Lincoln?
The normal wheelie-bin recycling container is brown. Some properties use a black recycling box instead where a wheelie bin cannot be accommodated.
How often is food waste collected in Lincoln?
Food waste is collected weekly. The separate household service started in the week beginning 30 March 2026.
How much is Lincoln garden waste for 2026/27?
The current annual charge is £41 for the first subscribed green bin and £16 for each additional subscribed bin, up to the current service limit. A new green bin currently has a £16 delivery charge.
Why was my Lincoln bin not emptied?
Common reasons include putting the bin out late, contamination, excessive weight, an open lid or a presentation/access problem. Check the scheduled date and correct any issue before submitting a missed-bin report.
Can I leave extra rubbish next to my black bin?
Normal black-bin side waste is not collected. Recycling side waste has separate rules and should be properly prepared and clearly identifiable as recycling.
Do I need to book Lincoln recycling centre?
Not yet as of 19 September 2026. Lincolnshire County Council plans to introduce a booking system across its Household Waste Recycling Centres in autumn 2026, so check the live county council page before travelling.
Best Next Step: Check Your Exact Lincoln Address
Your collection schedule is most useful when the date and container are checked together. Open City of Lincoln Council’s live address service, select the property and note which bin or caddy is due.
Then make sure the container is correctly filled, closed and available by 6:30am. If a correctly presented bin is still missed, use the council’s reporting service rather than waiting for the next collection without checking.
