Hart Bin Collection 2026: Check Your Day, Calendar & Correct Bin

Hart household collection dates are linked to your property. Use Hart District Council’s postcode-based bin-day service to find the correct address and download the year-round calendar rather than guessing from another road or an old festive timetable.

For standard kerbside homes, black rubbish bins and blue recycling bins are each emptied every two weeks. Food waste is collected every week, glass is normally collected fortnightly in a separate box or approved container, and subscribed garden waste is also fortnightly.

Hart Bin Collection: 30-Second Answer

Use Hart District Council’s official “When is my bin day?” service, enter your postcode and select the exact property. The result gives your household collection day and year-round calendar.

Put the scheduled container at the collection point nearest the public highway by 6am. Standard black rubbish bins and blue recycling bins are collected every two weeks, food waste is weekly, and glass is collected separately every two weeks.

How to Check Your Hart Bin Collection Day

Hart does not publish one useful weekday that applies to every property across Fleet, Hook, Yateley, Hartley Wintney and the surrounding district. The quickest reliable route is the council’s property lookup.

  1. Open Hart District Council’s bin-day page.
Use the current council service instead of a screenshot, neighbour’s rota or an old Christmas schedule.
  2. Enter your postcode.
The search returns addresses connected with that postcode.
  3. Select the exact property.
This matters where nearby homes, flats or communal arrangements do not share the same collection setup.
  4. Read the container and date together.
Save “blue recycling — Tuesday” rather than only remembering the weekday.
  5. Download the year-round calendar if useful.
Recheck the live service if your collection arrangement changes or the council publishes a temporary disruption.
Best habit: bookmark the council checker. It is more reliable than keeping a static timetable when festive dates or operational changes temporarily alter normal collections.

Hart Bin Collection Schedule for 2026

The table below explains the normal household frequency. It does not replace the calendar attached to your address.

Container Main use Normal frequency Important detail
Black bin Non-recyclable household waste Every 2 weeks Lid must close; ordinary excess bags are not collected.
Blue bin Accepted household recycling Every 2 weeks Recycling should be clean, dry and loose rather than bagged.
Food caddy Household food waste Weekly Collected by a separate vehicle, so it may disappear at a different time from the wheelie bin.
Glass box Glass bottles and jars Every 2 weeks Keep glass separate from the blue recycling bin.
Green garden bin Subscribed garden waste Every 2 weeks Paid subscription; 25 collections with a two-week festive break.
Bank holidays: Hart’s garden-waste terms say normal garden collections do not change for ordinary bank holidays, including Good Friday and Easter Monday. Christmas and New Year are treated separately.

What Goes in Hart’s Black and Blue Bins?

Black bin

Non-recyclable rubbish

Use the black bin for normal household rubbish that cannot be placed in one of Hart’s recycling services.

  • Non-recyclable household rubbish
  • Waste that cannot use the blue recycling stream
  • Bagged general household waste that fits fully inside the bin

The lid must close. Garden waste and ordinary side waste should not be added.

Blue recycling

Current accepted recycling

  • Paper
  • Cardboard, but not shredded paper
  • Plastic bottles
  • Tins and cans
  • Empty aerosols

Items should be clean, dry and placed loose in the bin rather than inside plastic bags.

Do not put plastic pots, tubs or trays in the blue bin yet. Hart says its current recycling facility cannot process these through the kerbside blue-bin service. Wider recycling changes are planned after Hampshire’s new sorting facility becomes operational.

Hart Food Waste Collection: Weekly in 2026

Hart introduced district-wide weekly food-waste collections in October 2025. The service continues through 2026 and is normally collected on the same day as your waste or recycling collection unless the council has told your property otherwise.

Indoor caddy

Households received a small indoor caddy for collecting food scraps before they are transferred outside.

Outdoor caddy

Standard kerbside homes use a lockable outdoor food-waste caddy. Communal properties may have a shared food-waste bin.

Separate collection vehicle

Food waste can be collected at a different time from the black or blue bin because a separate vehicle services the food caddies.

Food waste accepted

  • Fruit and vegetable peelings
  • Plate scrapings
  • Raw and cooked meat and fish
  • Bones and shells
  • Dairy products and eggshells
  • Bread, cakes and pastries
  • Rice, pasta and beans
  • Tea bags and coffee grounds
  • Pet food

Keep out

  • Liquids, oils and fats
  • Food packaging
  • Kitchen roll
  • Nappies
  • Clinical waste
  • Cat litter or dog waste
  • Garden waste
  • Other non-food material
Liner tip: Hart says residents can buy replacement caddy liners or reuse suitable plastic bags such as bread bags. The liners are removed before the food is processed.

Hart Glass Collection: Keep Bottles and Jars Separate

Glass bottles and jars are collected separately from the blue recycling bin. Hart provides a green glass box and operates a fortnightly kerbside glass collection.

Standard glass box

Hart’s current charge for a replacement or additional 40-litre glass collection box is £3.

Need more capacity?

A 140-litre maroon wheeled glass bin is available for households that recycle larger amounts. The current council price is £45.

Do not overfill the glass box. Glass collection involves manual handling, so use the council-provided container and keep it at a safe weight.

Hart Collection-Day Rules That Prevent Avoidable Missed Bins

Ready from 6am

Put containers at the correct collection point before the route reaches your property. Hart states that collections operate from 6am throughout the year.

Use the highway-side collection point

Place wheelie bins at the point nearest the public highway where the collection vehicle stops, such as the end of the driveway or path.

Keep the lid closed

All household rubbish should fit inside the black bin. Hart does not normally collect excess rubbish placed beside the bin.

Keep recycling clean and dry

Blue-bin items should be loose and suitable for the current recycling stream. Contamination can prevent correct processing.

Evening-before routine: check the property calendar → identify the correct container → remove unsuitable material → close the lid → place it at the collection point ready for the 6am route.

Hart Bin Not Collected: What to Do

Hart asks residents to report a suspected missed collection within 48 hours of the planned collection date. Before submitting the form, confirm that the correct container was actually due and that it was presented properly.

  1. Check the address calendar.
Make sure the black bin, blue bin, glass or garden container was scheduled for that property.
  2. Allow the normal route to run.
A collection vehicle may arrive later than usual, and the weekly food caddy is serviced by a separate vehicle.
  3. Check the collection point.
The bin should have been placed nearest the public highway before collections began.
  4. Check the contents and lid.
Overfilled bins, garden waste in the black bin or incorrect recycling can create a collection problem.
  5. Submit the missed-bin report within 48 hours.
Use the council-linked Hart reporting service rather than waiting until the next collection cycle.

Before clicking “missed bin”

Wrong collection? Return to your postcode calendar and check the correct stream.
Food caddy still full? Remember the food vehicle can arrive at a different time from the wheelie-bin vehicle.
Genuine missed service? Report it through the Hart form within the 48-hour window.
Garden-waste customers: Hart says it aims to rectify a valid missed garden-waste collection within two working days. Leave the subscribed bin at the collection point after reporting it.

Hart Garden Waste 2026/27: Green-Bin Prices and Rules

Hart’s garden-waste service is optional and paid. Subscriptions last for 12 calendar months from the date you join and cover 25 fortnightly collections, with a two-week break over Christmas and New Year.

Garden bin 2026/27 annual subscription Concessionary rate Bin purchase
140-litre £55 £29 £45
240-litre £80 £54 £45

Hart says residents receiving Housing Benefit, Council Tax Support or the housing element of Universal Credit may qualify for the concessionary rate. The council asks eligible residents to call 01252 622122 to apply.

Accepted garden material

  • Grass cuttings
  • Hedge trimmings
  • Weeds and leaves
  • Twigs
  • Branches up to 10cm diameter
  • Cut flowers
  • Prunings

Keep out

  • Food waste
  • Japanese knotweed
  • Soil, turf, rubble or stones
  • Animal waste or bedding
  • Compost
  • Biodegradable plastics
  • Branches over 10cm diameter
50kg maximum: Hart says garden bins over 50kg may be left because of manual-handling and vehicle safety concerns.
Moving house? A garden subscription can be transferred to another address within Hart. If you move outside the district, the service can be transferred to another resident. The council asks residents to allow around ten working days for processing.

Small Electricals Can Be Collected With Your Hart Bin

Hart allows suitable small electrical items to be left for kerbside collection on top of either the black or blue wheelie bin. The item must fit inside a standard carrier bag.

Examples

  • Kettles
  • Small toasters
  • Hair dryers
  • Hand blenders
  • Cables
  • Mobile phones
  • Vapes and e-cigarettes

Presentation

Put the small electrical item in an appropriate bag and leave it on top of the black or blue bin rather than hiding it inside household rubbish.

New, Replacement and Additional Bins in Hart

Hart charges for many new and replacement containers. Residents of new-build properties should first check whether the developer has already arranged the required bins.

New property package

New properties need a black waste bin, blue recycling bin and glass container. Hart advises calling 01252 622122 to order.

Damaged bin

Householders are normally responsible for buying a replacement. A bin damaged within its first two years may be replaced free if proof of purchase is available.

Extra blue recycling bin

Residents who regularly have more eligible recycling can purchase additional recycling capacity.

Extra black-bin capacity is restricted. Hart considers applications in exceptional circumstances, including larger permanent households, households with multiple children in nappies and some medical-waste situations. Supporting information is required.

Need Help Putting the Bin Out?

Hart provides an assisted collection service for residents who cannot move their bins to the normal collection point and do not have another able-bodied person available to help.

Disability or medical need

Residents with a disability or relevant medical condition may qualify for help.

Older residents

Assistance is also available for elderly residents who cannot move their bins to the property edge.

Bin returned afterwards

For approved assisted collections, crews collect the bin from the agreed property location and return it after emptying.

Hart Bulky Waste Collection: 2026/27 Charges

Hart offers a paid collection service for suitable bulky household items such as furniture, washing machines, cookers and carpets. The item list and price should be checked before booking because some large or heavy objects count as more than one item.

Items 2026/27 charge Items 2026/27 charge
1 item £50 5 items £119
2 items £64 6 items £148
3 items £78 7 items £164
4 items £88 8 items £187

Where to put booked items

Leave them together outside but inside your property boundary, as close to the edge as practical, visible from the highway or footpath and accessible to the crew.

Ready from 6am

Hart’s bulky-waste crews start collections from 6am, so the booked items must be available by then.

White goods: Hart asks residents booking white goods to call 01252 622122. Some items containing glass, asbestos, rubble, gas bottles and other restricted materials cannot use the bulky collection.

Household Waste Recycling Centres for Hart Residents

Household Waste Recycling Centres are run by Hampshire County Council rather than Hart District Council. Hart residents can use Hampshire sites, but the council advises that an appointment is required before taking household waste to a centre.

Hartley Wintney option

Springwell Lane, Hartley Wintney is one of the closest Hampshire household recycling centres for many Hart residents.

Upholstered seating

Springwell Lane does not accept domestic upholstered seating such as sofas and armchairs. Hart directs residents to suitable larger Hampshire sites for this material.

Check before travelling. Booking requirements, accepted waste and site conditions are controlled by Hampshire County Council and can change independently of Hart’s kerbside service.

Healthcare Waste Needs a Separate Route

Sharps and infectious clinical waste should not go in ordinary household bins. Hart provides a free healthcare-waste collection service for qualifying residents receiving ongoing treatment or post-operative care.

Sharps

Yellow sharps containers are used for items such as needles and scalpels.

Clinical waste

Orange sacks are supplied for infectious or potentially infectious soft clinical waste such as contaminated dressings and swabs.

A GP or other healthcare professional must complete the referral process. Incontinence waste is handled differently and can normally go in the black bin; households producing larger amounts may be able to apply for additional residual-waste capacity.

Hart Christmas and New Year Bin Collections 2026

Do not reuse the Christmas 2025 / January 2026 timetable for the end of 2026. Festive dates are temporary and depend on the calendar year.

Recheck before Christmas 2026. At the time this guide was prepared, the currently indexed Hart festive timetable related to Christmas 2025 and the January 2026 catch-up period. Use the live bin-day checker and Hart’s current Christmas waste page once the 2026 festive schedule is published.

The ordinary garden-waste terms include a two-week Christmas and New Year service break. Exact dates for the 2026 festive period should be confirmed from the council rather than predicted from the previous year.

The standard black household rubbish bin is emptied once every two weeks.

How often is the Hart blue recycling bin collected?

Hart’s blue household recycling bin is normally emptied once every two weeks.

Is food waste collected every week in Hart?

Yes. Hart operates a weekly food-waste collection, normally on the same day as the household waste or recycling service unless the council has told the property otherwise.

How soon must I report a missed Hart bin?

Hart asks residents to report a missed collection within 48 hours of the planned collection date.

How much is Hart garden waste in 2026/27?

The current annual subscription is £55 for a 140-litre green bin or £80 for a 240-litre bin. Eligible concessionary rates are £29 and £54 respectively. A garden bin itself costs £45.

Not under the current Hart kerbside rules. The blue bin accepts plastic bottles but not plastic pots, tubs and trays. The council says wider recycling changes are planned for the future.

Can I leave extra rubbish next to my black bin?

Not as part of the normal black-bin collection. Household rubbish should fit inside the bin with the lid closed. Temporary festive arrangements can differ, so follow any current council notice.

Best Next Step: Use Your Hart Property Calendar

For a normal Hart household, remember the basic pattern: black rubbish every two weeks, blue recycling every two weeks, food waste weekly and separate glass every two weeks.

Your actual date still comes from your property. Check the postcode service, put the correct container at the highway-side collection point before 6am and use the missed-bin form within 48 hours when a qualifying collection has genuinely been missed.
