Rhondda Cynon Taf Bin Collection Day: Check Your Schedule & Calendar
Rhondda Cynon Taf does not have one universal collection date for every household. Use the council’s address search to find the live recycling, food-waste, black-bag and registered green-waste dates for your property.
The normal household pattern is straightforward: clear-bag recycling and food waste are collected weekly, while black bags are collected every three weeks. Green waste follows separate summer and winter arrangements, and nappy or incontinence collections require registration.
Rhondda Cynon Taf Bin Collection: Quick Answer
Use Rhondda Cynon Taf County Borough Council’s address-based collection checker. Enter your house number and postcode to see the dates linked to your property rather than relying on a county-wide weekday.
For normal household collections, clear-bag recycling and food waste are weekly. Black bags are collected every three weeks. Put bags and containers at the correct collection point between 7pm the night before and 7am on collection morning.

How to Check Your Rhondda Cynon Taf Bin Collection Day
The council’s live property checker is the safest way to answer “what day are my bins collected?” because different streets and collection groups can have different weekdays and different next black-bag dates.
-
Open the official RCT collection-day finder.
Use the council service instead of copying a neighbour’s calendar. -
Enter your house number and postcode.
Use the details for the property whose collection you need to check. -
Read every waste stream shown.
Your result can include recycling, food waste, black bags and registered services such as green or purple-bag collections. -
Record the actual collection date.
Do not rely only on remembering the weekday because Christmas, New Year, weather or operational disruption can alter collections. -
Use the printable calendar if useful.
Recheck the live result when service arrangements change rather than relying permanently on an old saved calendar.
Rhondda Cynon Taf Collection Schedule Explained
RCT separates recyclable material and food waste from residual household rubbish so that the recyclable streams can be collected more frequently. Standard household black-bag waste therefore runs on a longer cycle.
| Waste stream | Normal frequency | Automatic? | Important point |
|---|---|---|---|
| Clear-bag recycling | Weekly | Yes | Use only for items accepted by the council’s kerbside recycling service. |
| Food waste | Weekly | Yes | Use the food-waste bags and outside food caddy rather than a clear recycling bag. |
| Black bags | Every three weeks | Yes | Standard household allowance applies. |
| Summer green waste | Weekly | No | Household must register for green-waste collections. |
| Winter green waste | Booked collection | No | A booking is required each time during the winter service period. |
| Nappy waste | Weekly | No | Free purple-bag service requires registration. |
| Incontinence waste | Weekly | No | Free purple-bag service requires registration. |
Black Bag Collection: Three-Weekly Cycle and Bag Limit
Standard residual household waste is collected every three weeks. Households using the standard black-bag system can normally present a maximum of three standard-size black bags on the scheduled black-bag collection.
What black bags are for
Use black bags for household rubbish that cannot be accepted through RCT’s food-waste, clear-bag recycling or other separate recycling services.
Too many black bags
If you present more than the permitted allowance, the additional waste can be left behind and the collection will not automatically count as a missed collection.
Clear Bag Recycling in Rhondda Cynon Taf
Clear-bag recycling is collected every week, giving households a way to keep recyclable materials out of the three-weekly black-bag stream.
Use council recycling bags
Sort accepted dry recyclable material into the council’s clear recycling bags and place them at the normal collection point by 7am.
Wrong items can stop collection
If a recycling bag contains unsuitable material, the crew may sticker and leave it. Re-sort the contents before the next scheduled collection rather than treating contamination as a missed collection.
If you are unsure about a particular item, use the council’s recycling search rather than assuming that an item is accepted just because the packaging carries a recycling symbol.
Food Waste Collection: Weekly Service
RCT collects household food waste every week. Residents use food-waste bags inside the kitchen and place those bags in the outside food-waste bin for collection.

RCT Green Waste Collection: Summer and Winter 2026/27
Green waste does not follow one identical system throughout the year. Households must register for the service, and the rules change between the summer and winter periods.
16 March to 13 November 2026
Registered households receive weekly green-waste collections automatically on their normal waste and recycling day during this period.
16 November 2026 to 15 March 2027
A collection must be booked each time you need one. The council says winter bookings open on 9 November 2026.

Purple Bags for Nappies and Incontinence Waste
RCT operates separate free weekly purple-bag schemes for disposable nappies and incontinence waste. These are registered services and the collection day can be different from the household’s normal recycling day.
Free weekly collection
Register once you actually have nappy waste to collect. The council aims to email the collection day and deliver the purple bags within two weeks.
Free weekly collection
Residents requiring the incontinence-waste service must also register. Purple bags are delivered for use on the allocated collection day.
Purple bags must be tied and placed at the usual collection point by 7am. The nappy service accepts used nappies, wet wipes and nappy bags; other waste should not be mixed into the purple sack.
Missed Bin or Bag Collection in Rhondda Cynon Taf
A crew being late does not immediately mean the collection is missed. RCT advises allowing up to 24 hours because operational delays can cause crews to return later than expected.
-
Confirm the collection date.
Check the property-specific calendar before reporting anything. -
Confirm it was ready by 7am.
Waste placed out after the collection window does not qualify as a normal missed collection. -
Check for a sticker or contamination.
Wrong material, overweight bags or rejected waste may explain why the crew left it. -
Check the black-bag allowance.
More than the permitted standard allowance can be left behind. -
Wait until the next day.
If an otherwise valid household collection remains uncollected after 24 hours, use the council’s missed-collection reporting service.
Assisted Collections if You Cannot Carry Waste to the Collection Point
Residents with physical difficulty carrying recycling or waste to the normal collection point can apply for an assisted collection. RCT describes this as a collect-and-return arrangement from an agreed alternative location.
Who may qualify?
The service can be short or long term and is intended for residents who need physical assistance and do not have another person such as a family member, friend or neighbour available to help.
How approval works
An application is reviewed and the alternative collection point must be suitable. The council then tells the resident whether the arrangement has been approved.
Bulky Waste Collection: Current RCT Charge
Large household or garden items can be booked for kerbside collection. The current council charge is £24 for up to three items.
Examples collected
Eligible bookings can include items such as fridges, freezers, washing machines, cookers, sofas, beds, cupboards, exercise equipment and some large garden items.
Booking is fixed
The booked collection is non-refundable and the selected collection date cannot be changed under the current service terms.
Presentation window
Place booked items at the instructed collection point between 7pm the evening before and 7am on the booked day.
Only items included in the booking should be put out. Loose items must be secure, and any item-specific instructions supplied during the booking should be followed.
Rhondda Cynon Taf Community Recycling Centres
RCT operates six Community Recycling Centres for suitable household waste that cannot be handled through normal kerbside recycling and waste collections.
Current 2026/27 seasonal opening pattern

27 October 2026 to 30 March 2027
8:30am–4:30pm, seven days a week, subject to seasonal holiday closures.
Bank Holidays, Christmas and Bad Weather
RCT states that ordinary collection days do not change after most Bank Holidays. Christmas and New Year are different and can use revised collection arrangements.
Most Bank Holidays
Follow your normal collection day unless the council publishes a specific operational change.
Christmas & New Year
Check the council’s current festive schedule because collection dates can move during this period.
Bad weather
Snow, ice or another service disruption can delay crews. Use current council service updates rather than guessing a replacement date.
Where to Get More Recycling, Food and Green-Waste Bags
RCT provides local collection points for clear recycling bags and food-waste bags across the Rhondda, Cynon and Taf areas. The council currently limits collection-point visitors to two rolls of each bag type so stocks can be shared fairly.
Clear & food bags
Collect them from an approved local distribution point using the council’s current Rhondda, Cynon or Taf bag-location lists.
Purple bags
Registered nappy or incontinence-waste customers can request additional purple bags for delivery through the relevant service.
Food-waste bin
A new or replacement food-waste bin can be requested for the weekly household food collection.
Green sacks
Registered green-waste customers can currently buy additional 90-litre sacks for £3.20 each.

Start with the council’s live collection finder and save the actual dates for your property. Weekly recycling and food waste do not mean black bags are weekly — standard black-bag collection is every three weeks.
Put correctly sorted bags and containers at the collection point between 7pm the evening before and 7am on collection morning. If a qualifying collection is still outstanding after 24 hours, use the official missed-collection service.
