Bin Collection Boston: Dates, Days, Bin Types & Calendar
Boston Borough Council collection dates are address-specific. For the safest answer, search your postcode and property on the council’s live waste-collection service rather than relying on an old printed calendar or another street’s bins.
This guide covers the normal green, blue and purple-lidded collection pattern, the 5:30am presentation deadline, brown garden-waste collections and the new weekly food-waste service due to start in the week commencing 19 October 2026.
Boston Bin Collection: Quick Answer
Check your exact property on Boston Borough Council’s “Your Waste Collections” service. Normal household collections use a green residual bin, blue mixed-recycling bin and purple or purple-lidded paper-and-card bin, but actual calendar dates depend on the address.
Put bins out the night before or by 5:30am on collection day. The council is also introducing weekly food-waste collections from the week commencing 19 October 2026, and collection rounds may change as the new service is introduced.

How to Check Your Boston Bin Collection Day
Boston Borough Council provides a property-level waste lookup. This is more reliable than using a town-wide timetable because collection routes can differ and the introduction of weekly food waste in October 2026 is prompting route reviews.
-
Open the official “Your Waste Collections” service.
Use Boston Borough Council’s live collection finder. -
Enter your postcode.
You can also identify the property details requested by the council service. -
Select the correct address.
Do not assume that another property on the street has the same service arrangement. -
Read the collection date and waste stream together.
Note whether the result is for the green, blue, purple-lidded or subscribed brown bin. -
Recheck around the October food-waste launch.
Boston Borough Council says some normal collection days may change as food waste is integrated into existing rounds.
Boston Bin Collection Calendar 2026/27
Boston Borough Council publishes a 2026/27 waste calendar, but it also warns that collections are subject to change following the introduction of food waste. The council has not relied on its usual Council Tax mailing for calendars because a printed version could quickly become outdated during route reviews.
Live postcode lookup
Use this first when you need to know which bin is collected from your home next.
2026/27 calendar
The council calendar shows the colour-coded service year and festive changes, but household dates still need checking.
Recheck your route
The weekly food-waste launch may alter the day on which some homes receive their existing wheelie-bin service.
Normal Boston Green, Blue and Purple Bin Pattern
Boston’s established twin-stream system normally uses a four-week recycling cycle: the green residual bin is collected every two weeks, while the blue mixed-recycling bin and purple-lidded paper-and-card bin alternate on the weeks between green-bin collections.
| Cycle week | Main container | Main purpose | Important point |
|---|---|---|---|
| Week 1 | Green bin | Residual household waste | Your actual Week 1 depends on the property calendar. |
| Week 2 | Blue bin | Mixed dry recycling | Paper and card belong in the separate purple-lidded stream. |
| Week 3 | Green bin | Residual household waste | Put the bin out by 5:30am. |
| Week 4 | Purple-lidded bin | Clean, dry paper and card | Side waste is not accepted with this stream. |

Boston Bin Collection Rules: What to Do Before 5:30am
Put it out in time
Present the correct bin the night before or no later than 5:30am on the scheduled collection day.
Use the correct contents
Recycling bins can be inspected and rejected when they contain contamination.
Keep access available
Parked vehicles or other access problems can prevent a refuse vehicle reaching a street or collection point.
Boston Missed Bin Collection: What Happens for Each Bin?
Boston’s missed-bin process is not identical for every container. Check for a contamination tag, compare neighbouring collections and confirm that your bin was presented on time before reporting it.
| Bin | What to do | Reporting detail | Return arrangement |
|---|---|---|---|
| Green | Report if nearby bins were emptied and yours was correctly presented with no rejection tag. | Council guidance says within 2 days of the missed collection by 2pm. | Council attempts a return where the report qualifies. |
| Blue | Contact the council if neighbouring blue bins were emptied. | For a normal household the council may provide recycling bags rather than recollect the blue bin. | Blue bins are not normally recollected; assisted collections have separate missed-bin provisions. |
| Purple / purple lid | Report if it was correctly presented, neighbours were collected and there is no contamination tag. | Council guidance says within 2 days by 2pm. | Council attempts a qualifying recollection. |
| Brown | Report a genuine missed subscribed garden-waste bin. | Report within the council’s stated short missed-collection window. | A return may be attempted where no presentation or service issue is recorded. |
-
Check your exact collection date.
Confirm that the container was actually scheduled for that property. -
Check the 5:30am presentation deadline.
A late bin can be recorded as not presented. -
Look for a sticker or tag.
A contamination tag means the issue is a rejected bin rather than a normal missed collection. -
Check neighbouring properties.
If the whole road has not been serviced, an access or operational issue may have affected the round. -
Submit the official missed-collection report promptly.
The online form asks for the collection-address postcode. -
Save your reference.
The council’s online form provides a 16-digit reference number after successful submission.
Tagged or Rejected Recycling Bin
A blue or purple-lidded bin containing unsuitable items can be tagged and left unemptied. When council records show that the bin was rejected for contamination, the crew does not normally return simply because the incorrect material has since been removed.
Remove the contamination
Take out the item identified by the tag or any material that does not belong in that recycling stream.
Prepare for the next collection
Re-present the corrected bin on its next scheduled date or use an appropriate recycling-centre route if you need to dispose of material sooner.

Missing, Damaged or Extra Boston Bins
Boston Borough Council’s operational policy says standard green, blue and purple-lidded wheeled bins are normally supplied without a charge, except where a bin has been neglected, misused or damaged by the householder. Requests are handled through council Customer Services.
Standard bin size
A 240-litre wheeled bin is the normal container for most households, with other sizes possible for flats and some multiple-occupancy properties.
Extra capacity
A second bin may be considered for qualifying households with unusually high unavoidable waste needs, including some larger families.
Delivery timing
The council’s operational policy says replacement wheeled bins are normally delivered as soon as practical, usually within about 10 working days.
For current eligibility, charges or a specific replacement request, contact Boston Borough Council rather than assuming the brown-bin replacement charge applies to every container.
Boston Bulky Waste Collection: Furniture and Large Items
Boston Borough Council operates a pre-paid bulky household-waste service for items that are difficult to transport to the recycling centre.
Up to 4 standard items
The current guideline price is £40 for up to four standard bulky items.
Up to 2 large white items
The current guideline price is £60 for up to two large white electrical items such as qualifying fridge-freezers.
Larger loads
More than four items, carpets, sheds, wood or unusual loads may require an individual quote.
Booked items should be placed at the front of the property the night before or by 5:30am on collection day. The council says it is not insured to remove items from inside homes.
