Blaby Bin Collection: Check Your Day, Calendar & Correct Bin
Blaby District Council collection dates are property-specific. Enter your postcode in the council’s collection finder, choose the exact address and check whether refuse, recycling, garden waste or the weekly food caddy is due.
Standard refuse and recycling collections alternate every two weeks. Food waste has been collected weekly since 30 March 2026, while the optional brown-lidded garden bin runs fortnightly from March to November for subscribed households.
Blaby Bin Collection: Quick Answer
Use Blaby District Council’s live address search for the exact collection date. Refuse and recycling are normally collected on alternate weeks, so each service is usually fortnightly. Food waste is collected every week on the same day as your other waste or recycling, but by a separate vehicle.
Put the correct bin or food caddy at the edge of your property by 6:30am. Keep wheelie-bin lids fully closed and do not leave ordinary side waste beside the bin.

How to Check Your Blaby Bin Collection Day
Blaby publishes household collection dates through an address search rather than asking residents to rely on one district-wide calendar. Always select your exact property before saving a date.
-
Open the official collection-date finder.
Use the live Blaby service rather than an old printed calendar or another street’s rota. -
Enter your postcode.
Use the postcode for the property receiving the household collection. -
Select the exact address.
Check the house number or property name carefully before using the dates. -
Match the date with the waste stream.
Record whether the date applies to refuse, recycling, garden waste or another service. -
Recheck temporary changes.
Public holidays, severe weather and operational disruption can alter normal collection arrangements.
Blaby Bin Collection Schedule in 2026
The core Blaby service uses alternate-week refuse and recycling collections. Weekly food waste now sits alongside that rota, while paid garden waste follows the recycling week during its operating season.
| Waste service | Normal frequency | Container | Key point |
|---|---|---|---|
| Household refuse | Fortnightly | Green wheelie bin with black lid | Alternates with recycling. |
| Mixed recycling | Fortnightly | Green wheelie bin with green lid | All accepted material must fit inside with the lid closed. |
| Food waste | Weekly | Grey food-waste caddy | Collected on your usual bin day by a separate vehicle. |
| Garden waste | Fortnightly March–November | Green wheelie bin with brown lid | Paid subscription; normally collected on recycling day. |

Green-Lidded Recycling Bin

Grey Food-Waste Caddy
Households use a small indoor caddy and the larger outside caddy for the weekly collection.

Blaby Refuse Collection: Fortnightly General Waste
Household refuse is normally collected every two weeks. Use recycling and food-waste services first, then place remaining non-recyclable household rubbish into the black-lidded bin.
Keep the lid shut
Blaby operates a closed-lid approach. Do not force extra sacks into or onto the bin so the lid cannot close.
No side waste
Ordinary rubbish left beside the refuse bin will not be collected.
Do not overload
A bin that crews cannot move safely because of its weight can be left unemptied.
Items Blaby excludes from household refuse bins
- Liquids
- Trade or business waste
- Construction waste
- Paint
- Garden waste
- Batteries
Put Blaby Bins Out by 6:30am
Containers should be clearly visible and accessible at the boundary where your property meets the public road or pavement by 6:30am. Collection times can be earlier than usual during hot weather.
Blaby Missed Bin: Check Before Reporting
A missed refuse, recycling, food or garden collection should be checked against your live calendar first. Blaby requires missed bins to be reported within two working days of the crew visiting your street.
-
Confirm the service was due.
Reopen the property calendar and check the correct waste stream. -
Check the 6:30am rule.
A container presented after the collection vehicle passed does not qualify as a genuine miss. -
Check the collection point.
The bin should have been where your property boundary meets the road or pavement unless another point is agreed. -
Look for a rejection reason.
Check for contamination, excess side waste, excess weight, a locked gate or inaccessible road. -
Report within two working days.
Reports made later fall outside the council’s normal return-collection window.
Blaby Garden Waste Collection 2026/27
The brown-lidded garden-waste service is optional and paid. Collections take place every two weeks on the same day as recycling between March and November. There are no scheduled garden-waste collections from December through February.
The subscription period runs from 1 April to 31 March. There is no pro-rata discount when joining part-way through the year, so a late subscriber pays the annual rate even if fewer collections remain.
Accepted garden waste
- Grass cuttings
- Hedge cuttings
- Twigs and small branches
- Weeds with soil shaken off
- Flowers and plants
- Leaves and bark
Keep these out
- Food waste
- Plastic bags

Need a Larger or Additional Blaby Bin?
Blaby bases normal refuse and recycling capacity on household size. Some larger containers or additional bins are free where the household’s standard entitlement changes; extra capacity beyond the standard level can carry a one-off charge.
| Permanent residents | Standard capacity | Maximum capacity | Extra-capacity charge |
|---|---|---|---|
| Up to 3 | 140 litres | 240 litres | £26.50 per additional/upgraded bin where charged |
| 4–6 | 240 litres | 240L + 140L | £26.50 per charged additional bin |
| 7+ | 240L + 140L | 2 × 240L | Depends on current capacity and requested option |
Blaby Assisted Bin Collections
Assisted collection is available where a resident has a genuine difficulty moving wheeled bins because of reduced mobility, a medical condition or a temporary or permanent mobility problem and no-one else is available to help.
Agreed collection point
Crews can collect the bins from an agreed location and return them after emptying.
Disability registration not required
You do not have to be formally registered disabled to ask for assistance.
Keep access available
Gates must be unlocked. Crews cannot enter the home, shed or garage to retrieve containers.
Assisted bins still need to be available by 6:30am at the collection location agreed with the council. Existing assisted arrangements also cover the household food-waste caddy.
Flats, Communal Bins and Homes Without Wheelie-Bin Space
Some Blaby properties do not use the standard individual wheelie-bin setup. Flats can have communal refuse and recycling containers, while homes that cannot accommodate wheelie bins can receive sack-based collections.
Communal containers
Blaby decides the number and capacity of communal bins using the property’s occupancy and available bin-store space.
Food waste in flats
Residents with an external communal bin store receive a kitchen caddy, while communal food-waste capacity is added to the shared store.
Sack collection
Where wheelie bins are unsuitable, the council can provide clear recycling sacks and purple refuse sacks under the property’s agreed service.
Blaby Bulky Waste Collection
Large household items that do not fit in normal bins can be booked through Blaby District Council’s chargeable bulky-item service. Furniture, electrical items and white goods are among the household items the council can collect where they meet the current booking rules.
-
Check that the item is accepted.
Very large items and business waste can be excluded. -
Start the online booking.
Blaby asks for your name, address, telephone number and the items requiring collection. -
Confirm the price and date.
The council calculates the charge from the items booked and agrees the collection date. -
Pay when booking.
The current service accepts debit and credit card payment.
Whetstone Household Waste Recycling Centre
The local household waste site used by many Blaby District residents is on Enderby Road in Whetstone. It is operated by Leicestershire County Council, not Blaby District Council.
Use the county council’s live recycling-site information before travelling, especially for bulky waste, electrical equipment, batteries or materials that are excluded from kerbside bins. Site access, permits and accepted materials are controlled by Leicestershire County Council.
Bank Holidays, Christmas and Collection Disruption
Blaby publishes planned day changes through its online calendar and council communications. Do not assume that every bank holiday automatically moves your bin day by one day.
Public holidays
Check the live property calendar for the date that applies to your address.
Christmas period
Festive missed-bin recovery can take slightly longer than the council’s normal two-working-day target.
Severe weather
Weather, industrial action, emergency conditions or operational problems can temporarily suspend services.
