Bath Bin Collection: Days, Calendar & Schedule 2026

Bath Bin Collection 2026: Find Your Day, Calendar & Correct Schedule

Bath household collection dates are property-specific. Start with Bath & North East Somerset Council’s collection day finder, enter your postcode and use the date shown for your own address rather than copying a neighbour’s routine.

For most standard households, rubbish is collected every other week, while household recycling and food waste are collected weekly. Subscribed garden waste normally runs every other week during its operating season.

Bath Bin Collection: The Answer in 30 Seconds

Use the official B&NES Collection Day Finder for your exact date. A small number of households had their collection day changed from 7 September 2026, so an old recurring reminder may now be wrong.

Rubbish

Every other week

Standard household rubbish is collected in a wheelie bin or reusable rubbish bag.

Recycling

Every week

Green recycling boxes and the relevant paper/card container are normally collected weekly.

Food

Every week

Food waste has a weekly collection timetable.

Garden

Every other week

Applies to an active paid garden-waste service during its collection season.

How to Check Your Bath Bin Collection Day

The collection day finder is the safest starting point because it returns dates for the property rather than a Bath-wide timetable.

  1. Open the B&NES collection day finder.
Use the official council service rather than a saved social-media image or an old calendar.
  2. Enter the property’s postcode.
Use the postcode for the home where the waste is actually collected.
  3. Select the correct address.
Do not select a nearby property just because it is on the same road.
  4. Read the service and date together.
Note whether the result refers to rubbish, recycling, food waste or garden waste.
  5. Replace old recurring reminders if the day has changed.
This is especially important after the September 2026 route changes.
Useful reminder: save “waste stream + exact date”, not just “Tuesday”. Different streams operate at different frequencies.

Bath Bin Collection Schedule 2026

The frequency table below explains the normal household pattern. It does not replace your property result, because route days and property arrangements can differ.

Service Normal frequency Typical container Important point
Household rubbish Every other week Wheelie bin or reusable rubbish bag Check the property calendar for the exact week.
Dry recycling Weekly Green recycling boxes plus the applicable paper/card container Separate materials according to current council instructions.
Food waste Weekly Kitchen caddy plus outdoor food container or local alternative Remove packaging before putting food into the food-waste stream.
Garden waste Every other week Subscribed garden bin or council-branded sack Seasonal and chargeable; an active service is required.
Same-day principle: standard B&NES service planning is designed so household waste streams can use the property’s scheduled collection day, but not every stream is collected every week. Always read the live calendar.

Which Bath Bin, Box or Bag Should You Use?

Rubbish

Wheelie bin or RRB

Use this only for household waste that cannot be recycled. Food waste, batteries, garden waste, hazardous materials and bulky items should use another route.

Green boxes

Kerbside recycling

Green recycling boxes are used for accepted recyclable materials. If two boxes are supplied, follow the council’s current separation guidance.

Blue bag

Paper & cardboard

Suitable paper, cardboard, newspapers, magazines, egg boxes and cartons go into the blue recycling bag under the current system.

Food

Food waste container

Use it for food scraps, fruit and vegetable peelings, cooked or raw meat and fish, bread, dairy, rice, pasta and similar food waste.

Garden

Paid garden service

Grass, hedge clippings, leaves, flowers and suitable garden material can use the subscribed garden-waste service.

Special handling

Batteries & electricals

Do not bury batteries in household rubbish or loose recycling. Follow the council’s specific kerbside or recycling-centre instructions.

What Time Should Bath Bins Be Put Out?

Standard rubbish and household recycling should normally be at the front edge of the property by 6am on the scheduled day. B&NES advises residents not to put them out before 8pm the night before.

Before 6am

Have the correct rubbish bin, recycling containers or sacks visible at the normal collection point.

Close the bin lid

Do not overfill the rubbish bin. A fully closed lid reduces operational and safety problems.

Keep the pavement usable

Place boxes and bags safely and bring emptied containers back in as soon as practical after collection.

Bath city centre

Do not leave rubbish or recycling on railings or steps between collection days.

Bath Bin Not Collected? Use the 24-Hour Reporting Window

B&NES only allows a household missed collection to be reported once crews have confirmed that they have already attended the street. A crew may simply be running later than expected.

  1. Check the property collection date.
Make sure the specific rubbish, recycling, food or garden service was actually due.
  2. Check current collection problems.
A road-wide operational disruption may already be listed by the council.
  3. Wait until after 5pm.
The reporting window starts after 5pm on the scheduled collection day.
  4. Report before 5pm the next day.
The council gives a 24-hour reporting window ending at 5pm on the day after collection.
  5. Leave the relevant container available if instructed.
Follow the response provided by the official reporting service.
A return collection is not automatic in every situation. Late presentation, contamination, an incorrectly presented container or another household-side problem may require you to correct the issue for the next scheduled collection.

September 2026 Bath Collection-Day Changes

Current 2026 update: B&NES changed collection days for a small number of households from Monday 7 September 2026. Affected households were contacted directly.

The changes were introduced to improve round efficiency, accommodate future housing growth and improve service resilience.

If affected
Delete your old repeating reminder.

Run the postcode finder again and save the new property-specific date.

Not sure?
Do not assume your day stayed the same.

A quick live lookup is more reliable than counting forward from an August collection.

Bath Garden Waste Collections 2026–27

Garden waste is a separate paid service. Collections normally run every other week during the operating season rather than continuously throughout winter.

2026–27 period Subscription New/replacement bin delivery Total where delivery applies
July–September 2026 £75 £11.35 £86.35
October–December 2026 £55 £11.35 £66.35
January–March 2027 £40 £11.35 £51.35
May–July 2027 £25 £11.35 £36.35

The council’s published 2026–27 collection season runs from 13 July to 4 December 2026, then resumes from 18 January to 11 July 2027.

Current supply notice: the council’s service updates are displaying a garden-bin stock disruption. Check the live garden-waste page before trying to start a new bin subscription.

Council-branded paper garden-waste sacks are also available for occasional use. The current listed price is £5.09 per sack.

Bath Flats, Apartments and Communal Collections

Flats should not automatically copy the container setup used by a nearby house. Some apartment buildings use communal recycling bins, while properties with limited storage may receive green recycling sacks or other property-specific arrangements.

Communal bin store

Follow the labels on the shared containers and any access or presentation instructions for the building.

Green recycling sacks

Some Bath flats with limited storage use council-issued green recycling sacks instead of standard boxes.

Central Bath: dense city-centre properties can have different food-waste and recycling arrangements. Use the service supplied to your building rather than copying a kerbside house guide.

Replacement or Larger Rubbish Bin in Bath

You can request a replacement rubbish bin or reusable rubbish bag if the existing container is damaged. Repeat replacement requests can attract a charge.

A larger rubbish bin is restricted to qualifying households. B&NES currently lists three main eligibility routes:

  • More than six people live permanently in the home.
  • Two or more children in full-time nappies live in the household.
  • A resident has a qualifying medical need generating additional residual waste.
Moving home? council rubbish and recycling containers normally stay with the property. A household with an approved larger bin must reapply for the new address if additional capacity is still needed.

Sofa, Mattress, Furniture or Large Appliance Collection

B&NES offers a paid collection for eligible large household items. A booking can cover up to ten items.

Items 2026 standard charge Qualifying discounted charge
1–3 items £41.97 £20.98
4–6 items £73.38 £36.69
7–10 items £91.52 £45.76

Booked large items should be placed outside the front of the home by 7am on collection day.

Temporary fridge/freezer restriction: the council currently reports that fridges and freezers cannot be accepted through its household recycling centres or large-item collection because of a UK-wide processing-capacity issue. Check the live page before arranging disposal because this is a temporary condition.

Bath Recycling Centre: Current 2026 Rules

Important 2026 transition: the current Bath Recycling Centre is at Midland Road. A replacement centre at Locksbrook Road is under construction and the council says it is expected to open in autumn 2026. Always check the live site page before travelling.

Bath Bank Holidays, Christmas and Bad Weather

B&NES collection guidance says normal household collection services generally continue on ordinary bank holidays. Christmas and New Year are the important exception: revised dates are published separately.

Ordinary bank holiday

Do not automatically move the collection by one day. Check the live property calendar.

Christmas / New Year

Use the festive schedule published for the current year rather than reusing a 2025 timetable.

Severe weather

Collections continue where crews consider access safe. Local road and weather conditions can prevent a vehicle reaching individual streets.

Need Help Putting Your Bins Out?

B&NES provides assisted collection support where a resident cannot safely move household waste or recycling containers to the normal collection point.

If mobility, disability or another qualifying circumstance affects presentation, use the council’s support route rather than leaving containers somewhere unsafe or blocking the pavement.

Check the Exact Bath Property Before Putting Anything Out

The normal pattern is simple—weekly recycling and food waste, rubbish every other week and subscribed garden waste every other week in season—but your exact date still comes from the property calendar.

This is particularly important in September 2026 because some B&NES collection rounds have recently changed.

Independent guide: BinCollectionGuide.org does not operate Bath & North East Somerset Council collection services and cannot see household collection records. Changing dates, temporary disruptions, fees and facility access should be reconfirmed on the official service immediately before reporting, paying, booking or travelling.
