RMBC Bin Collection: 2026 Dates, Calendar, Bin Colours & Missed Reports
RMBC means Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council in this guide. If you need to know which bin goes out this week, start with your household’s correct council calendar or the Rotherham Bins App.
Rotherham uses pink-lid bins for general waste, green bins for paper and card, black bins for mixed container recycling and optional brown bins for subscribed garden waste.
Below you’ll find the four 2026 calendar types, a practical bin-colour guide, collection-day rules, the missed-bin reporting deadline and local recycling-centre information.
RMBC Bin Collection: Quick Answer
Use the Rotherham Bins App or the council’s 2026 PDF calendars to find your exact collection day and bin colour. The published calendars are labelled Week 1A, 1B, 2A and 2B. Choose the one assigned to your property; do not copy another street’s dates.
Place the correct bin at the kerbside before 7am, with its lid closed and without blocking the pavement. If a scheduled collection is missed, first check the council’s missed-street directory. If your street is not listed, report a genuine missed household or recycling collection by the end of the next working day.

How to Check Your RMBC Bin Collection Dates
Rotherham Council provides both digital collection reminders and downloadable calendars. The app is useful for checking your next bin, while the calendar PDFs are helpful when you prefer a printed schedule.
- Start with the official council bin collection page. Open the app information or the 2026 calendar downloads.
- Identify your normal collection day and calendar group. Check whether your household uses Week 1A, 1B, 2A or 2B.
- Open the matching calendar. Make sure the calendar belongs to your property rather than a nearby road.
- Read the bin colour for each date. Pink-lid, green and black collections follow the published colour pattern.
- Check brown garden waste separately. The subscribed garden-waste service has its own calendar and proof-of-subscription arrangement.
- Keep the calendar accessible. Save the PDF or set an app reminder so the correct bin is ready before 7am.
RMBC Bin Collection Calendar 2026: Week 1A, 1B, 2A and 2B
Rotherham publishes four separate 2026 household waste and recycling calendar PDFs. These are different collection patterns, not four calendars that every household should follow simultaneously.
| Calendar | Who should use it? | Where to open it |
|---|---|---|
| Week 1A | Properties assigned to the Week 1A schedule. | Official calendar downloads |
| Week 1B | Properties assigned to the Week 1B schedule. | 2026 Week 1B PDF |
| Week 2A | Properties assigned to the Week 2A schedule. | Official calendar downloads |
| Week 2B | Properties assigned to the Week 2B schedule. | Official calendar downloads |
How the calendar colours work
Each coloured symbol identifies the bin scheduled for collection on that date. A pink marker means general household waste, green means paper and card, and black means container recycling.
The 2026 Week 1B calendar, for example, shows different bin colours on different October collection weeks. But those dates should not be used for a Week 1A or 2B property.
Rotherham Bins App: Collection Dates and Reminders
Rotherham Council provides a free Bins App for residents who want collection-date information on their phone. It is available through the Apple App Store and Google Play.
Next collection
Check the date of your next scheduled household collection rather than trying to calculate it manually.
Correct bin colour
See which household container is due, helping you avoid putting out the wrong bin.
Collection reminders
Set reminders so you have time to prepare the correct bin before the morning collection.
App not showing your address?
Rotherham Council has identified some narrow-access streets where app collection dates were missing or incorrect during route changes. Affected households received paper calendars, and the council directed residents to follow those dates.
If your address is missing or your app result disagrees with an official paper calendar, contact [email protected] to ask for the correct calendar or a replacement.
RMBC Bin Colours: What Goes in Each Rotherham Bin?
Rotherham’s colour scheme is different from some neighbouring councils in South Yorkshire. This matters particularly for the green and black recycling bins.
General rubbish
Household waste that cannot be recycled through the green, black or subscribed brown collection.
Paper and card
Clean paper, cardboard, newspapers and similar accepted paper-based recycling.
Mixed containers
Accepted glass, metal cans and plastic packaging, in line with the council’s sorting rules.
Garden waste
Grass, hedge cuttings, leaves, weeds and other permitted garden material for subscribers.
| Bin | Typical accepted waste | Avoid |
|---|---|---|
| Pink-lid | Non-recyclable household rubbish and unsuitable residual packaging. | Items that belong in recycling, batteries, electrical items and hazardous waste. |
| Green | Clean paper, newspapers, magazines and flattened cardboard. | Dirty food packaging, general rubbish, plastic containers and glass. |
| Black | Accepted plastic bottles and packaging, metal tins and cans, glass bottles and jars. | General rubbish, food waste, textiles and electrical items. |
| Brown | Grass, plants, leaves, bark and small garden clippings. | Food, soil, turf, stones, rocks, animal waste and unsuitable wood products. |
Rotherham Bin Collection-Day Rules
Rotherham Council requires bins to be presented correctly for collection. Many reports of unemptied bins involve timing, overfilling or the wrong materials rather than an entirely missed route.
Before 7am
Place your scheduled bin at the kerbside before 7am on the correct collection day.
Close the lid
Make sure the bin lid closes flat. Overloaded bins may not be collected.
Keep access clear
Position the bin so collection crews can reach it without blocking the pavement.
No extra side waste
Additional bags beside the bin are not ordinarily taken as part of the scheduled collection.
Correct bin only
Check whether pink-lid, green or black recycling is due before taking your bin outside.
Do not compact waste
Compacted material can become stuck inside the container and may damage the bin during emptying.
RMBC Missed Bin Collection: Check the Street Before Reporting
Rotherham Council maintains a missed-bin directory. If your street is already listed, the council is aware of the problem and says residents do not need to report it again.
Where the street is listed, the council advises residents to leave their bin out if safe to do so while crews arrange a return collection.
- Confirm the correct collection day. Use your household calendar or the Bins App to verify that the bin was scheduled.
- Check the missed-bin directory. Search for your street name on the council’s missed-collections page.
- If your street is listed, follow the council notice. Do not submit a duplicate report unless instructed otherwise.
- If it is not listed, check presentation. Make sure the bin was at the kerbside before 7am, was not overflowing and had the right contents.
- Report by the end of the next working day. Rotherham says household rubbish or recycling bins reported later will not normally be collected again until the next scheduled round.
- Keep the bin accessible if a return collection is arranged. Follow the instructions given through the reporting service.
What happens after a missed-bin report?
Once a valid report is accepted, the council can use collection records and the circumstances of the missed round to determine the appropriate response. A missed bin that was not presented correctly, contained the wrong waste or could not be emptied safely may have to wait until the next scheduled collection.
If your whole street was missed, follow the council’s published service update instead of submitting multiple requests for the same interruption.
Rotherham Brown Bin Garden Waste: 2026/27 Subscription
The brown-bin service is optional and chargeable. Rotherham collects subscribed garden waste fortnightly for much of the year and less frequently in winter, generally monthly.
Unlike ordinary green-bin paper recycling, a brown garden-waste bin needs a current paid subscription and visible proof-of-subscription sticker.
First brown bin
£53 for a new standard subscription.
Second brown bin
£43 for the additional subscribed bin.
Rothercard rate
£45.05 for a qualifying new customer’s first bin, under the council’s published decision.
Existing customer renewal arrangements
Rotherham’s December 2025 pricing decision also provided renewal-price protection for customers who held a current subscription and chose to renew. The published renewal figures were £49 for the first bin and £40 for the second bin, subject to the eligibility and discount arrangements applied by the council.
The standard prices, Rothercard concessions and renewal arrangements are not interchangeable. Check the amount displayed in your own online renewal or sign-up process before paying.
Brown-bin collection rules
- Display the valid annual subscription sticker clearly on the bin.
- Put the bin at the required kerbside point by 7am.
- Keep the lid completely closed.
- Do not compact garden waste or overload the container.
- Do not leave extra garden waste beside the brown bin.
- Keep food waste, soil, rubble, pet waste and stones out.
Bank Holidays, Bad Weather and RMBC Collection Changes
Normal collection dates can be affected by weather, blocked roads, operational problems or seasonal changes. A bank holiday does not establish a revised date by itself, so use the official calendar and council notices.
Bank holiday week
Check your assigned calendar and current council announcements before assuming your bin moves to another day.
Snow or icy conditions
Collections can be delayed when it is unsafe for crews or vehicles to access the road.
Christmas and New Year
Use the relevant 2026 festive information when published rather than copying dates from an earlier December.
Rotherham Household Waste Recycling Centres
Rotherham provides four Household Waste Recycling Centres for eligible household waste. They are useful for suitable additional materials that do not belong in ordinary wheelie bins.

Opening hours and upcoming changes
As of 14 October 2026, the council’s published site guidance gives summer opening as 10am–6:30pm from 1 April to 30 September, and winter opening as 10am–4pm from 1 October to 31 March.
However, on 8 October 2026 the council announced that from 28 October 2026, all four centres are scheduled to change to 9:30am–5pm, seven days a week, throughout the year. The announced exceptions are Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day.
Vehicle access and permits
- Sites are intended for Rotherham residents disposing of their own household waste.
- Pedestrian access is not permitted under the published site safety rules.
- Cars can use the sites subject to the relevant restrictions.
- Trailers, vans and pickups may need a council vehicle permit.
- Larger vans are not accepted at every site.
- Box vans and flatbed pickups are not permitted under the council’s published access table.
- Commercial or trade waste must not be taken to household recycling centres.
For vehicles requiring a permit, the council’s published conditions allow a permit book for up to six visits per year, subject to eligibility and vehicle restrictions. Check the specific site before making the journey.
Other Rotherham Waste Services
New or replacement bin
Use Rotherham Council’s rubbish and recycling services to request an eligible replacement or report a damaged container. The correct route depends on whether the bin is missing, damaged or needed for a new property.
Assisted collections
Residents who cannot move their bins because of disability, illness or mobility problems may be eligible to ask for assisted bin collection arrangements. The council assesses the relevant circumstances.
Bulky household waste
Large furniture, electrical appliances and other bulky items need a separate collection or appropriate HWRC route. Check accepted items, availability and charges before making arrangements.
Hazardous or specialist waste
Batteries, chemicals, sharps and some electrical items need specialist disposal. Do not hide hazardous materials inside an ordinary general-waste or recycling bin.

What happens if my street appears in the missed-bin list?
Rotherham Council says it is already aware of the issue, so a further individual report is not needed. Leave the bin accessible if it is safe to do so and follow the council’s instructions.

Rotherham Council provides four Household Waste Recycling Centres: Greasbrough, Bramley, Rawmarsh and North Anston. Check current opening hours and permit rules before visiting.
Check Your RMBC Collection Before Putting the Bin Out
Your next collection depends on the correct household calendar and scheduled bin colour. Use Rotherham Council’s app or the appropriate 2026 Week 1A, 1B, 2A or 2B calendar, and place the right bin at the kerbside before 7am.
If it is missed, check the council’s street directory first and report within the applicable deadline.
