Paisley Bin Collection: Dates, Calendar, Bin Colours & Missed Reports

Paisley household waste collections are managed by Renfrewshire Council. Collection days changed across Renfrewshire from 7 September 2026, so use the council’s live postcode checker rather than relying on a pre-September timetable.

Most homes can now have their grey general-waste bin collected on a different day from their blue, green or brown recycling bin. Your exact address calendar is therefore the safest way to know which container is due.

Paisley Bin Collection: Quick Answer

Check your current Paisley dates through Renfrewshire Council’s postcode-based collection calendar. From 7 September 2026, collection days changed across the council area and most homes can have recycling collected on one day and the grey general-waste bin on another.

Put the scheduled household bin on the pavement by 7am. Collection crews can operate until 6:30pm, so a bin should not be reported as missed before then.

New dates Active since 7 September 2026
Set-out time By 7am
Report missed After 6:30pm
Reporting window Within 2 days
Important 2026 change: if you saved an old collection date before September, check again. Renfrewshire Council changed household collection days across the area on Monday 7 September 2026. Most households now have two collection days rather than putting every bin out on the same day.

How to Check Your Paisley Bin Collection Date

Renfrewshire Council’s collection checker uses the property postcode to return upcoming bin dates. This should be your starting point because the September 2026 route changes altered collection days across the council area.

  1. Open the official bin collection checker.
Use Renfrewshire Council’s website rather than an unauthorised app or an old saved rota.
  2. Enter your postcode.
Select the correct Paisley property when the address results appear.
  3. Read the bin colour and date together.
Your grey bin may now be collected on a different day from the recycling bins.
  4. Save the new schedule.
The council lets households view their dates, download a schedule and use a digital calendar.
  5. Recheck after service changes.
Download a fresh calendar rather than continuing to use a schedule created before 7 September 2026.
Do not rely on unofficial bin apps. Renfrewshire Council specifically warns that unauthorised apps can provide incorrect collection information.

What Changed to Paisley Bin Collections in September 2026?

Renfrewshire Council introduced new collection days from Monday 7 September 2026. The frequency of the main services did not generally change; the major change was which day each bin is collected.

New days for every home

Every Renfrewshire household received new collection-day arrangements, including homes in Paisley.

Two collection days for many homes

Most households now have blue, green or brown recycling collected on one day and the grey general-waste bin on another.

Food-waste day may have changed

Homes with a weekly food-waste caddy service should use the new schedule to confirm the collection day.

Flats are different: the online checker cannot provide standard collection information for flats using bulk communal bins. Shared-bin arrangements are handled separately.

Paisley Bin Colours: Grey, Blue, Green and Brown

Grey bin

General waste

Use the grey bin for household rubbish that cannot be recycled, including items such as plastic bags, polystyrene, crisp wrappers, used tissues, cling film, nappies and some hard plastics.

Keep recyclable paper, card, plastics, cans, glass, food waste, electricals, batteries and vapes out.

Blue bin

Paper and cardboard

The blue bin is for clean, dry paper and card, including newspapers, magazines, office paper, cereal boxes, flattened cardboard and suitable envelopes.

Do not use it for wet or food-contaminated card, plastic packaging, shredded paper or ordinary rubbish.

Green bin

Plastics, cans and glass

The green recycling bin accepts listed plastic bottles, pots, tubs and trays, drinks cans, food tins, foil, aerosols and glass bottles and jars.

Put recyclable containers loose in the bin rather than placing them inside plastic bags.

Brown bin

Food and permitted garden waste

Food waste can use the brown-bin service where that route applies. Garden waste can only be added when the household has a current garden-waste permit.

Grass cuttings, leaves, weeds, flowers and small twigs are examples of permitted garden material.

Batteries and vapes: do not put them in ordinary household bins. Damaged batteries can cause fires during collection or processing.

Paisley Food Waste Collection

Food waste can be collected through a brown bin or an outdoor food-waste caddy, depending on the service assigned to the property. Check your collection calendar if you are unsure which setup applies.

Accepted food waste

  • Cooked and uncooked food
  • Fruit and vegetable peelings
  • Tea bags and coffee grounds
  • Eggshells
  • Meat, fish and small bones
  • Solid dairy products
  • Pet food

Keep these out

  • Plastic bags and packaging
  • Liquids
  • Cooking oil
  • Glass and metal
  • Paper and cardboard
  • Garden waste without the relevant brown-bin arrangement

Renfrewshire provides food-waste caddies and an annual supply of liners. Residents can also put food waste directly into the appropriate caddy or brown bin without a liner.

Paisley Collection-Day Rules That Can Stop a Bin Being Emptied

Put it out by 7am

Household bins need to be on the pavement at the collection point by 7am on the scheduled day.

Close the lid

An overfilled bin or a bin with the lid left open can be refused.

Sort the contents

Incorrect material in a recycling bin can prevent the crew from emptying it.

Keep access clear

Parked vehicles, roadworks, bad weather or another access problem can stop the collection vehicle reaching bins.

Collection-day timing: crews can collect between 7am and 6:30pm, so an unemptied bin is not ready for a missed-bin report earlier in the day.

Paisley Missed Bin: When and How to Report It

Renfrewshire Council says you should wait until after 6:30pm on the scheduled collection day before treating an ordinary household bin as missed.

  1. Check the new collection date.
Make sure you are using the post-7 September 2026 schedule for your property.
  2. Confirm the bin was out by 7am.
Late presentation can mean the crew has already passed.
  3. Check the lid, weight and contents.
Overfilling, excessive weight or unsuitable material can result in refusal.
  4. Check brown-bin permit status.
A brown bin containing garden waste must display a valid permit where the paid garden service applies.
  5. Wait until after 6:30pm.
Collection rounds can continue throughout the day.
  6. Report within two days.
Standard missed household collections need to be reported within two days of the scheduled collection.
Assisted-collection exception: if Renfrewshire Council helps you take your bin out, you can report a missed assisted collection within 14 days.

Paisley Garden Waste Permit 2026/27

Garden waste is a paid service. The current Renfrewshire permit costs £52 and is valid from 1 May 2026 to 30 April 2027.

£52 permit

The charge is fixed even if you join partway through the service year.

Permit sticker required

Attach the current permit to the brown bin so the collection crew can identify the paid garden-waste service.

Up to 15 working days

Renfrewshire advises allowing up to 15 working days for the permit to arrive after an application.

A household receiving a full 100% Council Tax Reduction, or the relevant severe-mental-impairment discount or exemption, can qualify for one free permit but still needs to apply.

No permit? you can still use the food-waste element of an eligible brown-bin service, but garden waste must not be mixed into the bin without a valid garden-waste permit.

Paisley Bulky Waste Collection: Current Charges

Renfrewshire Council provides a paid household collection service for items too large to fit in ordinary bins. Current charges depend on the type and number of items.

Paisley Household Waste Recycling Centre

Paisley Household Waste Recycling Centre is one of Renfrewshire Council’s five household recycling centres.

Paisley Household Waste Recycling Centre

Address:
Underwood Road
Paisley
PA3 1TL

Standard opening

8am–6pm, 7 days a week, with last entry at 5:45pm.

Resident access

Take proof that you live in Renfrewshire and photo identification when visiting.

Standard Paisley HWRC access is for cars. Larger vehicles such as vans, pickups and trailers use the permitted arrangements available through the Linwood site instead.

Household waste only: commercial waste is not accepted at Renfrewshire household recycling centres.

Paisley Flats and Communal Bins

Flats using bulk communal bins do not follow the standard online property calendar in the same way as houses with individual wheelie bins. Renfrewshire says bulk-bin collection information cannot currently be returned through the normal online checker.

Shared wheelie bins

Flats that share containers can have a different operational arrangement from individual houses.

Assisted collections

If the council already assists you with putting bins out, the service continues under the new September 2026 schedule without requiring a fresh application.

Residents remain responsible for keeping communal bin areas usable and accessible where the property arrangement requires this.

Paisley Town-Centre Businesses: Different Waste Rules

The household guidance on this page does not apply to commercial waste. Paisley town-centre businesses, charities and public-sector organisations have separate street-storage rules from 1 September 2026.

Collection windows

Commercial waste can be presented on streets or pavements during the permitted windows of 7am–10am and 4pm–8pm.

Enforcement from 1 October

Renfrewshire Council says enforcement starts on 1 October 2026 after the September soft-launch period.

Household residents: these commercial rules do not change the ordinary domestic bin calendar described elsewhere on this page.

Paisley collection days changed in September 2026, so the safest next step is to enter your postcode in Renfrewshire Council’s current collection checker and save the new dates for each bin colour.

Put the correct bin out by 7am. If it remains unemptied after 6:30pm, check for contamination, an open lid, excess weight, access problems or a missing garden-waste permit before submitting a missed-bin report.

Independent guide: BinCollectionGuide.org is not Renfrewshire Council. Live collection dates, missed-bin decisions, garden-waste permits, bulky-waste bookings and recycling-centre operations are controlled by the council.
