Poole Bin Collection: Calendar, Schedule & Missed Reports

Poole collection dates are linked to the road serving your property. Use BCP Council’s live bin-day checker to see the next rubbish, recycling, food-waste and subscribed garden-waste collections instead of counting weeks from an old calendar.

Standard household rubbish and recycling are each collected every two weeks on alternating weeks. Food waste is now collected every week across Poole.

Poole Bin Collection: Quick Answer

BCP Council collects household rubbish every two weeks and recycling every two weeks on the alternate week. Food waste is collected every week on the same collection day, although a separate crew may empty the food caddy.

Put rubbish, recycling and the outdoor food-waste container at the edge of the property by 5am. Use the council’s online checker to see your actual road collection dates and download a calendar.

How to Check Your Poole Bin Collection Day

BCP Council’s collection checker works from the road serving the property. If you want to present your bin on a different road, check that road separately because collection days can differ.

  1. Open BCP Council’s Check Your Bin Day service.
Use the live council calendar rather than an old screenshot or a neighbour’s timetable.
  2. Search for the property or road.
Confirm that you are looking at the correct Poole collection location.
  3. Check each waste stream.
Read the next rubbish, recycling, food-waste and garden-waste dates that apply.
  4. Download the calendar if useful.
The council allows residents to download their collection schedule.
  5. Recheck around festive periods.
Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day can interrupt the normal routine.
Best habit: bookmark the live BCP calendar. It is more reliable than manually calculating a fortnightly sequence when collections are disrupted.

Poole Bin Collection Schedule

The standard Poole household pattern is simple: rubbish one fortnight, recycling the other. Food waste runs every week, so the outdoor food caddy should be presented on both rubbish and recycling weeks.

Current Poole household collection pattern
Service Typical container Frequency Key collection rule
General rubbish 180L rubbish bin Every 2 weeks Put out by 5am with the lid closed.
Household recycling 240L recycling bin Every 2 weeks Loose recycling only; do not bag normal recyclables.
Food waste 23L outdoor food bin Every week Present on the same day as the main bin.
Garden waste 240L subscribed garden bin Every 2 weeks in season Separate paid service.
Some properties use authorised sacks instead of standard wheelie bins. Follow the collection arrangement assigned to your property rather than assuming every Poole household has identical containers.

Poole Rubbish Bin Rules

A standard household rubbish container is a 180-litre bin collected fortnightly. BCP Council also uses an authorised bag service for some properties that cannot use the normal bin arrangement.

Close the lid

The lid must close properly before collection.

No extra bags

Do not leave extra household rubbish bags beside the standard wheelie bin.

Do not overload

A bin that is too heavy to move safely to the collection vehicle may be left unemptied.

Ordinary rubbish can include items such as nappies, tissues, pet waste, polystyrene and other non-recyclable household materials. Batteries, vapes, hazardous waste, electrical items and construction waste should use the appropriate specialist or recycling-centre route instead.

What Goes in the Poole Recycling Bin?

Recycling should be clean, dry, empty and placed loose in the recycling bin. Food or liquid left in containers can contaminate otherwise usable paper and card.

Paper & cardboard

  • Newspapers and magazines
  • Envelopes
  • Cereal boxes
  • Corrugated cardboard
  • Non-foil wrapping paper

Rigid plastics & cartons

  • Plastic bottles
  • Pots and tubs
  • Plastic trays
  • Tetra Pak cartons

Metal & glass

  • Tins and cans
  • Aerosols
  • Clean foil
  • Glass bottles and jars
Keep batteries and vapes out of both household bins. They can cause fires in collection vehicles and waste facilities. Flexible plastic bags and wrapping are also not currently accepted in Poole’s kerbside recycling bin.

Weekly Food Waste Collections in Poole

Weekly food-waste collections were extended across Poole in 2026. Individual households are generally supplied with a 7-litre indoor kitchen caddy and a 23-litre outdoor food-waste container.

Food waste is collected on the same day as rubbish or recycling but can be emptied by a separate crew. Keep the outdoor caddy visible and accessible even if the main wheelie bin has already been collected.

Food that can go in

  • Meat, fish and bones
  • Fruit and vegetable peelings
  • Dairy products
  • Bread, cakes and pastries
  • Cooked leftovers
  • Tea bags and coffee grounds
  • Pasta, rice and eggshells

Keep these out

  • Plastic carrier bags
  • Nappies
  • Food packaging
  • Garden waste
  • Pet waste
  • Liquids and cooking oil
Flats using communal waste services can have a shared outdoor food-waste bin rather than an individual 23-litre container.

Poole Missed Bin: When and How to Report It

BCP Council crews can collect between 5am and 9pm, so do not report an individual bin as missed during the collection day. Wait until the next working day.

A missed collection must be reported within 2 working days of the normal collection day. If the report is accepted as a genuine missed collection, BCP Council says it aims to return within 5 working days.

  1. Confirm the collection was due.
Check your current road calendar first.
  2. Wait until the next working day.
Crews can operate until 9pm, so a bin is not treated as missed earlier in the day.
  3. Check the council’s missed-road list.
If the whole road was missed, BCP Council may already know and you do not need to submit another report.
  4. Check how the bin was presented.
It should have been out by 5am, visible at the edge of the property and accessible to the crew.
  5. Check contents, weight and lid.
Incorrect recycling, unsuitable garden waste, compacted rubbish or an overweight bin can cause collection to be refused.
  6. Report within 2 working days.
Use BCP Council’s online missed-bin service if the collection appears to be a genuine miss.
If the bin was not correctly presented or contained material the council cannot collect, the crew will not normally return before the next scheduled collection.
If your road appears on BCP Council’s known missed-bin list, leave the bin out. The council says it will return to collect affected bins without residents submitting duplicate reports.

Poole Bank Holiday, Christmas and New Year Collections

BCP Council’s standard rubbish and recycling guidance states that collections do not take place on Christmas Day, Boxing Day or New Year’s Day.

Do not reuse a festive collection table from a previous year. Holiday arrangements can shift surrounding collection dates, so check the live Poole calendar when the council publishes the relevant Christmas and New Year timetable.

For ordinary bank holidays outside the Christmas and New Year closure period, use the live road calendar rather than assuming the collection has automatically moved by one day.

Poole Garden Waste Collection 2026

BCP Council’s 2026 garden-waste service runs fortnightly from 26 January 2026 until the week ending 11 December 2026. The published 2026 price is £71 per bin.

Applications for the 2026 service are currently closed. BCP Council says applications for the 2027 service will open in October.

£71 per bin

The 2026 charge applies to each subscribed garden-waste bin.

Every 2 weeks

Subscribed bins are emptied fortnightly on the collection day allocated to the property.

No late-season discount

BCP Council does not reduce the annual charge for residents joining after the service year has begun.

What can go in the garden-waste bin?

  • Grass cuttings
  • Hedge and shrub clippings
  • Plants and weeds
  • Leaves
  • Twigs
  • Small branches and bark
  • Cut flowers
  • Houseplants
Do not put soil, turf, plastic bags, food waste, stones, rubble, animal waste, large logs or invasive weeds such as Japanese knotweed into the garden-waste bin.

Missing or Damaged Bins in Poole

BCP Council currently lists a standard rubbish bin, recycling bin and outside food-waste container for individual properties, with a garden-waste bin where the household subscribes.

The council currently charges £45 for a replacement rubbish bin and £55 for a replacement recycling bin where the replacement charge applies. Replacement food-waste containers are provided free of charge.

BCP Council is currently warning of high demand for bin deliveries, with some replacements taking around 30 to 40 days. Check around the property and neighbouring homes before reporting a bin as missing.

Poole Bulky Waste Collection

BCP Council offers a paid household bulky-waste collection for items such as beds, mattresses, sofas and fridges that cannot fit into the standard kerbside bin.

First item: £41

The current published charge is £41 for the first bulky item.

Additional item: £11

Each additional booked item currently costs £11.

Items must be outside the property and easy for the collection team to access before 7:30am on the booked day. They should be empty, clean, dry and freestanding.

The standard service does not accept items such as asbestos, chemicals, soil, rubble, commercial waste, vehicle parts or ordinary bags of household rubbish.

Poole Recycling Centre: Nuffield Road

Poole Recycling Centre is at 92 to 98 Nuffield Road, Poole, BH17 0RS. BCP Council residents can use the site, and an appointment is not normally required.

April to September

Open daily from 9am to 5pm. Last entry is 15 minutes before closing.

October to March

Open daily from 9am to 4pm. Last entry is 15 minutes before closing.

Bank holidays

The centre normally opens on bank holidays except Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day.

Residents can take many materials including garden waste, metal, batteries, electrical items, excess recycling, excess household rubbish, furniture, mattresses, white goods, tyres and limited DIY waste.

BCP residents currently receive a limited weekly free allowance for qualifying DIY waste. Material above that allowance can be chargeable, so check the current council charging table before travelling with rubble, plasterboard, asbestos or similar DIY material.
