Haringey Bin Collection: Dates, Calendar & Bin Colours
Start with your exact Haringey address rather than guessing from a nearby street. Standard kerbside homes normally have weekly recycling and food-waste collections, while non-recyclable household waste is collected every other week.
Have the correct containers available by 6am. Garden waste is a separate paid weekly service for subscribed households, and estates, communal blocks and flats above shops can follow different container and presentation arrangements.
Haringey Bin Collection: Quick Answer
Use Haringey’s waste-services portal to check the collection schedule attached to your property. For a standard kerbside home, dry recycling is normally collected weekly, food waste weekly and non-recyclable waste every other week. Put containers where crews can safely access them by 6am on collection day.
Do not rely on colour alone if you live in a block, estate or flat above a shop. Communal containers and sack services can differ from the setup used by ordinary houses, so follow the labels, calendar and instructions for your own property.

How to Check Your Haringey Bin Collection Date
The collection weekday and alternating rubbish week depend on the property. Haringey’s waste portal is therefore more useful than a generic borough-wide timetable.
-
Open the Haringey waste-services portal.
Use the council and Veolia service rather than an old screenshot, saved social post or another household’s calendar. -
Search for your property.
Select the exact address so the result reflects the collection round serving your home. -
Check each waste stream separately.
Recycling may be due every week while non-recyclable waste appears only on alternate weeks. -
Use the current service guide or calendar.
If a downloadable annual calendar is available for your round, make sure it covers the current service year before saving or printing it.
Haringey Bin Collection Calendar 2026
Current 2026 Haringey service guides show the standard kerbside pattern as weekly recycling and food waste with non-recyclable waste collected every other week. Individual calendars identify which alternate week includes the general-waste collection.
| Service | Normal frequency | Container / setup | Important check |
|---|---|---|---|
| Non-recyclable waste | Every other week | Household refuse container | Confirm whether your calendar is on the collection week. |
| Mixed recycling | Weekly | Green-lidded / green recycling container or approved sacks where applicable | Keep unsuitable materials and black sacks out. |
| Food waste | Weekly | Property-specific food-waste container | Remove food packaging before recycling food. |
| Garden waste | Weekly in the 2026–27 subscribed service | Brown bin or subscribed biodegradable sacks | Only active subscribers receive this collection. |
Haringey Bin Colours: What Each Container Is For
Haringey does not have one container-colour rule that safely describes every house, estate and flat. Standard kerbside homes commonly use a dark household rubbish bin and a green-lidded or green recycling bin, while communal arrangements can use different colours and sizes.
Dark household bin
For ordinary household material that cannot be recycled through the available recycling, food, garden or specialist collection routes.
Green / green-lidded bin
Standard kerbside mixed recycling includes suitable paper, card, cans, glass, cartons and accepted plastic packaging.
Food-waste container
Use the food container supplied for your property. Food should be separated from packaging before it is added.
Brown garden bin
Used by households subscribed to Haringey’s paid garden-waste collection service.
What Goes in Haringey Recycling?
Common accepted recycling
- Paper and cardboard
- Glass bottles and jars
- Food and drink cans
- Suitable plastic bottles
- Plastic pots, tubs and trays
- Food and drink cartons
- Suitable foil and aerosols
Common contamination problems
- Food left inside containers
- Black rubbish sacks
- Food waste
- Nappies
- Polystyrene
- Textiles
- Electrical items
Empty food or drink residue before adding packaging to recycling. If unsuitable material contaminates the bin, the collection crew can leave the container unemptied.
Haringey’s 6am Bin Collection Rules
Collection vehicles can arrive early. Current Haringey service material asks residents to make bins available by 6am on the scheduled collection day.
Ready by 6am
Do not wait until you hear the collection vehicle. Present the correct containers before the round begins.
Keep access clear
Crews need to be able to see and safely reach the container without obstruction.
Close the lid
Do not overfill the residual bin or leave ordinary general-waste sacks beside it.
Haringey’s service guide also asks residents not to place ordinary kerbside bins on the pavement unnecessarily. Keep them accessible from within the property boundary or use the collection point specified for your property.
Haringey Missed Bin: What to Do
If a collection has not happened, first make sure the container was actually due. A weekly recycling collection does not mean the fortnightly non-recyclable bin is also emptied every week.
-
Check your property calendar.
Confirm the missed waste stream was scheduled for that date. -
Check presentation.
Make sure the container was available by 6am and crews had clear access. -
Look for contamination or overfilling.
Incorrect recycling, excess non-recyclable side waste or another presentation problem can prevent collection. -
Report promptly.
Current Veolia guidance says missed collections should be reported on the next working day or within two working days of the scheduled collection.
Haringey Flats, Estates and Flats Above Shops
Residents using communal bins should follow the labels, storage arrangement and collection point for their block rather than copying the wheelie-bin routine of nearby houses.
Communal blocks
Shared rubbish, recycling and food-waste containers can use a different layout and colour system from ordinary kerbside homes.
Flats above shops
Where residents use sacks instead of communal bins, presentation times can be controlled by local timed-collection instructions.
Green recycling sacks
Veolia states that residents of flats above shops without suitable bins can collect green recycling sacks from local libraries with proof of address.
Haringey Garden Waste Collection 2026–27
Garden waste is an optional paid service. The current service year runs to 31 March 2027, and Veolia states that subscribed garden waste is collected weekly during the current 2026–27 service.
The price is not reduced if you join later in the service year. Bin customers can use the available annual Direct Debit option, while the sack service follows its own payment arrangement.
Typical accepted garden material
- Grass cuttings
- Leaves
- Hedge clippings
- Small prunings
- Flowers and plants
Keep out
- Soil and rubble
- Plastic plant pots
- General rubbish
- Food packaging
- Excess waste beside the subscribed bin
Haringey Bulky Waste Collection
Haringey’s household bulky-item service is useful for furniture, white goods and other eligible items that should not be left beside normal bins.
£20 minimum charge
The current service collects up to four eligible bulky items for £20.
£10 extra item
Items five to ten are charged at £10 per additional item.
10-item maximum
A single booking can contain a maximum of ten chargeable items.
Veolia counts five tied standard bags as one bulky item. Bags should be no larger than 80 litres and must be safe to lift without splitting.
Lost, Stolen or Damaged Haringey Bin
Veolia currently lists a £35 charge for replacing a lost, stolen or damaged standard household wheelie bin. Residents are encouraged to mark the container with the house number or property name to reduce mix-ups after collection.
Western Road Reuse and Recycling Centre
For suitable household material that cannot go through normal collections, Haringey residents can use the North London Waste Authority’s Western Road Reuse and Recycling Centre.

Haringey Bank Holiday Bin Collections
Veolia’s current Haringey guidance says there are no household or flat waste and recycling collections on Bank Holiday Mondays or Fridays. Affected collections move one day later.
Bank Holiday Monday
Collections for that week move across Tuesday to Saturday rather than running on the usual Monday-to-Friday pattern.
Bank Holiday Friday
The Friday collection moves to Saturday, while earlier collections in that week are not moved solely because Friday is a bank holiday.
Christmas and New Year use specifically published festive arrangements. Do not reuse a previous year’s Christmas timetable; check the current calendar for your address before putting bins out.
Important: Haringey Has Approved Waste-Service Changes for 2027
Haringey Council has approved changes intended to take effect with the next waste contract from 2027. These future arrangements include borough-wide weekly food-waste collection, smaller 180-litre non-recyclable bins for kerbside properties and a move from weekly to fortnightly garden-waste collection.
In April 2026 the council also approved funding to expand food-waste collections to thousands of additional homes, including flats above shops. If your property does not yet show a food-waste collection, use the live waste portal or contact the service instead of assuming a collection date.

The Simplest Haringey Bin Routine
Check your exact property, note which stream is due and make the correct container accessible by 6am. Remember that recycling normally appears every week while non-recyclable waste is normally every other week.
If a collection is missed, check the schedule and presentation first, then report promptly through the Haringey waste-services portal. Flats, estates, garden-waste subscribers and timed sack collections should always follow their property-specific instructions.
Independent guide: BinCollectionGuide.org is not Haringey Council, Veolia or North London Waste Authority. Collection records, reports, payments, subscriptions and recycling-centre rules should be completed or confirmed through the relevant official service.
