Sevenoaks Bin Collection: Calendar, Schedule & Missed Reports
Check your exact Sevenoaks collection day before putting waste out. The district is in a major service transition: weekly black-sack and recycling-bag collections continue through Friday 9 October 2026, while most households move to alternate-week wheelie-bin collections from Monday 12 October.
Food waste remains weekly. Garden waste is a separate fortnightly subscription service. If a scheduled collection is missed, Sevenoaks District Council allows reports after 4pm on collection day and expects eligible reports by the end of the next working day.
Sevenoaks Bin Collection: Quick Answer
Use Sevenoaks District Council’s live collection-day checker for your property. Put the scheduled rubbish, recycling, food-waste caddy or subscribed garden waste at the property boundary by 7am. The council says containers should not normally be put out before 6pm the evening before.
The schedule changes on 12 October 2026. Until 9 October, general waste and recycling remain weekly for the normal sack/bag service. From 12 October, most households move to alternate weeks: general waste one week and recycling the next. Food waste continues weekly.

How to Check Your Sevenoaks Bin Collection Day
Collection dates are property-specific. Do not rely on a neighbour’s day, an old screenshot or a generic timetable when the council provides a live address-based lookup.
-
Open Sevenoaks District Council’s collection-day page.
Use the official lookup rather than an old printed calendar. -
Search for your address.
Select the exact house, flat or named property where possible. -
Check each collection stream separately.
Rubbish, recycling, food waste and garden waste can be handled by different vehicles. -
Check the date again around bank holidays.
Sevenoaks can move collection dates during holiday weeks. -
Have the correct container ready by 7am.
Place it at the property boundary nearest the normal collection point.
Sevenoaks Bin Collection Schedule Before and After 12 October 2026
The most important detail in the 2026 calendar is that Sevenoaks has two different collection systems during the year. The weekly sack-and-bag system remains in place through 9 October, then most properties change to wheelie bins and alternate-week recycling and rubbish collections.
| Service | Up to 9 October 2026 | From 12 October 2026 | Frequency |
|---|---|---|---|
| General waste | Black sacks | 180-litre black wheelie bin for most households | Weekly before change; every two weeks after change |
| Recycling | Reusable recycling bag or clear sacks | 240-litre black wheelie bin with green lid for most households | Weekly before change; every two weeks after change |
| Food waste | Black outdoor caddy with orange lid | Continues separately | Weekly |
| Garden waste | Subscribed wheelie bin or council garden-waste sacks | Subscription continues; some collection weeks change | Fortnightly |
What Changes on 12 October 2026?
Black wheelie bin
Most households move from weekly black sacks to a 180-litre black general-waste wheelie bin collected every two weeks.
Green-lidded wheelie bin
Most homes receive a 240-litre black wheelie bin with a green lid. Recycling is collected every two weeks on the opposite week to general waste.
Weekly collection stays
Food waste continues as a separate weekly service, even after the general-waste and recycling cycle changes.
Glass joins the kerbside recycling stream
The new recycling wheelie-bin service includes glass bottles and jars alongside other accepted dry recycling, removing the need for participating households to rely on a bottle bank for normal household glass.
Which Bin, Bag or Caddy Should You Put Out?
General household rubbish
Until 9 October, the standard system uses black sacks. From 12 October, most participating properties switch to the council-provided black wheelie bin.
Dry recycling
Before the change, use the current recycling bag/sack system. From 12 October, most homes use the green-lidded wheelie bin for accepted glass, paper, card, cans, tins, cartons and accepted plastic packaging.
Food waste
Use the outdoor black food-waste caddy with the orange lid where the service is provided. It is emptied weekly.
Garden waste
Garden waste is not part of the standard general-waste service. Use the subscribed garden-waste wheelie bin or approved garden-waste sacks according to your chosen service.
Sevenoaks Missed Bin or Waste Collection: When Can You Report It?
Sevenoaks District Council says different vehicles collect food waste, recycling, general waste and garden waste, so one stream may be emptied earlier than another. Wait until after 4pm on collection day before treating a due collection as missed.
Check these points before submitting a report
-
Was the collection actually due?
Recheck the official collection calendar, especially around a bank holiday. -
Was it out before 7am?
Late presentation can mean the crew has already passed. -
Was it at the property boundary?
Place waste in the visible agreed position nearest the normal collection point. -
Was the correct container used?
Check that the bag, bin or caddy matches the waste stream due that day. -
Was there a rejection reason?
Check for contamination, excess weight, overflowing material, an open lid, side waste or a crew sticker. -
Was access clear?
Cars, locked gates and other obstacles can prevent collection. -
Report within the deadline.
If all checks are satisfied and the collection was genuinely missed, use the official form before the next-working-day deadline expires.
Sevenoaks Food Waste Collection
Weekly food-waste collections began for most households in April 2026. Participating households use a small indoor caddy and a larger outdoor black caddy with an orange lid. The outdoor caddy is the one presented for collection.
Collection frequency
Food waste is collected every week and remains weekly after the 12 October wheelie-bin change.
Collection morning
Place the outdoor caddy at the property boundary by 7am alongside the other stream due that day.
Sevenoaks Garden Waste Collection and 2026 Prices
Garden waste is an optional paid service collected every two weeks. The council currently offers annual wheelie-bin permits as well as approved disposable garden-waste sacks.
| Option | Current price | Capacity / service | Important detail |
|---|---|---|---|
| 240L bin permit | £65 a year | 240-litre council-loaned bin | Fortnightly; service runs 48 weeks with a Christmas/New Year break |
| 140L bin permit | £48 a year | Smaller council-loaned bin | Designed for smaller gardens or limited storage |
| Garden sacks | £29 for 25 | Up to 80 litres per sack | Only council-approved garden-waste sacks are collected |
Flats, Communal Bins and Wheelie-Bin Exemptions
The October wheelie-bin change does not mean every property will receive exactly the same containers. Sevenoaks says a small number of homes, including some flats above shops and properties without suitable storage or vehicle access, will not use the standard wheelie-bin system.
Communal properties
Use the shared bins and agreed collection point provided for the building. Do not apply a normal kerbside-house schedule automatically.
Exempt properties
The council says affected households will be told what type of collection and frequency applies to them.
Assisted Collections and Different Bin Sizes
Residents who cannot move bins or caddies because of illness, disability or mobility problems can apply for an assisted collection. Where approved, the council can collect and return containers from an agreed location within the property boundary.
A different bin size may also be considered in qualifying circumstances, including larger households, certain medical-waste needs or very limited storage. Sevenoaks may ask for supporting information or assess the property before agreeing to a change.
Sofas, Mattresses and Other Large Household Items
Large furniture and appliances should not be left beside normal household bins. Sevenoaks District Council operates a separate household large-item collection service, and reusable items may be better suited to donation or reuse.
Reuse first
Consider donation, resale or a local reuse scheme when the item remains usable.
Retailer take-back
When buying a replacement appliance or mattress, check whether the retailer can remove the old item.
Council booking
Use the official large-item service for eligible household items and follow the booking instructions before placing anything outside.
Sevenoaks Household Waste Recycling Centre
Household recycling centres in Kent are managed by Kent County Council, not Sevenoaks District Council. The Sevenoaks Household Waste Recycling Centre is at Main Road, Dunbrik, Sundridge, TN14 6EP.

Sevenoaks Bank Holiday and Christmas Collection Changes
Do not assume a normal weekday collection will always remain unchanged during a bank-holiday week. Sevenoaks publishes temporary date changes through its collection-day service.
Make Sure Sevenoaks District Council Actually Collects Your Waste
“Sevenoaks” can refer to the town or the wider district. Household waste collections covered by this page are the responsibility of Sevenoaks District Council. Do not apply these rules to an address served by a neighbouring authority.
Live north of the Sevenoaks District boundary?
Some nearby addresses are served by the London Borough of Bromley, which uses a different collection system. If your council is Bromley, use our Bromley Bin Collection guide instead.

How do I find my Sevenoaks bin collection day?
Use Sevenoaks District Council’s collection-day checker, search for your property and confirm the dates shown for rubbish, recycling, food waste and any subscribed garden-waste service.
What time should waste be put out in Sevenoaks?
Put the scheduled bags, bins or caddies at the property boundary by 7am. The council says they should not normally be put out before 6pm on the evening before collection.
When do Sevenoaks wheelie-bin collections start?
For most households, the new rubbish and recycling wheelie-bin service starts on Monday 12 October 2026. The existing weekly sack and recycling-bag arrangement runs through Friday 9 October.
How often will Sevenoaks bins be collected from 12 October 2026?
Most participating households will have general waste every two weeks and recycling every two weeks on the opposite week. Food waste continues every week. Garden waste remains a separate fortnightly subscription service.
When can I report a missed collection in Sevenoaks?
You can report a collection after 4pm on the scheduled day if it still has not been completed. Sevenoaks currently requires the report within one working day after the collection day.
Why was my Sevenoaks bin not emptied?
Common reasons include late presentation, the wrong collection day, contamination, an overflowing or excessively heavy container, side waste, a blocked collection point or another access problem. Check these before reporting the collection as missed.
Does every Sevenoaks property get the new wheelie bins?
No. Sevenoaks says a small number of properties, including some flats above shops and homes without suitable storage or access, will not use the standard wheelie-bin arrangement. The council will confirm the collection setup for affected properties.
Is Sevenoaks garden waste collected every week?
No. The optional garden-waste service is normally fortnightly. It requires a valid subscription or the correct council garden-waste sacks, depending on the service option used.
Do I need to book Sevenoaks recycling centre?
Yes. Kent County Council currently requires visitors to book a slot before using the Sevenoaks Household Waste Recycling Centre at Main Road, Dunbrik, Sundridge.
What to Do Next
Start with the official Sevenoaks collection-day checker and save the dates for your exact property. For collections before 12 October 2026, continue following the current sack-and-bag arrangement unless the council has given your property different instructions.
From 12 October, most households should follow their new alternate-week wheelie-bin calendar. If a due collection remains uncollected after 4pm, check presentation and eligibility before using the official missed-collection service.
