Cornwall Bin Collection 2026: Dates, Calendar & Christmas

Find Your Cornwall Collection Date, Correct Waste Stream and Current Calendar

Cornwall now collects household food waste every week, while rubbish and recycling are collected every two weeks on alternating weeks. Your exact date still depends on your property, so use Cornwall Council’s My Area service before putting anything out.

This guide covers collection-day checks, the coloured recycling bags, 7am presentation, missed collections, Christmas 2026, garden waste prices, assisted collections, bulky waste, holiday lets, replacement containers and tip bookings.

Cornwall Bin Collection: Quick Answer

Check Cornwall Council My Area for your exact property. Food waste is collected weekly. Household rubbish and recycling are each collected fortnightly on opposite weeks. Put the correct containers at the usual collection point, normally the property boundary, by 7am.

Knowing only your usual weekday is not enough. If Tuesday is your collection day, one Tuesday may be rubbish week and the next scheduled fortnight may be recycling week. Read the actual date and waste stream together.

Recycling Every 2 weeks

How to Check Your Cornwall Bin Collection Date

Cornwall is too large for one countywide date table. My Area gives the useful answer because it links the collection information to the exact property.

  1. Open Cornwall Council My Area.
Use the council service rather than an old screenshot, neighbourhood Facebook post or generic postcode calendar.
  2. Enter the property postcode.
Use the postcode of the home receiving the household collection.
  3. Select the exact address.
This is important for rural properties, flats, shared developments and neighbouring homes with different access arrangements.
  4. Read the date and waste stream together.
Confirm whether the fortnightly collection is rubbish or recycling. Food waste remains weekly.
  5. View or download the property calendar.
Save it for planning, but return to the live page around Christmas, disruption or a service change.
Useful habit: bookmark My Area instead of relying indefinitely on a saved screenshot. A live property calendar is easier to recheck when a date changes.

Cornwall Bin Collection 2026 Schedule

The service frequencies below are the normal current pattern for domestic household collections. The actual dates still come from your address calendar.

Cornwall household collection frequencies and presentation rules
Service Normal frequency Container What to remember
Food waste Weekly Green outdoor food caddy Put out by 7am every scheduled week.
Recycling Every 2 weeks Orange, red and blue bags plus black box Runs on the opposite fortnight to household rubbish.
Rubbish Every 2 weeks Council-provided wheelie bin or protective sack Use the allocated container with the lid closed.
Garden waste Every 2 weeks Subscribed Cornwall Council brown bin or bag Paid domestic subscription required.
Clinical waste Weekly where registered Approved clinical bags / sharps route Separate specialist service for qualifying hazardous or infectious waste.
Different crews may arrive at different times. Cornwall Council states that household rubbish and food waste can be collected by separate crews, so one being emptied does not mean the other has been missed.

Which Cornwall Recycling Bag or Box Should You Use?

Cornwall asks households to separate dry recycling into reusable coloured bags and a black box. Shared-bin properties can have different physical containers, but residents should still follow the labels and material streams provided at the site.

Orange bag

Cardboard and the accepted paper/card items listed for this stream.

Red bag

Plastic packaging, cartons and metal packaging.

Blue bag

Paper.

Black box

Glass bottles and jars plus accepted textiles.

Do not guess unusual items. Cornwall Council maintains a Recycling A–Z because not every product carrying a recycling symbol belongs in the household kerbside service.

Cornwall Food Waste Collection: Weekly Caddy Rules

Food waste is collected every week, including the weeks when either rubbish or dry recycling is due. Put the green outdoor food caddy at the normal collection point by 7am with the lid closed and the handle pulled forward to latch it.

Food waste can include

  • Plate scrapings and uneaten food
  • Fruit and vegetable peelings
  • Meat and bones
  • Fish and suitable bones
  • Bread, cakes and pastries
  • Rice, pasta and beans
  • Eggs and eggshells
  • Tea bags and coffee grounds

Keep out

  • Garden waste
  • Pet waste
  • Nappies
  • Clinical waste
  • Large quantities of liquids, oils or fats
  • Non-food material

What to Do With Extra Recycling

Cornwall does not limit ordinary household recycling simply to the capacity of one standard set of bags and a box. Additional or replacement containers can be ordered, and the council also gives presentation options for occasional extra material.

Extra cardboard

Flatten it, tie it into a manageable bundle and leave it with the normal recycling.

Extra plastics, cans and tins

Place accepted extra material in a carrier bag and leave it with the normal recycling.

Extra paper

Accepted extra paper can also be put in a carrier bag alongside the normal recycling.

Ordered containers not arrived? Cornwall says not to submit a duplicate order if recycling containers have not arrived within 8 calendar days. Use the order-update route with the reference number from the confirmation email.

Cornwall Missed Bin Collection: When and How to Report It

A bin still being outside in the afternoon is not automatically a missed collection. Cornwall’s rounds can operate until 6pm, so first check the property calendar and whether the rest of the street is still waiting.

  1. Check the correct week.
Rubbish and recycling are fortnightly, so make sure the stream was actually due.
  2. Confirm it was ready by 7am.
The collection contractor can check vehicle tracking and onboard CCTV when investigating a report.
  3. Check the presentation.
Look for the wrong container, mixed recycling, excessive weight, an open lid or material the household service cannot take.
  4. Wait until the collection round has finished.
If nearby properties are also waiting, the vehicle may simply be running later than usual.
  5. Submit the council report if it is genuinely missed.
Keep the waste available while the contractor checks the report.

What happens after a valid missed-collection report?

Monday–Friday report If confirmed as correctly presented and missed, the contractor says it will return by 6pm the next day.
Weekend report If confirmed as a genuine miss, the stated return point is by 6pm Monday.
Already reported? Do not submit the same report again. Use the update service with your 12-digit reference number.
Common refusal: household rubbish presented in a brown garden-waste bin will not be treated as normal rubbish. Garden waste is collected on a separate service.

Cornwall Bin Collection Christmas 2026

Do not use the Christmas timetable currently shown on Cornwall Council’s festive page as a Christmas 2026 timetable. At this 22 September 2026 update, that page still displays the previous festive sequence beginning Monday 22 December and ending Saturday 3 January, and the page shows a last-updated date of 12 January 2026.

Those weekday/date combinations relate to the previous Christmas and New Year period, so this guide does not relabel them as December 2026 dates. Check My Area and the council Christmas page again when the new festive arrangements are published.

Cornwall Assisted Bin Collections

Assisted collection is available where nobody in the household can move the waste to the normal property boundary because of an eligible physical disability, mobility problem, medical condition or mental-health condition.

What changes?

Crew members can collect the waste from an agreed accessible outside point closer to the home, such as near a door or suitable garden location.

The collection point must remain accessible and cannot be inside a shed or garage.

How long can assistance last?

Cornwall offers periods of 1, 3, 6, 9 or 12 months, with an open-ended option for a permanent qualifying need.

The council advises choosing the shortest suitable period because the service can be extended later.

Setup time: Cornwall Council currently says an approved assisted collection takes about 2 working days to set up.

Cornwall Bulky Waste: Current Prices and Booking Rules

Cornwall’s household bulky service is for domestic items too large for the normal rubbish or recycling collection. Pricing depends on whether the item is classed as standard, small special or large special.

Current Cornwall household bulky waste charges
Category Price Booking rule
Standard items £44 for first 4 Up to 4 additional standard items at £16 each.
Small special item £35 each Can be booked alone or added to an order.
Large special item £53 each Can be booked alone or added to an order.

Up to 8 items

An order can contain up to eight items in any permitted combination of price categories.

One order per week

If you need more than eight items collected, a further order must be placed the following week.

Set postcode day

Bulky waste is collected once a week in each postcode area on a designated day.

Temporary service issue: Cornwall Council’s current bulky-waste page says fridges and freezers are temporarily unavailable for this collection because of a national recycling issue. Check the live page before paying or arranging another disposal route.
Bulky collections normally operate Monday to Friday including bank holidays, but not on Christmas Day or Boxing Day.

Missing, Broken or Replacement Cornwall Bins and Bags

Rubbish bin or protective sack

Use the replacement service if the allocated wheelie bin, outdoor food caddy or protective rubbish sack is damaged through normal use or has gone missing after collection.

Recycling bags and black box

Extra or replacement orange, red and blue recycling bags, black boxes and green outdoor food caddies can be ordered through the recycling-container service.

Cornwall does not currently provide replacement silver indoor food caddies through the recycling-container order service.

Holiday Lets Cannot Use Cornwall Household Bin Collections for Guest Waste

Cornwall Council’s household collection is for domestic household waste. Businesses and non-domestic properties are not eligible, including self-catering and holiday-let accommodation.

This still applies if the home is only rented out for part of the year. Waste produced by guests or a business must be separated from personal household waste and handled through a licensed commercial-waste service.

Cornwall Council also operates a commercial collection service, and some council-tax-rated properties may qualify for its commercial pricing arrangements.

Clinical Waste: What Goes in Normal Rubbish and What Needs a Separate Collection?

Not every healthcare-related item needs Cornwall’s specialist clinical service. Non-infectious items such as ordinary nappies, incontinence pads, stoma bags and some dressings can normally be double-bagged and placed in household rubbish.

Infectious, cytotoxic or cytostatic waste must not go in ordinary household rubbish. Cornwall provides separate clinical collections, including one-off and weekly options for appropriate waste.

Sharps bins also use a specialist collection route. Replacement sharps containers need to come from the healthcare provider or pharmacy rather than the collection crew.

Cornwall Household Waste and Recycling Centres

Cornwall has 14 Household Waste and Recycling Centres for appropriate household items that cannot use the normal kerbside service, including many electrical, metal, wood and other materials.
