Check Your Sutton Collection Day, 2026 Calendar and Missed Bin Route
Start with your exact address. Sutton collection dates are property-specific, and some rounds changed after the newer Veolia service began, so an old calendar or a neighbour’s routine can be wrong.
Use this guide for the live collection checker, 6am set-out rule, 6pm missed-bin threshold, recycling streams, flats, garden waste, container charges, small items, bulky waste and Kimpton Park Way.
Sutton Bin Collection Days: What to Do First
There is no reliable borough-wide answer such as “Sutton bins are Tuesday”. Your exact property determines the day and collection setup.
Use your postcode
Search the official Sutton checker and select the exact house, flat or building.
Check the material
General waste, paper/card, containers recycling, food waste and garden waste have different patterns.
Before 6am
Put the correct containers at the front boundary before 6am.
After 6pm only
Do not report a normal missed household collection before crews finish the collection window.
If you searched “Sutton bin collection day”, “Sutton bin collection schedule” or “Sutton bin collection 2026”, the official address checker is the safest first action.
How to Find Your Sutton Bin Collection Day by Address
Use these steps rather than guessing from an old screenshot, postcode district or neighbour’s bin.
Open Sutton’s official collection-day page
Use the council’s live service whenever the exact next date matters.
Enter your full postcode
Do not use only SM1, SM2, SM3, SM5 or SM6.
Select the exact property
Property type matters because houses, communal flats and flats above shops can receive different services.
Write down both date and material
Knowing “Thursday” is not enough if the wrong recycling stream is presented.
Save the current calendar
Use it as a reminder, but return to the live checker when moving home or during festive service changes.
Sutton Bin Collection Calendar 2026 and Timetable
Sutton’s 2026 timetable should be read at property level. The council’s annual calendar route is linked to your address; one route calendar must not be treated as a borough-wide timetable.
| Standard house service | Frequency | Typical container | Action |
|---|---|---|---|
| Food waste | Weekly | Outdoor lockable food caddy | Present before 6am |
| General waste | Every 2 weeks | Brown wheelie bin | One normal general-waste bin per property |
| Paper & card | Every 2 weeks | Green wheelie bin | Keep paper/card clean and dry |
| Plastics, glass, cans & cartons | Every 2 weeks | Green recycling box | Empty and rinse containers |
| Garden waste | 24 fortnightly collections per subscription | Subscription garden bin | Check subscription and personalised schedule |
Sutton houses do not simply have one generic “recycling bin week”. Check whether paper/card or plastics-glass-cans-cartons is due.
The official leaflet contains a route example. Your property’s current checker result remains the better answer for actual 2026 dates.
Why Your Sutton Bin Day May Be Different in 2026
From 29 September 2025, Sutton revised collection routes under its newer Veolia waste contract. Some properties received a new collection day and/or changed recycling week.
Your weekday may have moved
Delete old phone reminders if the council gave your property a different day.
Your recycling rota may have changed
The weekday can stay the same while the material due that week changes.
Collections can arrive apart
Different waste streams now use dedicated vehicles, so one container may be emptied hours before another.
Do not reuse blindly
A pre-change wall calendar or screenshot can cause both wrong-day and wrong-stream mistakes.
If one Sutton vehicle has visited but another container remains, do not immediately assume it was missed. Different materials can be collected at different times.
Sutton Bin Collection Times Tomorrow: Use the 6am Rule
If your Sutton bin collection is tomorrow, the useful time is not the lorry’s usual arrival time. Your containers should be ready before 6am.
Check tomorrow’s stream
Confirm both the date and material from the current property checker.
Use the correct frontage
Place bins, boxes and caddies at the front boundary, close to the pavement but preferably not on it.
Bring containers back promptly
If you had to use pavement space, remove containers as soon as possible to avoid obstruction.
House presentation checklist
- Use the named street frontage for the address.
- Do not expect a normal collection from the rear or side of the property.
- Make containers easy to see from the road.
- Close the wheelie-bin lid.
- Face the wheelie-bin handle towards the road.
- Leave the food-caddy handle in the locked position.
- Do not use ordinary plastic bags inside the food caddy.
Sutton Bin Collection Missed Today: Exact Reporting Steps
If your Sutton bin collection was missed today, wait until after 6pm. Current Sutton guidance says missed bins, boxes or caddies must be reported within two working days.
Check before reporting
- Confirm it was actually due today.
- Confirm the exact waste stream.
- Make sure it was out before 6am.
- Check whether other streams are still awaiting a separate vehicle.
- Check the container was visible and accessible.
- Check it was not too heavy.
- Check the waste was sorted correctly.
Report and leave it available
- Use Sutton’s official missed-collection service.
- Select the correct bin, box or caddy.
- Report within two working days.
- Leave the container at the front of the property.
- Keep access clear for the return crew.
Sutton says it will arrange a return collection within two working days for a valid missed report.
The container was not out before 6am, contained incorrect waste or was too heavy for the crew to collect.
Official Sutton Recycling PDF: What Residents Actually Need
Sutton’s official four-page recycling leaflet contains useful practical guidance, but its sample timetable should not be treated as a universal Sutton 2026 calendar.
Useful PDF details converted into actions
Separate vehicle
Food waste may be collected separately from your other containers, so do not bring the food caddy back simply because another vehicle has already visited.
Clean, dry and flattened
Flatten cardboard and keep paper/card clean and dry before presenting it for recycling.
Empty and rinse
Rinse food and drink containers before placing them in the relevant recycling stream.
Remove flexible film
Film lids from plastic pots, tubs and trays belong with rubbish rather than the rigid-container recycling stream.
The leaflet displays a route-specific example and tells residents to use Sutton’s “Check your bin collection days” tool to view and download the personalised calendar for their own property.

Sutton Bin Collection Bank Holiday Checks
Do not assume every bank holiday creates a one-day shift. The safest rule is to use the current Sutton property calendar and any specific council notice for the affected period.
Check your address
Use the live collection checker rather than applying another council’s bank-holiday pattern.
Use the shown date
If Sutton’s current property result keeps the normal day, present the bins before 6am as usual.
Special schedule
Christmas and New Year have specifically published revised dates and should be checked separately.
Recheck the official collection page close to the date. Do not publish a guessed blanket delay simply because it is a public holiday.
Sutton Christmas Collection Dates: January 2026 Reference
The official Sutton leaflet published these Christmas 2025 to January 2026 revised dates for the majority of households. They are historical reference only and must not be reused for Christmas 2026.

The leaflet continued to require containers to be out by 6am.
Real Christmas tree rules from the official leaflet
- Remove decorations and pots.
- Place the tree close to the front boundary.
- Make it visible to collection crews.
- Do not block the pavement.
- Flat residents should leave it outside the bin-store area without blocking access.
- Kimpton Park Way is another composting route.
Sutton’s December 2026/New Year 2027 schedule was not published in the official sources checked for this refresh. Use the council’s new festive notice when available.
Why Was My Sutton Bin, Box or Caddy Left Behind?
Many apparent missed collections are presentation or contamination problems.
Sutton Bin Collections for Flats with Shared Bins
Communal flats can have a very different service from standard houses, so house frequencies should not be copied automatically.
Weekly
Communal food waste is normally collected every week.
Weekly
Shared-bin properties can receive weekly paper/card collection.
Weekly
Plastics, glass, cans and cartons are listed as weekly for shared-bin flats.
Weekly
General non-recyclable waste is also normally weekly for communal shared-bin properties.
If access keys or codes change, ask the managing agent to update Sutton Council. Crews may be unable to collect if the secure store cannot be opened.
New or replacement communal bins are normally handled by the managing agent, landlord, housing officer or residents’ association rather than an individual resident’s normal bin-order form.
Sutton Flats Above Shops: Different Collection Times
Flats above shops use a specialised bag service because many properties do not have space for standard wheelie bins.
One weekday + one weekend collection
This service is more frequent because residents often have limited storage space.
Time-banded presentation
Unlike standard houses, bags are put out between 6pm and 8pm on the collection day.
Use the correct colour
Other bags can be treated as fly-tipping rather than a valid collection presentation.
Bag colours
Recycling
Use for accepted paper, cardboard, cans, tins, glass, cartons and recyclable rigid plastic containers.
General waste
Use for non-recyclable rubbish and other accepted general waste.
Sutton says a further trial phase is scheduled from the week commencing 24 August 2026, bringing weekly food-waste access to another group of flats above shops.
Do not assume every flat above a shop already has food waste. Participating addresses receive caddies/liners and use shared outdoor food-waste bins.
Sutton Garden Waste Collection 2026
Sutton’s garden-waste service is optional and paid. The current annual fee is £99 per bin.
Annual fee per bin
You can subscribe for more than one garden-waste bin if needed.
Collections per subscription
The service provides 24 fortnightly collections across the subscription year.
Not automatic
Renew within the 30 days before the current subscription expires.
Planned festive pause
The current service page lists a four-week break in January 2027 before collections recommence in February.
Joining the service does not make every Sutton brown-lidded garden bin due on the same date. Check the property schedule.
Sutton Replacement Bin Charges from April 2026
Sutton introduced administration/delivery charges for several new and replacement household containers from April 2026.
| Container | Current charge |
|---|---|
| New/replacement recycling box | £5 |
| Premium food caddy | £15 |
| 240L recycling wheelie bin | £15 |
| 360L larger recycling bin | £30 |
| 140L general-waste wheelie bin | £25 |
| 240L larger general-waste bin | £45 |
Containers still supplied free
- 23L outdoor food-waste caddy
- 7L kitchen food-waste caddy
- Garden-waste wheelie bin supplied with an active subscription
Sutton aims to complete household container requests within around 20 working days, although demand and stock can affect this.
Sutton says bagged general waste will not be collected at the kerb. Store it safely until the replacement arrives or use the Household Reuse and Recycling Centre where appropriate.
A replacement can be free when the council/contractor records the incident. If it was not recorded, Sutton asks for supporting evidence such as photos or video when making a claim.

Sutton households can book a free doorstep collection for eligible small electricals, batteries, clothes, textiles and shoes.
Maximum per booking
Sutton defines item quantities for batteries, electricals and textiles.
Booking window
Available slots can be booked within the next eight weeks.
Collection window
Items must be outside by 6am and can be collected up to 6pm.
Only listed items
Crews only take items included in the booking.
Electrical size check
Examples accepted
Small appliances such as kettles, toasters, irons, phones, laptops, routers, hairdryers and some vapes can qualify.
Examples too large / unsuitable
Televisions, large white goods, microwaves, desktop computers and full-size vacuum cleaners use another disposal route.
Put booked items next to the communal bin-store area, not inside it. If an access code/key is required, supply it during booking.
Sutton Bulky Waste Collection: Prices and Micro Steps
Large furniture and appliances use Sutton’s paid bulky-waste booking rather than the normal bin service.
| Booking size | Standard items | POPs upholstered seating |
|---|---|---|
| 1–3 items | £49 | £74 |
| 4–6 items | £81.80 | £122.70 |
List every item before paying
You cannot simply add extra items to a paid booking later.
Choose an available date
Sutton currently offers available slots within the next eight weeks.
Move items outside before 6am
Items must be empty, on ground level, visible and accessible from the road.
Keep cars out of the access route
A parked vehicle between the road and item can cause the collection to fail.
Wait until after 6pm before treating the booking as missed
The booked collection window runs from 6am to 6pm.
Sutton states bulky-waste bookings are non-refundable, including when collection fails because the booking conditions were not met.
Every booked item must be capable of being carried by two people or fewer.
Assisted Sutton Bin Collections
Residents who cannot move their containers and have nobody else in the household able to help may qualify for temporary or long-term assistance.
Recovery or short-term need
Assistance can be considered while recovering from an operation or similar temporary situation.
Permanent disability
An agreed accessible collection location can be arranged where eligibility is confirmed.
Application contact target
Sutton says someone should contact an applicant within ten working days.
Important service conditions
- Bins should normally be permanently stored at the front.
- Crews will not collect from behind gates or from side/rear locations.
- More than two steps can make the service unsuitable.
- Parked vehicles must not block access.
- Label containers with the house number.
- You remain responsible for reporting a missed assisted collection.
- The service does not cover communal properties or flats-above-shops bag collections.
Kimpton Park Way Recycling Centre: Booking and Opening Times

Cars, vans and other booked vehicle visits require a valid appointment.
Advance booking window
Appointments can be made up to 14 days ahead, with new slots released daily.
Annual fair-use limit
Sutton residents can make up to 24 booked visits between January and December.
No booking required
Residents arriving on foot or bicycle can visit without a booking but should bring ID.
Normal opening hours
| Visitor type | Hours |
|---|---|
| Cars, pedestrians, bicycles | Monday–Saturday 9am–5pm; Sunday 9am–2pm |
| Vans / large vehicles | Monday–Friday 9am–4pm; Saturday 9am–12:30pm |
| Other bank holidays | Cars normally 9am–5pm; vans/large vehicles have no bank-holiday access |
Sutton may ask for ID and proof of address at the gate. Check accepted materials and vehicle rules before loading the car.
Sutton Houses with No Front Garden or Unsafe Bin Access
Some Sutton homes use a kerbside bag service because normal wheelie-bin storage or movement is unsuitable.
Red-stripe rubbish bags
Eligible properties receive 52 general-waste bags in the annual allocation.
Blue-stripe recycling bags
Mixed recycling uses 26 blue-stripe bags.
Clear paper/card bags
Paper and card use a separate allocation of 26 clear recycling bags.
Typical reasons include no front garden/driveway to store wheelie bins or multiple steps that make moving wheeled containers unsafe.
