Independent Cheshire East household waste guide — built around resident actions, not long council-page summaries.
Check your address first, then follow the right bin, caddy or report route
A Cheshire East bin collection answer is property-specific. Use the official calendar first, then match the result to black waste, silver recycling, subscribed garden waste or the new weekly food-waste service.
The important 2026 change is not just a new caddy: when food collections start at your address, the black-bin cycle changes to every three weeks and your usual collection day may move.
What should you do right now?

28 AUG 2026
Food-waste transition: outdoor 23-litre caddies are being delivered before collections begin. Receiving one is not your start signal. Cheshire East says the updated online calendar will show the food-waste start date and any new collection day by mid-September.
Independent guide: BinCollectionGuide.org does not run Cheshire East collections or access council accounts. Use the council links below for property results, reports, payments and bookings.

How to check your Cheshire East bin collection day
Open the official collection calendar
Open Cheshire East Council’s online collection calendar.
Enter the full postcode
Enter the complete postcode for the property.
Select the exact address
Choose the correct house, flat, building or named property from the results.
Read each collection line separately
Record the black bin, silver recycling bin, subscribed garden bin and food waste dates separately.
Update your reminder when the 2026 change reaches you
Recheck the calendar when the food waste start date appears because the collection day and black bin cycle may change.
Better reminder: “SILVER — Tuesday — out by 6.30am” is safer than saving only “bins Tuesday”.
Next action: write down the next date for each stream before closing the council page.
After opening the collection checker, do this
Search postcode
Type the complete postcode rather than just the town or first half.
Choose your property
Pick the exact house number, flat or property name from the returned list.
Read all collection rows
Look for separate dates for black, silver, garden and food-waste services.
If the date is still the old pattern
Your Autumn 2026 change may not be live yet. Keep following the date shown.
If a food-waste start date appears
Save it. That is the signal to start presenting the outdoor caddy and to use the new black-bin cycle.
If your normal weekday changes
Delete the old repeating reminder immediately and create a new one from the live result.
If your address does not look right
Do not choose a neighbour or similar property. Call Waste and Recycling on 0300 123 5011 for help.
Do not screenshot only one line: capture all active waste streams because their cycles differ.
Has your property changed to the new collection system yet?
Keep following the current black/silver household timetable.
Your weekly food service is becoming active and your black-bin cycle moves to every three weeks.
Black general waste
Separate food first so the black bin lasts between collections.
Silver recycling
Clean, dry and loose recycling continues fortnightly.
Food waste
Outdoor caddy collection every week once your address starts.
Garden waste
Continues fortnightly outside the winter pause.
Bag-collection exception: homes already receiving bagged general-waste collections because of space restrictions remain on fortnightly general waste after the food-waste change.
Best test: ignore social-media dates and use the exact property calendar as the switch-over signal.
Your outdoor food caddy arrived — what next?
Read + label it
Read the leaflet, attach the supplied lid sticker and write your address in the space provided.
Keep it at home
Do not present it just because it has been delivered.
Edge by 6.30am
Present the outdoor caddy with its handle upright.
Outdoor caddy
This is the container collection crews empty.
Indoor kitchen caddy
Use a kitchen caddy or another container indoors, then transfer food to the outdoor caddy. Do not put the indoor caddy out.
Liner
You do not need one. If you use one, use a fully compostable plant-based or paper liner certified to EN 13432.
Clean it
Keep the lid closed, wash with warm soapy water and store in a cool shaded position where possible.
Put the handle back, close the lid flat, then move the handle to the front to lock it.
Leave the handle upright so crews can open and empty it.
Current council guidance says extra food-waste caddies cannot be requested.
On your garden-bin week, you can choose the subscribed garden bin or the outdoor food caddy for food waste.
Weekly routine: food out of black bin → outdoor caddy → edge of property → handle upright → 6.30am.

Unsure item? Search the council’s “what waste goes where” tool before putting it in a full bin.
Your bin is still full — what should you do?
The crew may still be working. Do not report yet.
If not, the council will normally wait for the next scheduled collection.
An overfilled bin cannot be safely attached to the vehicle.
The live reporting system may already contain the crew’s rejection reason.
Reduce the weight before the next eligible collection.
Wait until after 6pm
Wait until after 6pm on collection day because crews may still be working.
Check the collection requirements
Confirm the bin was at the collection point by 6.30am, the lid closed, the contents were correct and access was clear.
Open the missed-bin form
Use the official form within two working days of the scheduled collection.
Read the crew status shown in the form
The form can display a reason recorded by the collection crew, such as wrong contents or access problems.
Submit one bin per report
Send a separate report for each missed container and follow any return-collection instruction shown.
After reporting: Cheshire East aims to return as quickly as possible and may take up to five working days. Leave the bin somewhere safe if the council instructs you to keep it out.
If no return happens before your next scheduled collection: current guidance allows up to three standard-sized bags beside the black bin or silver recycling bin for that next collection.
Do not submit blindly: the form can tell you why the crew could not empty the bin.
How to subscribe to Cheshire East garden waste without getting stuck
Open the garden subscription page
Use the official garden-waste subscription service.
Create or sign in to the waste portal
This is the same portal used for recycling-centre bookings. It is not your normal Council Tax account.
Register the property
Add the Cheshire East address before trying to buy the subscription.
Select the number of garden bins
Each garden bin you want emptied needs its own paid subscription.
Check benefit discount before paying
If eligible, claim the 25% reduction during the subscription process.
Attach the subscription sticker
Put the current sticker on the handle side of the garden bin.
Per subscribed garden bin.
For qualifying households.
Normally on the usual recycling week.
Mid-Dec to Mid-Jan
No garden-bin collection during the seasonal break.
Neighbour option: two households can share one subscribed garden bin if one resident is the named subscriber and both agree how the fee is handled.
Joining late? The subscription still ends in December and there is no reduced late-year price.
Before presentation: paid subscription + correct sticker + correct contents + edge of property by 6.30am.
What to do while waiting for a new or replacement bin
Current standard supply/delivery charge.
Current smaller-bin charge.
Available only where additional general-waste criteria are met.
The council says new bins can take up to this long to arrive.
Current guidance allows up to three tied black bags on collection day while the ordered bin is pending.
Use up to three untied white/clear bags or carrier bags for recycling while waiting.
Do not leave garden waste out in bags for collection.
Lost bin: the first lost/stolen replacement can be free, but additional replacement requests within the next three years can be charged.
Before ordering: check household size, medical-waste need and benefit eligibility because these can affect the route or charge.
Your food-waste setup may look different from a house
1–2 flats
The council may provide individual outdoor food caddies where the building layout allows it.
3+ flats
These properties will usually receive a shared 140-litre food-waste wheelie bin in the normal bin-storage area.
Communal store
Check who is responsible for access on collection day — resident, caretaker, landlord or managing agent.
Garden subscription
For communal garden bins, the housing provider or managing agent may need to arrange the subscription.
Before reporting a miss: confirm the communal bin was accessible, correctly presented and actually registered for the service.
Assisted collection: when Cheshire East can move the bin for you
You may qualify if
You have difficulty moving your bins and nobody in your household, family or neighbours can help.
Evidence may be requested
The council can ask for proof that the eligibility conditions apply.
When support starts
If approved, it can start on the next collection day as long as you did not apply on that same day.
New food caddy
If you already receive assisted collections, the arrangement continues for the new outdoor food-waste caddy.
Use this route when: the problem is physically getting the container to the collection point.
What to do after opening the Cheshire East recycling-centre booking page
Register or sign in to the waste portal
If you already have a garden-waste portal account, use the same email and password.
Click “Register my property”
If you do not do this, the recycling-centre booking option may not appear.
Find “Recycling centre visit”
Choose the “Book recycling centre” option.
Select site, date and available time
Bookings can currently be made up to 30 days ahead.
Enter the vehicle registration correctly
Use the registration of the vehicle that will actually arrive at the site.
Save the confirmation code
You need the booking confirmation when you arrive.
Arrival rule: do not arrive more than 20 minutes early. Current booking guidance says late arrivals will not be admitted.
Before leaving home: confirmation code + correct vehicle + accepted waste + permit if your vehicle requires one.
Does your vehicle need a household-waste permit?
The household-waste vehicle permit is normally not required.
A free household-waste permit is required.
A household-waste permit is required even when the load is your own domestic waste.
This also falls within the permit scheme.
For eligible household waste.
Current permit period.
Maximum visits per permit.
Bring proof of address. The permit holder must live at the address the household waste comes from. Trade, landlord or paid waste-removal loads are not accepted under the household permit.
Permit test: vehicle type first, then booking requirement, then site acceptance.
Mobile recycling centres: what the 28 August update means
Initial areas
Poynton, Wilmslow, Middlewich, Congleton and Macclesfield are named in the launch update.
Audlem
The council says an Audlem location is expected once final arrangements are complete.
Booking required
Book through the Cheshire East waste portal before visiting.
No vans
Mobile sites accept cars and booked foot/bicycle visits, but not vans or commercial vehicles.
Check the live booking calendar before travel. The council’s mobile-HWRC information pages have been updating as the service moves into launch.
Useful for: smaller domestic loads that fit in a car and residents who want a closer local option.
Need to get rid of a sofa, mattress or large appliance?
As of 28 August 2026, Cheshire East says existing bookings will be honoured and it is working to restart new bulky collections later in September.
Reusable?
Try a suitable reuse or charity route before paying or transporting it.
Fits in your car?
Check whether an HWRC or booked mobile HWRC can accept it.
Already booked?
The current suspension notice says existing bulky bookings will still be honoured.
Need a future collection?
Recheck the official bulky-waste page in September for reopening information.
Do not leave furniture beside household bins. A temporary council booking suspension does not create a kerbside collection route.
Current decision: reuse → HWRC/mobile HWRC if accepted → recheck bulky service later in September.

Cheshire East bin collection FAQs
How do I check my Cheshire East bin collection date?
Open Cheshire East Council’s online collection calendar, enter the full postcode and choose the exact property. Save each waste stream and date separately. Recheck the calendar when your Autumn 2026 food-waste start date appears because your collection day may change.
What changes to Cheshire East bin collections in Autumn 2026?
Weekly food-waste collections start in phases and black general-waste bins move to a three-week cycle. Silver recycling remains every two weeks, and subscribed garden bins remain every two weeks outside the winter pause.
I have received my food caddy. Should I put it out now?
No. Receiving the 23-litre outdoor caddy does not mean your collection has started. Attach the information sticker, write your address on it and wait until the online calendar shows your food-waste start date.
What time should I put Cheshire East bins and the outdoor food caddy out?
Put the correct bin or outdoor food-waste caddy at the edge of the property by 6.30am on the scheduled collection day. For the food caddy, leave the handle upright so the crew can empty it.
When can I report a missed Cheshire East bin?
Wait until after 6pm on collection day, then report an eligible missed collection within two working days. Submit a separate report for each missed container.
What happens after I submit a missed-bin report?
The council aims to return as quickly as possible and may take up to five working days. Leave the bin where it is safe to do so if instructed. If the council cannot return before the next scheduled collection, current guidance allows up to three standard-sized bags beside the black or silver bin on that next collection.
How much is Cheshire East garden waste in 2026?
The 2026 garden-waste subscription is £69 per bin for the January-to-December service. A 25% reduction to £51.75 is available for residents receiving qualifying benefits. The bin is normally collected every two weeks, with no collection between mid-December and mid-January.
Do I need to book a Cheshire East household waste recycling centre?
For standard Cheshire East HWRCs, the current booking requirement applies at peak times, including weekends and bank holidays. Bookings can be made up to 30 days in advance. Always check the live booking page before travelling.
Do vans need a permit at Cheshire East recycling centres?
Yes. A van, pickup, commercial-type 4×4 or trailer between 1.5 and 3.5 metres internal length needs a household waste permit. The permit is free, valid for six months and allows up to six visits.
Is the Cheshire East bulky-waste collection service open now?
As of 28 August 2026, new bulky-waste collections are temporarily suspended. The council says existing bookings will be honoured and it is working to restart the service later in September.
